We would like to sincerely welcome you to our first on farm sale!

We have been raising registered Limousin cattle for over 40 years and selling Limousin bulls in the Prime Limousin Club Bull Sale for 31 of those years. We were founding members of the Prime Limousin Club, and enjoyed many successful years marketing our cattle alongside our friends in the industry.

2016 marked the 100th anniversary of our family homesteading on our home quarter in Sturgeon County, Alberta. A lot has changed in 100 years, however our values of raising crops, cattle and kids have all remained the same. This year we have made the decision to host our own on-farm bull sale. With more high quality herd sire prospects than ever, we are pleased to be able to offer our entire selection of two year old and yearling bulls through our sale for your appraisal. We are confident that you will find a variety of bulls, representing nine different herd sires, to meet many needs. Calving ease, performance, and maternal qualities are all represented in this offering to suit both the performance seeking commercial producer as well as the producer intending to retain replacement females. There are also genetics that we feel would be superb additions to purebred Limousin breeders’ bull battery. Our two year old bulls were on grass all summer, and both two year old and yearling bull groups have been developed with the goal in mind of becoming sound breeding bulls.

From our early days in the Limousin breed until now we have been striving to raise high quality cattle that will calve easily, come out on top in performance, and rail a profitable carcass. We believe Limousin cattle need to maintain thickness and muscle to excel in the beef industry. The Limousin breed has proven time and time again to be a profitable cross for our commercial customers. This year, we are proud to offer six open commercial heifers in the sale, raised by one of our commercial bull buyers, the Fossheim family. We are also very excited to be featuring three open purebred heifers from some of our top producing females!

We are very thankful for and sincerely appreciate all of the buyers who have supported us through the years, and we hope to continue to provide you with sound, easy to manage bulls, that will provide you with a profitable calf crop. VIDEO SALE This is a video sale in a heated sale barn.

The bulls will be penned outside the sale barn with prerecorded videos played on large TV screens during the sale. Therefore, we encourage you to come early on sale day or stop by prior to the sale day to inspect the sale offering.

HERD HEALTH & SEMEN TESTING The bulls have been developed on a TMR ration with silage, oats, and Hi-Pro supplement pellets. Hillview Farms is on a complete herd health and vaccination program. All bulls have been scrotal measured, semen tested, and inspected by a veterinarian prior to sale. Updated weights and scrotal measurements will be available sale day.

SALE DAY PICK UP CREDIT $100 taken off bull purchase price if you take them home sale day.

BOARDING & DELIVERY Free delivery to central points in Western Canada. Trucking can be arranged elsewhere at as minimal cost as possible. Delivery will be arranged at mutual convience of seller and buyer between March 5 and April 15. Bulls can remain at farm until April 15 at no additional cost.

OPEN COMMERCIAL HEIFERS Raised by the Fossheim Family :: Edson, Alberta Thank you to the Verbeek Family for inviting us to be part of their sale. Our family have been using Limousin bulls for over twenty years now, Dad bought his first Limousin bull from Ray in 1996 and we haven’t looked back. We had great success with the Limousin breed including being named the 2011 Commercial Breeder of the Year. We find that using Limousin bulls on our cows always given us a great steer and an even better heifer. The heifers we have brought for this sale come from cows that always produce great calves, are easy to handle and have good feet. The mothers of these heifers are mostly Simmental with some Limousin influence. The sires of these heifers are all Limousin. Ray, Colin and Chris picked these six consignments out of fifty heifers so we feel confident that we are offering some of our best and that they will be excellent producers. They have had a full health vaccination program that includes EXPRESS 10 and 8-way in the spring at branding and in the fall at weaning. We appreciate this opportunity to show just a few of our heifers and are proud of the quality animals we are producing. A Tradition of Purebred Genetics and Family Involvement

With binders of pedigrees, advertisements, performance evaluations and photos, Raymond and Corine Ver Hillview Farms Limousin at Morinville, Alberta have thirty years of history and genetic information spread up kitchen table on a December afternoon. They reminisce about their favourite cows and herd bulls they have over the years, and by looking back at the papers from their very first Limousins they trace these fullblood g back to France. Their farm is a busy, friendly place where family is always at the heart of everything and neig act as an extended family. The Verbeeks reflect on all the work they have done to make their purebred Li operation a success, and talk about their involvement in community activities that keep them busy beyond th

Raymond was raised on the Verbeek family farm at Morinville, which is approaching its one hundredth anniversary. Before raising beef cattle, the Verbeek family ran a mixed farm, growing grain and raising hogs and dairy cattle. It was in the early days of the Limousin breed in Canada that Raymond and his family were drawn to the idea of raising beef cattle for the first time.

His cousin Leo Verbeek owned a number of continentals in the early 1970s, and, as Raymond explained, he felt that “Limos had a future ... They were nice, heavily muscled cattle, and still had the calving ease of the British breeds ...

We wanted to farm, and we never really had any beef cattle, and we decided that we would give it a try.” Raymond and his brother Gordon ventured into the world of Limousin cattle by leasing 14 head from Leo in 1974, and then the three of them went on to c family partnership, Verbeek Limousin, in 1975. In 1977 the brothers bought thirty-one head to try it on the Looking back at their start in the cattle business, Raymond recalled “we got into it pretty fast and hard.” The Ve were attracted to the characteristics displayed by the early fullblood Limousin bulls available in Canada, cem their decision to base their herd on fullblood and later purebred genetics.

Raymond and Corine were married in 1983, and their four children— Marissa, Jessica, Sarena and Colin— all a role on the farm. “They were all interested,” they explain as they sort through photos of the kids with th projects. As a family, the Verbeeks were very busy with 4-H for many years, with the children exhibiting projects, including beef and horse. Corine has been involved with the Qui Barre 4-H club for thirty years, and they continue to sell many ca young 4-H members in the area.
