The 15th Convocation Ceremony was held on 14 September 2024 at the Bay Rang Campus. The Chief Guest for the Ceremony was Sir Andre Konstantin Geim, Regius Professor and Royal Society Research Professor, University of Manchester, U. K. and Nobel Prize Awardee (Physics). The Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) was presented to Dr. S. Nambi Narayanan, Indian Aerospace Scientist, Padma Bhushan Awardee, and Dr. P. Veeramuthuvel, Project Director of Chandrayaan 3, ISRO, Government of India. The Ceremony was graced by Madam Founder Chancellor, Dr. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Verghese; Hon’ble Chancellor, Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese; Dr. Ashok George Verghese, Pro Chancellor; Dr. Aby Sam, Executive Director; Mr. Enid Verghese Jacob, Deputy Director; Col. (Hon.) Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Vice Chancellor; Dr. R. W. During the Ceremony, a total of 1598 graduates received their degrees. Sixty-nine rank holders were honoured with cash prizes and medals for their academic proficiency. In addition to this, three graduates received special awards for their exemplary performance in academics, co and extra-curricular, and research.

PANEL DISCUSSION ON
“GRAPHENE APPLICATIONS IN AEROSPACE AND DEFENCE”




The discussion was held on 14 September 2024. The members of the Panel were Sir Andre Konstantin Geim, Nobel Prize Awardee- Physics (2010); Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Professor & Director of IIT Ropar (Moderator); Dr. P. K. Jain, Associate Director, Scientist G, ARCI, Hyderabad; and Dr. Indrajit Shown, Professor, Department of Chemistry, HITS. The discussion explored the revolutionary role of graphene and other two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials in shaping the future of multiple fields. Thus, the discussion provided insights on interdisciplinary research in the field on Physics. Material Science and Engineering.

The first copy was released by the Chancellor and received by Mr. Shockat Adam, Member of Parliament for Leicester South in the House of Commons, UK in the presence of Ambassadors, Deputy Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Consuls from the countries of Bahrain, Bangladesh, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras, The Gambia, Grenada, Kyrgyz Republic, Costa Rica, Jordan and Kazakhstan.


Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Chancellor was honoured with the Excellence in Education Award by the World Malayalee Council, London on 31 July 2024. Hindustan at the World Malayalee Council, London. The award is in recognition of his contributions to the field of education. The Chancellor was honoured by former UK MP and Cllr Stuart Collins, in the presence of Kerala Congress Committee President MP K Sudhakaran.

The IBM Innovation Centre for Education (ICE) Day 2024 was organized by the Department of Computer Science Engineering on 7-8 August 2024. The event commemorated the ten-year collaboration between HITS and IBM that has fostered innovation, academic excellence, and industry integration. The Chief Guests for the event were Mr. Hari Subramanian, Leader – Business Development and Academia Relations; Mr. Viqaruddin Surki, Delivery Head, IBM ICE; and Ms. Jayashree Padmanabhan, Regional Account Manager, ICE. The two-day event hosted competitions such as Poster Presentation, Intellithon, Project Presentation, and Ideathon. Also, a Panel Discussion on the topic "Adapting to Technological Advancements: AI and Cyber Security Job Market Trends" was held on 8 August 2024.
NATIONAL SPACE DAY

The National Space Day 2024 at HITS was celebrated to commemorate the success of Chandrayaan-3 mission, which accomplished safe and soft-landing of Vikram Lander at the ‘Shiv Shakti’ point and deployment of Pragyaan Rover on the lunar surface on 23 August 2023. The objective was to engage and inspire the youth of the nation towards space technology and its applications. The theme for the National Space Day-2024 was “Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga”. The Departments of Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering jointly organized a one-day Seminar on “India’s Space Saga” followed by competitions such as “Space Debate” & “Astronomy Quiz.” The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Krishnamurthy V, General Manager (Retd.), Mission Analysis Group, SDSC, SHAR, ISRO.

This event commemorated the Dr. Abul Kalam Memorial Day and the International Asteroid Day on 26 July 2024. The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. H. N. Bhagavan, Mission Director, Indian Space Research Organisation Satellite Centre, ISRO. The highlight of the event was the Intercollegiate Competitions such as Aircraft Investigation and Space Startup Challenges that hosted more than 200 participants. RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM 2024

The Department of Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering conducted a guest lecture on 23 July 2024. The resource person was Dr. Prafulla Kumar Jain, Director of Inspace, Department of Space, Government of Indiaand he delved on the topic “Indian Space Programme: Past, Present and Future.” The lecture witnessed the attendance of students from the Departments of Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronics.
The Centre of Research and Consultancy conducted the Research Colloquium 2024 on 29-30 August 2024. The Chief Guest and Guest of Honour were Dr. N. Subramanian, Head of the Incubation Centre at IGCAR, and Dr. V. Srinivasan, Senior Principal Scientist at CLRI, Chennai respectively. The event was formally inaugurated by Col. (Hon.) Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Vice Chancellor. The Colloquium brought together a diverse group of scholars, researchers, and
practitioners. A total of 213 participants were in attendance. The event featured 16 online presentations, showcasing cutting-edge research and innovative approaches across various disciplines. To recognize outstanding contributions, the Colloquium awarded Best Paper Awards across various departments, highlighting the exceptional research presented during the event.

