GOLDEN JUBILEE SOUVENIR

TRIBUTE TO LATE Dr. K.C.G. VERGHESE

The popular Chinese proverb states, “If you are planning for a year, sow rice, if you are planning for a decade, plant trees, if you are planning for a lifetime, educate people.” This sums up the entire philosophy of the time and life of Dr. K. C. G., a visionary, who built the entire edifice of the Hindustan Group of Institutions. His profound qualities of enthusiasm, perseverance, vision and live networking created a springboard for many aspirants to mould their careers.
Dr. K. C. G. Verghese, though born in an ordinary middle class family in Kerala, by dint of his hard work rose to one of the top-ranking educationists.
He held on to his dreams and converted them into reality. His relentless work drove him to success. He was the pioneer to promote technical education in our country. He helped the students explore their own potential. He made them realize that education, hard work and commitment to the nation are the only means to get themselves employable and overcome poverty.
He firmly believed, “Every human being has infinite potential. The role of an educator is to bring out the best in every individual and that of an educational institution is to provide the best facilities and the right ambience.” The Hindustan Group of Institutions caters to over 15000 students. It has an amazing staff strength of almost 3000 and has a scintillating alumni of over 80,000 students. These are the testimonies of his deep-rooted desire to fulfill his aspirations. He was a true patriot and he always advised the youngsters to serve their own country.
His penchant for ‘Wheels and Wings’ made him adventurous all through his life and his indomitable spirit always rose to the occasion and facilitated him to lead from the front. His personality had all the nuances of a great human being. He valued friendship and showed great respect, love and concern to his teachers, his family members and parents in equal measure.
The best tribute we can ever offer this Architect of the Hindustan Group of Institutions could be to emulate his ideals and work toward realizing his dreams. Let his vision, “TO MAKE EVERY MAN A SUCCESS AND NO MAN A FAILURE ,” inspire us to follow in his footsteps. God chose his company on Valentine’s day. This adorable and affable human being will be remembered by all of us on this day, year after year as V-Day, the Verghese Day.

MESSAGES

Dr. Mrs. ELIZABETH VERGHESE Chairperson, Hindustan Group of Institutions

A country’s pride is directly dependent on the calibre of its educational institution which decides the future of the nation’s socio economic progress. 50 years of glorious service rendered by Hindustan Group of Institutions (HGI) in redrawing the educational landscape of the country has been really remarkable.
The Late Founder Chairman, Dr. K.C.G. Verghese felt that the education is the only medium to transform our youngsters and uplift the society thereby contributing to the progress of our nation. He believed that the role of the institution is to impart quality and holistic education to students. His name is imprinted as a pioneer to introduce technical education and training in 1960’s and privatisation of Aviation and Automobile industries. He established the first institution Hindustan Engineering Training Centre at Guindy, Chennai in a humble manner. His passion to build institutions of repute motivated him to establish several citadels of learning imparting Engineering, Management, Aviation, Arts & Science under the banner of Hindustan Group of Institutions catering to the students across the nation and overseas. HGI continues to tread the path laid by the Founder Chairman, Late Dr. KCG Verghese complying with his profound vision, “To Make Every Man a Success and No Man a Failure”.
This Golden Jubilee Year has been ingrained in the annals of the HGI, with innumerable academic and non-academic activities filled with excellence in every event. The Golden Jubilee celebrations kick started with the Thanksgiving Service in all humility and sincerity. The entire group witnessed a galaxy of events with involvement of staff and students. Dr. KCG Verghese Excellence Awards function was the highlight of the Golden Jubilee Year, wherein 50 luminaries who excelled in respective fields were honoured.
HGI has attained this milestone and I personally owe this accomplishment to the dedicated team of faculty and students. We don’t compromise on quality of education, and this has ensured success in all our endeavours.
I would like to quote G.K. Chesterton, “Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another”. HGI focuses on training students in life skills and also imparting value education and it forms an important part in the curriculum for the holistic development of the individual. It is worth mentioning that our Alumni spans across the world and are placed in reputed organisations holding the flagship of Alma Mater fluttering high with pride. I am happy to note that a Global reunion, Convergence 2017, of our Alumni has been organized as part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations.
I congratulate the editorial team and a word of appreciation for those who have contributed the congratulatory messages in this 50 years’ souvenir edition.

