PREFACE I feel happy and privileged to present this Annual Report as the new academic year shows ray of hope against the vilest impact of COVID. While this COVID is not over yet, I wish and hope that this academic year may bring the smiling faces, more creative brains, and ambitious students to this lush green HITS campus. This Annual Report details the challenges we have piloted during the previous academic year and features the achievements and lists out every event conducted. This is the right juncture to congratulate the most committed and expert faculty members for executing the impeccable academic engagement and research activities. As a result, HITS continuously shines in the ranking and global recognitions. HITS secured the global ranking; rated gold in the QS i-gauge metrics and 301+ band in research-based ranking in QS world University Asia Rankings. Further, Times Higher Education (THE) impact rankings placed HITS as one of the top 1100 institutions in sustainable Development Goals. HITS ranked in the 150-200 band in NIRF ranking. HITS holds the world record for the “Highest number of Online Lessons Completed” for undertaking 2,20,745 online lessons. HITS has 26 industrial MoUs and 16 international universities MoUs. This indicates the HITS activities to the unprecedented level of pedagogical, financial, and academic assistance to the entire HITS community; and the augmentation of the international relationships. The student inbound during the pandemic also reaffirmed our position as one of the leading private universities for teaching and learning. The research activity has reached an all-time high target comparing the pre-pandemic years. HITS published 549 Indexed Publications, Articles, and Book Chapters. HITS obtained ₹ 83.87 lakhs towards research funding and Consultancy. The new infrastructure establishments such as Edison Center, a hub of School of Liberal Arts and Applied Sciences (SLAAS), the hostels with all amenities, and many more were completed, and many are underway. This year HITS extended the warm and kind hands to the Covid affected people by donating ₹50.00 lakhs to the Tamil Nadu CM Relief Fund and donating ₹50.00 lakhs worth of medical kits jointly with Trier University, Germany. With all the critical take ways, HITS is set to implement the National Educational Policy – 2020 (NEP 2020) in the upcoming academic years and is ready to lead from the front as a leading private deemed university in India.

AWARDS & RANKINGS Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings HITS emerged as one of the top Universities in India in Times Higher Education (THE) Impact rankings in Sustainable Development Goals SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and ranked 18th globally among 800 Universities and 85 Countries and regions. THE Impact RANKINGS OF HITS – 2021 • HITS achieved overall rank of 601-800 among all 1115 universities and 94 countries across the globe. • SDG6 – Rank 101-200 in Clean water and sanitation, and awarded 64.8 percent metric scores for Research on Water and overall worldwide 85.8%. • SDG7 - Rank 301-400 and awarded 61.8% metric scores for University measures towards affordable and clean energy. • SDG12 - 201-300 Rank in Responsible Consumption and Production, and awarded 70.2% metric scores in Operational measures. • SDG17 - 401-600 in Partnership for Goals with a metric score of 66.7% in Education for the SDGs parameter that indicates the vision of the institution towards sustainable development goals in line with United Nations SDG and its contribution as Higher Education Institution. HITS have been consistent in SDG17 rankings. QS e LEAD CERTIFICATION HITS emerged as one of the premier institutions in India during the Pandemic to have adopted technology enabled services for online teaching and was recognised with QS e-LEAD (Learning Excellence for Academic Digitisation) certification. It is awarded in recognition of Student Faculty Engagement, Learning Management System, Information Technology Support, Best Practices and Information Technology. Approval for the new programmes of B.A. (Triple Majors) - Political Science, Psychology and Economics, B.A. (Triple Majors) - Law, Economics and Political Science from School of Liberal Arts, B.Sc. Optometry program from School of Allied Health Sciences, B.Com. (BOAT) Board of Apprenticeship Training program from the School of Management, Two-year LL.M. program from School of Law. The modality of the End Semester examination November 2020 was online. Approval for the Renaming of ‘School of Architecture’ as “School of Planning, Architecture and Design Excellence (SPADE)” from the academic year 2020-21. Approval for additional provisions in the Academic Regulations for M.B.A. / M.C.A. / B.Com. / B.B.A. / B.C.A to offer these programmes under Open and Distance Learning (ODL). The University has applied for IET accreditation for 9 B.Tech. programmes (CSE / ECE / EEE / Mech. /Auto / Aero / Aerospace / Mechatronics / IT). Due to the heavy crisis in the pandemic time, the fee concession of 5% in tuition fee for all the candidates across disciplines was provided. The department budgets should be made inline with the NIRF requirements.

Obtained a patent on “An IOT Based Intelligent Driver Assisting System” from Australian Innovation Patent.

PLACEMENT Description: Several companies including IBM, Infosys, Wipro, TCS, KaarTechnologies, ZohoCorp, Verizon, Object Frontier Software, Saint Gobain Glass, Gestamp Automotive, Advanced Medical Systems, Healthwatch Telediagnostics, Brillio and AGS Health; and equal number of IT and core companies visited the campus for recruitment. The highest package for the academic year offered was 10 LPA. Rotaract club of Hindustan University received 6 Special Awards in “Glory” Annual District Awards conducted online on 28th June 2020 by District Rotaract Council, District 3232.

Rotaract club of Hindustan University received ‘Platinum Distinction Citation” from Rotary International for the year 19-20 for the outstanding contribution to the society.

Rahaman was installed as the president along with secretary Yy. AlbinusSanjeevan and other board members for the Y’s Year 2020 21. The club exhibited all the events done by the club over past year and reported it to the District Governor PWAF. Ysm. Muralidharan. The Installation ceremony of Hindustan youth was organized along with Y’s men’s club of Chennai OMR on 26th July 2020.

Rotaract club of Hindustan University along with the Rotary Club of Chennai capital celebrated Independence Day celebrations at Little Drops Home, Mangadu on 15th August 2020.Rtn. D.K. Jain, President, Rotary Club of Chennai capital along with Rtr. Gokul Krishnan, President, Rotaract club hoisted the flag and the team distributed the new cloths and facemask to the home people. Y’s Men Club of Hindustan Youth and Y’s Men Club of Myla pore celebrated chancellor’s birthday by offering food and basic needs at various orphanage s and good life centers. Cake was cut, happiness and joy were spread among everyone.

NSS cell of HITS conducted an awareness on National Education Policy as instructed by AICTE and MHRD, we sent bulk emails to students about National Education policy 2020 and also conducted an Awareness quiz on National education policy 2020 on 26th Sept.2020.. Competitions were conducted among school and college students on the topic “Swachh Bharat” on that day and prizes were announced. We also did Swachh Bharat activities inside the college.