The School of Planning Architecture and Design Excellence organised an Online Panel Discussion on “Communication Design – An Upcoming Career Opportunity” on 16 July 2024. The Panellists included Dr. Anil Sinha, Former Professor at NID, Ahmedabad and Director, GLS Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and Mr. Jonathan Mathew, Product Designer, Microsoft, Hyderabad. Mr. Siddharth Golchha, of B.Tech Aerospace has received the prestigious France Excellence 2024 Charpak Master Scholarship to pursue M. Sc. Mechanical Engineering with a specialisation on Energetics and Propulsion at École Centrale de Nantes (ECN), France. Mr. Golchha had already undergone the Twinning Programme at ECN.

Ms. Subashini of second-year B. Sc. Physical Education clinched the Gold Medal at the Uzbekistan World Cup Kickboxing 2024 held at Tashkent, Uzbekistan between 24-29 September 2024.She defeated her international opponents in the 75kg Light Contact Category.
INTERNATIONAL WTUN STUDENTS COMPETITION 2024




The HITS team, comprising of eight students from the Engineering Departments of Mechanical, CSE, ECE, IT and Aerospace led by Dr. M. Rajesh from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, secured the first position at the Precise Energy 2024 Engineering Project Olympiad held at the Russian Centre for Science and Culture, Chennai between 2-4 September 2024. The Olympiad was judged by esteemed professors from the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, a globally recognized institution with a distinguished history, boasting six Nobel laureates among its alumni and staff, including notable figures such as Nicolay Basov, Nikolay Semenov, Pavel Cherenkov, Igor Tamm, Andrey Sakharov, and Ilya Frank.
NASA APPRECIATES Mr. MAGASHWARAN



Mr. Magashwaran R, final year student of BCA has earned prestigious recognition from NASA, The United Nations (UNO) and Letter of appreciation from Bali Government and LG Electronics for uncovering critical security vulnerabilities within their systems. This remarkable accomplishment underscores not only his exceptional expertise in cybersecurity but also his commitment to contributing to global safety and the resilience of vital systems.

The Team Ice Breakers comprising of students third year CSE (AI & ML) – Mr. Yogeshwar C. M., Mr. Tharun Raju, Ms. Kanchana Krishna, and Mr Sachin Kumar clinched the first place at the 24-Hour IBM National Level Hackathon held between 18-20 September 2024 at Yenepoya University, Bangalore, Karnataka. The team was presented with medals, certificates and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-.
As a member of the World Technology Universities Network, four students, Ms. Aparajetha. K of final year Aerospace along with second-year Aerospace students – Mr. Vasudheva S. L., Ms. Ashna, Thomas, and Mr. Sharan Raaj. K represented HITS at the International WTUN Students Competition 2024. This year’s theme of the Competition was “Inclusive Technology and Global Citizenship for the 21st Century.”
The HITS team submitted their Project called Neel Gendh or Water Balls based on SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation and bagged the First Place and won a cash prize of Rs. 1.20 lakhs.

The Induction of the students of the NonCSE branches was held on 1 August 2024. The Chief Guest for the event was Mr James Rajan Director Wartsila India Pvt Ltd and Alumni – Department of Mechanical Engineering batch 1985 – 89. He shared his professional experiences and offered valuable advice to the budding engineers, emphasizing the importance of innovation, continuous learning, and perseverance in their careers.

The Induction of the Computer Science students was held on 2 August 2024. The Chief Guest for the event was Ms. Niranjana Seshadri, Subject Matter Expert, Kyndryl Private Limited, Chennai and Alumni from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering batch 2016-20. Ms. Niranjana delved on the ways and means to hold on to one’s esteem to be successful in one’s life and career. Later, the deans and heads encouraged the students to actively participate in activities conducted for their betterment.

