community together and giving back.”
The annual Wellesley Square Holiday Stroll will take place on Sunday, December 6, from noon to 6 p.m. and this year’s event looks to be bigger and better than ever.
The day promises to be a very festive event and Wendrow said it’s nice to see kids and their families enjoying the stroll with Frosty, Rudolph and Santa. There will also be sleigh rides and photos with Santa.

With more and more options each year in terms of where you can go to shop, it’s become increasingly more difficult to make the decision as to where to go. Sure, the big box retailers have their flashy commercials, and the online retailers make it convenient because you don’t even need to leave your house to find what you want, but why not shop right here in Wellesley? There are plenty of options in various parts of towns and there are a number of benefits to shopping locally. “Consumers who shop locally get to know the local retailers better and consequently should get a better level of customer service,” said Charlie Bradford, owner of TerrazzaChurchSquare. “The more they shop local, the stronger the retail community is. A strong retail community attracts better retailers, restaurants and service providers.” Another great thing about shopping locally, especially during the busy holiday season, is that local shops and restaurants also contribute right back to the community. For one, local shops and restaurants pay taxes that stay
right here in the community. Also, many of the local business owners live in town so they’re very vested in the community. “These stores and shops and restaurants not only provide wonderful products and service, but they also provide jobs and add to the tax base here in town as well as create an environment that everyone in town can be proud of,” said Mike Covino, owner of Bocado. Local businesses also get involved in the community, whether they give support to organizations like the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts or sponsor a youth hockey team. By supporting local businesses you essentially support

yourself as the local businesses recirculate money back into the town through employing other residents, taxes and supporting other local businesses, among other ways. The bottom line is that shopping local helps everyone in town. “It is extremely important to support your local businesses to keep the community strong and vibrant,” said Demian Wendrow, owner of London Harness and President of the Wellesley Square Merchants Association. “Now, more than ever since there is such major competition online. .Shop, dine and explore Wellesley Square and don’t forget to shop small, shop local.”

red snowflake on their door indicating that they are participating in the hunt. Inside those stores will be a white snowflake and people participating will have to go to 30 stores. There will be three winners. Each merchant has given a $25 gift card or a gift basket with a value of $25 and the total winnings is equal to about $1,000. The Wellesley Women Artisans and the Merchants’ Association are also featuring the ART WALK, where 27 local artists will set up in local retail stores and sell their work. There will also be 11 art intensive artists from Wellesley High School. A portion of the proceeds from this program will
go to Parents Supporting Art Students in Wellesley. (See ART WALK map). There will also be free parking, something that will last until December 27. The event will close with a holiday tree lighting from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. There will be carolers from Wellesley High and hot chocolate and treats for everyone to enjoy. “This brings everyone together,” Wendrow said. “It makes the town strong. It makes the town vibrant.” Everyone is invited, and Wendrow hopes even more people will come out and celebrate the kick off of the holiday season. It is the fourth year they have done the tree lighting.