Dr.
ANAND JACOB VERGHESE Director & Chief Executive Officer
Hindustan
Group of Institutions (HGI)

On this momentous occasion of the Golden Jubilee of HGI, I am overwhelmed to realize the successful path tread for five decades, which indeed is a great accomplishment. I sincerely owe this success to the assiduous efforts of the entire Hindustan fraternity.
Nelson Mandela has quoted that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. I am proud that Hindustan Group of Institutions has instilled this thought in the minds of the students who have entered the portals of this prestigious citadel of learning. For 50 years HGI has been rendering yeoman services to multitude of students across the nation and the world. History has established that education is one of the fundamental needs of human being. It is vital for the mankind and the basis for the development of society. Providing quality education has been the focus of HGI throughout the span of fifty years. Constant update of curriculum, keeping pace with the digitalized world and the requirements of the work force, has been the focus by the academicians of this institution.
The Late Founder Chairman, Dr. KCG Verghese, a man of ideals and vision had indeed realized way back in the 60’s the need for providing quality education and thus resulted in the establishment of our first institute HETC and later rechristened Hindustan Institute of Engineering and Technology(HIET) in 1979. The institute is renowned for the Aeronautical and other engineering programmes. HGI has been progressing in leaps and bounds and it now encompasses, colleges, university, flight schools and International schools. The latest inclusion is the Hindustan International School and it is indeed a moment of pleasure to place on record that it is recognized as one of the premier International school in the state and also in the nation.
I am elated to meet scores of alumni who are proud to reminisce their Alma Mater and lend their hand to strengthen and develop the institution. Our alumni are indeed the ambassadors of our institute who catapult our nation into a higher orbit of development.
The success of HGI is attributed to the persistent efforts of the teaching, non-teaching staff, the stakeholders and
well-wishers who revolve around the progress of the institution providing necessary inputs and the management also embrace the invaluable recommendations to raise the standards at the zenith without any compensation on the quality of education provided. Here the students are not only inculcated with knowledge but the requisite skills to face the challenges in life.
Internationalization has been the forte of this education portal from its inception. Students from more than 40 countries enroll in various programmes. I am happy to state that all our institutions have achieved many National and International Accolades and Awards.
I congratulate the editorial team for going to great lengths to bring this publication. This historical document encompasses the 50 years’ accomplishments of HGI in its entirety.
God Bless All
Jai Hind!

THE MOST Rev. Dr. GEORGE ANTONYSAMY

I am happy to know that Hindustan Group of Institutions is celebrating the Golden Jubilee of its establishment this year. Democratization of Education is one of the chief contributions of Christianity to India. Especially during the times when education remained the exclusive privilege of the elite upper class. Christian missionaries and institutions have sought to throw open the doors of education to the masses, including the outcast, underprivileged and women.
Late Dr. K.C.G Verghese, was a memorable pioneer who carried on this spirit of the missionaries in his ministry of education. This is evident in his vision “To Make Every Man a Success and No Man a Failure”.
Following his vision, Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese has labored to pursue the path of true Christian Steering Hindustan Group of Institutions. Since 1966, the institutions have provided quality education and a commendable ambience to equip students to meet the challenges of the modem world. I sincerely acknowledge and appreciate the inspirational work that you have carried out in the past 50 years and it is my sincere prayer that you will be strengthened to pursue the path of truth witnessing in the years to come. I convey my felicitations and prayers to the management, staff, parents, collaborators and benefactors of the various institutions. May God bless you all!
With prayerful wishes.