The Freshmen students of B. Com, M. Com, B.A. Political Science, and M. Sc. Chemistry were inducted into their respective programmes on 22 August 2024. Col (Hon) Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Vice Chancellor, in his presidential address emphasised on the importance of Academics, Discipline, Value Added Courses, Clubs, Sports activities in the University. They were also informed about the various
activities held on and off campus and were encouraged to participate in all the events. On 24 August 2024, the induction was conducted for the students of the Departments of B. Sc. / M. Sc. Food Technology; B. Sc. and M. Sc. Visual Communication; B. Sc. Fashion Design; and B. Sc. Physical Education. The Special Address was delivered by Dr. R. W. Alexander, Pro Vice Chancellor and he stressed on the importance of current affairs. Following this, the heads of departments of Languages, Training, International Affairs educated the students on the opportunities available at HITS for their career betterment.
NAVY OFFICER’S MOTIVATIONAL TALK

As part of the Indian Navy's reach out to schools and colleges to motivate youth on "Being Their Best”, a motivational talk titled 'Extraordinary Life in Indian Navy of an Ordinary Boy' was delivered by Cdr Rajiv Prassanna R, Commanding Officer. Indian Navy to the students of HITS on 23 July 2024. The inspiring speech urged the students to think of a career in the Indian Navy.

78th INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

The 78th Independence Day was celebrated on 15 August 2024 in the Bay Range Campus. The Chief Guest for the day was Captain T.S. Ramanathan, Commanding Officer, School of Oceanology and Meteorology, Kochi. During the event, the Chief Guest presented awards to the best NCC cadets and NSS volunteers, recognizing their outstanding contributions and commitment to the institution and the nation.

The School of Health Sciences in association with the IMAX Hospital organised the White Coat Ceremony for the first-year students of Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Optometry, Pharmacy, and other B.Sc. Allied Health Science programmes on 12 September 2024. The Chief Guest for the Ceremony was Dr. V. Chokalingam, Senior Cardiologist. The other dignitaries in attendance were Dr. Ashok George Verghese, Pro Chancellor; Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan, Pro Vice Chancellor; Dr. Jaffery, Chairman, IMAX Hospital; Dr. Prashanth Rajendran, Medical Director, IMAX Hospital; Dr. C. The Chapter was inaugurated by Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Chairman –Hindustan Group of Institutions and was graced by Dr. Annie Jacob Verghese, Director, KCG College of Technology. Mr. Subhav Mahavir (HCAS-BBM -’98) Client Partner, TATA Consultancy services Ltd was elected as the Chapter President and Mr. Siddhu Kolappan (KCG-CSE -2010), Sr. Manager, Amazon Web Services is the Vice President.


The Europe Alumni Chapter of HGI was inaugurated Cartoucherie, Toulouse, France on 21 September 2024. The event was presided by Dr. Ashok George Verghese, Pro Chancellor and Vice President, HGI. Dr. R. Ashokan, Dean – Aeronautical Sciences was also a part of the event. Mr. Avinash R.(Mech -2008), Project Leader & Team Lead, CIMPA PLM | President of France -India Association and Ms. Bhavna singh (Aero -2012) ZEROe H2 Storage & Distribution Lead, Airbus were the elected as the President and Vice President respectively. The Alumni of Hindustan Group of Institutions attended the inaugural meet and expressed their delight to be part of the alumni network.

Ms. Nalini Babu (CSE ’99) delivered a talk under the Alumni Talk series organised by HITSAA along with the Training Department on 19 August 2024. She spoke on the Importance of Career Building.

A few alumni of class of 2000 visited the campus on 20 July 2024. They were overjoyed to meet their mentors and patrons. They also interacted with the current batch of students and shared their experiences during their stay in the Bay Range Campus.

BASKETBALL TEAM QUALIFY FOR ALL INDIA INTER UNIVERSITY BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The Men's Basketball Team beat SRM Institute of Science and Technology by scoring 81-80 in an action packed match at the South Zone Inter University Basketball Men Tournament held at Christ University, Bengaluru between 1-5 November 2024. This historical win has enabled the team to qualify for the All India Inter University Basketball Championship after a gap of five years. The team has also clenched their place in the upcoming Khelo India University Games.


INTER-STATE INVITATIONAL CRICKET TOURNAMENT FOR THE DIFFERENTLY ABLED
The cricket teams from Tamil Nadu Para Cricketers Association for Differently abled and Differently abled Cricket Association of Andhra Pradesh participated in the tournament held on 25 August 2024 at the Bay Range Campus. The tournament commemorated the National Sports Day 2024 and was hosted by the Headway Foundation in Association with HITS. After a scintillating match, the team representing the Tamil Nadu Para Cricketers Association for Differently abled won the match.

