ESSENTIAL SKILLS CHALLENGE

ESSENTIAL SKILLS TIP SHEET

200 STICK DRAGS

Set feet apart (shoulder width apart)

Transfer weight from left to right

Focus on technique rather than speed

Try to keep stick on the ball the whole time - no sound when moving side to side

200

‘1,2,3,4’ STICK DRAGS

Plant the left foot first - before rolling hook over the ball to reverse position

Move the balls as per the numbers indicated 1,2,3 & 4

Continue to Transfer weight to back to each foot as you change direction

Four drags in a row

200 ‘ABC’ STICK DRAGS

Set feet apart (shoulder width apart - facing forwards)

Start ball at first white triangle (A)

Move ball to black triangle (B)

Shift feet sideways (turn right, so you are facing to the right of original position

Then move ball to final white triangle (C)

Reverse order back to B, then to A. This counts as two drags

200 PUSH PASSES

Set feet apart (shoulder width apart - left foot in front of right)

Hands apart (left hand at top and right hand where the grip meets paint of stick)

Connect stick hook to the ball

Transfer weight from right foot (back foot) to the front foot (left)

while pushing the ball in a forward direction to player or wall

Reduce the amount of sound when you push. If you hear a stick

sound as you push, the stick was not connected to the ball when pushing the ball

Use your legs as much as arms to push the ball

200 STICK TRAPS

Set feet apart (shoulder width apart - left foot in front of right)

Hands apart (left hand at top and right hand where the grip meets the paint of stick)

Stay in a low position for strength

Be prepared to adjust position if the ball does not come towards your right foot

When receiving the ball, soften your hands, so the ball stays as close to the stick after impact. If ball bounces away from you, don’t hold the stick as tight

Learn to receive while moving to a new position. This may mean touching the ball to an area you want to go

Always be mobile when receiving and use your eyes to look around you before the balls gets to you. This will help you pre-scan during games and know where your next pass is
