TO MAKE EVERY MAN A SUCCESS AND NO MAN A FAILURE Drive Your

Dreams

“Only a nation built on strong basic principles of economics will stand the test of time. It is for every one of us to think about where this country is headed and see what we can do individually and collectively to help India come out of the red. We are a billionstrong nation of talented and diligent people. We don’t really need to leave our home ground in search of greater pastures. It breaks my heart when I see brilliant and educated youngsters queuing up in front of the foreign embassies for visas. I wish I could tell them there are plenty of things they can do right here in India. Together we have to build a better nation.

I am reminded of the words of Martin Luther King Jr., “Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.”

This is what I have tried to do.

I wish I had the strength to do more.”

Preamble

The Birth of an Institution

In the early days of 1965, Late Dr. K.C.G. Verghese took up teaching assignments in Automobile Engineering subjects. His well-acquainted subject knowledge and inquisitiveness to the know-hows of the Automotive industry worldwide drew in a large number of students. While coaching for British Automobile Examination then, Dr. K.C.G. Verghese realized that Indian students could easily clear them with minimum preparation. It was at this moment, students promised Dr. K.C.G. Verghese to bring over a hundred students from Singapore and Malaysia if he were to set up an institution on his own. The idea dawned upon Dr. K.C.G. Verghese as he felt the time had arrived to start his own venture and thus Hindustan Engineering Training Centre (HETC) was started in 1966 as an educational institution intended primarily for foreign students. This irresistible quest for knowledge eventually paved way for the commencement of other Institutions under the Hindustan Group of Institutions (HGI).

Dr. Mrs. ELIZABETH VERGHESE FOUNDER CHANCELLOR

“We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future.”
- Franklin D. Roosevelt

With immense joy and heartful of gratitude, I extend my warmest felicitations as we commemorate the 40th year - the Ruby Jubilee - of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science. This cherished milestone is more than a celebration of time; it is a luminous reflection of a sacred journey that began with a dream-a dream to empower young minds through the transformative force of education, to illuminate lives, and to build a future anchored in knowledge, values, and vision.

Four decades ago, my beloved husband, Dr. K.C.G. Verghese, a visionary of rare spirit, planted the seeds of what would become one of India’s most admired institutions. With faith as his compass and service as his mission, he laid the foundation of “Hindustan” with a simple yet profound motto: “To Make Every Man a Success and No Man a Failure.” That principle continues to guide our every endeavour, echoing across classrooms, laboratories, and hearts.

From its inception in 1985, Hindustan has grown in splendour, rising from its humble beginning, to become a beacon of excellence in higher education. What once began as a fledgling technical Institution has blossomed into a thriving Deemed-to-be University, offering an impressive spectrum of programmes in Engineering, Technology, Management, Architecture, Law, Design, Liberal Arts, Health Sciences, and Aviation.

Today, HITS stands tall as a vibrant, inclusive, and innovative academic community, home to thousands of students from across India and the globe. It has been our privilege to nurture generations of scholars, dreamers, and doersyoung men and women who carry the torch of Hindustan into the world, shining brightly in every sphere they embark.

Over the past forty years, our University has attained many accolades-national recognitions, international accreditations, impactful research, visionary partnerships, and a thriving alumni network that spans continents. But far beyond the tangible achievements, it is the intangible essence of Hindustan-its culture of compassion, its spirit of resilience, and its unwavering belief in human potential-that truly defines its legacy.

I take immense pride in the Institution’s commitment to gender equality, sustainability, rural empowerment, and social justice. HITS has not only been a centre of learning but also a cradle of service. Through numerous outreach and development initiatives, our University has extended its hand to the underserved, the unheard, and the unseen by breathing hope where it is needed most.

It is a pride to acclaim how the seeds sown with sincerity have flourished into a vast canopy under which so many dreams are nurtured. The unwavering dedication of our faculty, the tireless support of our staff, the brilliance of our students, and the loyalty of our alumni have been the cornerstone of this remarkable journey.

On this auspicious Ruby Jubilee Year, let us not merely look back at what has been achieved, but also look ahead with renewed purpose. Let us rededicate ourselves to the values that define us-integrity, inclusivity, innovation-and move forward with courage and compassion towards even greater heights.

Let Hindustan continue to be a lighthouse for those who seek wisdom, a sanctuary for those who dream, and a platform where every learner is celebrated.

May the legacy of our Founder live on in every heartbeat of this University. And may HITS forever soar-radiant in purpose, resplendent in progress, and rooted in love for humanity.