OLYMPIC QUIZ

The event was held on 3 August 2024 and aimed to promote the Olympic spirit and enhance students' knowledge regarding the Olympics and sports in general. The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. V. Devarajan, an Olympian Boxer, Arjuna Awardee, and Sports Officer at Southern Railways, Chennai and the Guest of Honour was Mr. Abraham Varghese, Sports Advisor, HITS. The Quiz Master was Mr. M. Vishal, an esteemed Alumnus of HITS (B. Tech 2017 Batch) and currently a Senior Design Engineer at Ford Motor Company.

MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH ON "AIM FOR SUCCESS”
The programme was held on 3 September 2024 and the resource person was Ms. Krishna Jayasankar Menon, an International Discus Champion. She delivered an engaging and insightful speech, sharing her personal journey, the challenges she overcame, and the critical balance between academic and athletic pursuits. Following her address, the audience engaged in an interactive discussion with Ms. Menon, gaining valuable insights into her experiences. It was indeed an honour for the students of HITS to interact with such a truly inspiring prodigy.

• The National Service Scheme (NSS) under the theme "Swachh Bharat" organized a transformative eight-day camp at Kayaar Village as part of the Revamped Rashtriya Gram Swaraj, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, and SIRD & PR initiatives between 24-31 August 2024. The student volunteers stayed at a local government school, leading impactful projects that aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
» Health & Well-being (SDG 3): General Medical, Dental, Veterinary, and Eye camps were conducted in partnership with Sri Satyasai Medical College, Ragaas Dental College, Government Hospital, and Pammal Sankara Eye Hospital.
» Quality Education (SDG 4): Competitions on "Swachh Bharat" were held at Kayaar, Venbedu, and Illalur Government Schools and prizes were distributed. The team also donated sports kits and repaired two computer systems at the Kayaar Government School.
» Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6): Cleaning and wall painting were carried out at schools, with art contributions from Architecture students.
» Life on Land (SDG 15): Over 100 trees were planted in association with EFI.
» Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17): In collaboration with ALERT NGO, programmes like first aid awareness, and village sports meet were held. Also donated clothes to the tribal colony at Chinna Kayaar through the KCG Fashion Bank.
» The camp ended with vibrant cultural events, including cooking and rangoli competitions, bringing the community together.

MAKING WAVES FOR A CLEANER TOMORROW

The volunteers of National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) in association with the Environmentalist Foundation of India, organized a "Beach Clean Up Drive" at Kovalam Beach on 17 August 2024. Through the dedication of more than 150 student volunteers, the team collected a whopping one ton of plastic waste from the shores.

PROJECT RAINBOW 2024: A COLORFUL CHANGE FOR A BRIGHTER TOMORROW

This Outreach Event was organized by the NSS and NCC Cell in collaboration with the Y's Men Club of Hindustan Youth and the Rotaract Club of Hindustan University on 27 July 2024. The school beautification initiative took place at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Thiruporur, where over thirty enthusiastic students came together to transform their learning environment with a splash of colors.

The installation ceremony for the Rotaract Clubs of Hindustan University, KCG Tech, HIET, and HCAS was held on 11 August 2024 at the Hindustan International School Auditorium, Guindy. The event was graced by the presence of Rtn. Hemanth, President of the Rotary Club of Chennai Capital, and Rtr. Sanjana, District Rotaract Representative. Distinguished Rotarians, including Rtn. Anuj, Rtn. Vishal, Rtn. C.M. Kishore, and Rtn. Manoj Bhaiya from Chennai Capital, were also in attendance. The ceremony saw an impressive gathering of over 120 Rotarians. Rtn. Vijayakumar Damotharan, District Rotaract Chairman, delivered a profound and insightful address.

• 21 students of the graduating batch 2025 from the Department of Computer Science Engineering are placed with NexTurn, Hyderabad with a salary package of 6 LPA.
• A total of 16 students for the Department of Aeronautical have been selected by Safran Engineering Services, India after a stringent interview process. The salary package varies between 4-5LPA.
• Ms. Padmaja Samyuktha from the Department of Computer Science Engineering has been placed with BNY Melon as an Analyst with a salary package of 10.53LPA.
• Four Students from the Computer Science and Engineering have placed with Power of N, Chennai as Software Developers with a salary package of 5LPA.
• Two students from LLB and two from B.A. LLB are selected by the Land Marvel Group, Chennai with a pay package of 3LPA.
• Cadet SGT Mangala Vaishnavi, Alumnus of B. Tech. Aerospace Engineering (Batch 2017) was commissioned in Indian Navy on 28 June 2024. Currently she is undergoing one year training at Ezhimala at Kannur, India Navy.