I am extremely delighted to know that the Hindustan Group of Institutions, Chennai, one of the premier group of Higher Educational Institutions in the country is celebrating its ‘Golden Jubilee’ anniversary and bringing out a Golden Jubilee Souvenir on this happy occasion.
I personally knew, Dr. K.C.G. Verghese, the Founder & Chairman as a great visionary and leading Educationist who had immense faith in the youth of this country and strongly believed that quality education especially technical skill empowerment will transform their lives whereby the country will achieve social progress and economic development. Way back in 1960’s Dr. K.C.G. Verghese had realised the need for imparting skill training to make our youth employable for the growth of the nation. He always emphasised on creating ‘job providers’ rather than ‘job seekers’. He started Hindustan Institute of Engineering & Technology offering non formal technical education & training, helping scores of youngsters to make a living who could not have otherwise got in to any formal secondary / tertiary education eco system.
The Hindustan Group of Institutions has now grown from this humble beginning as a training institute to a premium group of Educational Institutions offering quality education from pre-school to Ph.D consisting of several institutions including Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science, one of the top notch Teaching & Research institution in the country.
I extend my warmest wishes to the Management, Staff, Students and Alumni of Hindustan Group of Institutions on this auspicious occasion of celebrating your success & accomplishments over the past 50 years. I am sure that Hindustan Group of Institutions will continue to maintain its quality & excellence and commitment to nation with great distinction in the years to come.
With best wishes

Prof. S. N. HEGDE
FORMER VICE CHANCELLOR
UNIVERSITY OF MYSORE

It is heartening to learn that a distinctive vision and pioneering efforts of late Dr. K.C.G. Verghese have been transformed into a group of institutions of quality. The metamorphosis has today culminated in the form of a private university – the Hindustan University.
Growth of progressive educational institutions never ceases. Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and Stanford Universities, in spite of an illustrious history of several centuries, are still growing and embarking upon new programs and initiatives.
I found the management of HGI very dynamic, responsive and quality conscious. If the drive and the pace of development are sustained zealously, I am sure HGI will emerge as a leader in the education sector and earn a brand name for itself.
Let the Golden Jubilee Celebrations herald a new pathway of planning and progress.

Dr. A. S. KIRAN KUMAR FORMER CHAIRMAN
INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANISATION (ISRO)

I am glad to note that the Hindustan Group of Institutions (HGI) is celebrating its Golden Jubilee during this year (2016-17) and bringing out this souvenir.Education plays a vital role in the progress of an individual, society and country. Providing quality education to our children in primary, secondary or higher education sectors has been a priority for the government of India. Space technology has immense potential to address this area. In fact, ISRO has been taking initiatives for enabling the government and other stake—holders to take education to all parts of the country, more particularly to the difficult and inaccessible areas. Several programmes like Satellite Instructional Television Experiment (SITE), Satellite Telecommunication Experiments Project (STEP), Training and development communication channel (TDCC) and Jhabua Developmental Communication Programme (JDCP) were run in the past to promote satellite based education in the country. ISRO also deployed a satellite, Edusat, in 2004 that was exclusively meant for providing satellite-based education in the country. A large number of networks established that time under Edusat Utilization Programme are continuing to provide curriculum based education in primary, secondary and Higher education sectors. It is heartening to note that the HGI, through its seven education—institutes, has been performing yeoman services for the society and country for’ last five decades in various areas like schooling, Arts & Science, Engineering Technology, Aviation, etc.
The endeavours of the HGI in serving this noble cause are praiseworthy and I wish them all success in attaining many more achievements and milestones.

Education imparts knowledge; it sharpens the mind, it widens the vision, it moulds the character. it helps the individual to develop one’s wholesome personality. It lays the foundation for the overall development of the individual as well as the society and the country.
Realizing the importance of education Late. Shri. KCG Verghese, a philanthropist turned educationist, established the Hindustan Group of Institutions in the year 1966. The institution has gradually grown to eminence and is one of the most reputed institutions in India. I am also aware that it has got adequate infrastructure facilities and a team of academically qualified and devoted teaching staff. Besides a sense of discipline and a spirit of service is being inculcated in the minds and hearts of young students. As a result it has now emerged as one of the Top Ranking Institutions in the State.
I wish that the institution will grow further and establish similar institutions in other parts of the state so that the youngsters from all corners of the state will be benefitted.
I am glad to learn that the Hindustan Group of Institution is celebrating its Golden Jubilee during the year (2016-17). I wish the celebration a grand success and a bright future in the coming years too.
