Welcome to our 2023 sale, marking 46 years raising registered Limousin seedstock and our 7th on-farm bull and female sale. We want to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported our 2022 sale, we are tremendously grateful. It has been another big year for us as we continue to grow and advance our grain and cattle operations. As all of us in agriculture can attest to; the challenges are great, but the rewards that this life affords are like nothing else. Spending every day doing what we are passionate about, working together as a family, on land our family has farmed for over 106 years, carving out our own goals and seeing them through – these make it all worthwhile –despite the bumps that might come along the way! We are excited about our future, and so glad to have you be a part of our program!

Our two year old bulls are hand picked, not picked over. We critically select our intended two year old bulls as yearlings and develop them specifically for that intended purpose. They forage a large grass pasture all summer and fall and come in hardened, fit and ready to be grown out slow and steady for many years of breeding ahead. This year’s offering is consistent and thick, thick, thick with true Limousin muscle, big top, and middle.

This is truly our best yearling bull selection to date. From start to finish you will find consistency. We are proud to offer this great set of bulls, backed by pedigrees that we know work over and over. The 5 open purebred heifers represent strong cow families and proven sires. We don’t offer many females for sale; this is your opportunity! Canadian Junior Limousin Association members receive a 10% discount on female(s) purchased from the sale. Every animal in the sale is a purebred, registered Limousin and comes with a registration paper.

We understand the importance of this as being the single most important investment you are making to impact your herd and your bottom line for years to come. Nothing is better than coming to see the bulls in person. We invite you to come any time ahead of the sale to tour the offering. We would be pleased to give you a tour and have a visit. We are providing a $100 sale credit and entry into a customer appreciation draw for everyone who tours between January 15 and March 3. If you cannot make it in person, please give us a call to discuss the cattle and let us help you make the best purchase(s) for your operation. Our sale staff are also available to discuss the cattle with you and assist you in making your buying decisions, we encourage you to reach out to them with any questions on sale day. As photos and videos were taken in early January, we are confident you will find the cattle to be far better in person now, and even more impressive when they are delivered to you as they continue to develop on the same slow TMR ration they are grown on through to delivery.

The bull sale is a culmination of the entire year, and decisions in the years prior. The sum of an incredible amount of work rolled into one event. We are beyond grateful for our family and friends that pitch in to make this day a success. PRACTICAL RANCH-RAISED CATTLE. 46 years building strong cow families that you will see repeated over and over as you study the pedigrees of our herd. Our cowherd certainly works for us, not the other way around. We don’t have time (and we know you don’t either) to deal with calving issues, poor udders, or disposition issues. Sound structured, low maintenance females with good dispositions that bring home fat calves in the fall are the only kind we keep.

BULL DEVELOPMENT Our feeding program is built to maximize forage utilization and gut health. Forages are sampled and analyzed to ensure quality. The bulls have been summered on grass, and wintered on a forage-based TMR that matches suitable protein sources to proper starch to develop and express their genetic potential and promote lean muscle growth. Organic minerals are used to ensure proper immune function and overall health. Throughout the fall and first part of winter they are fed in the field, for maximum exercise. They will continue on the same feeding program post-sale. They have been responsibly developed slowly for longevity in commercial conditions. If you have questions about the nutrition program please reach out to us or our nutrition consultant.

HERD HEALTH Hillview Farms is on a complete herd health vaccination program. Calves receive Bovi-Sheild Gold One Shot and Vision 8 Somnus + Spur before they go to pasture and are boostered pre-weaning with the same two vaccines. The coming two year old bulls are also boostered in the fall. Breeding females receive Vira Shield 6 + VL5 HB and Scour Bos. Every animal also receives Solmectin in the fall and CyLence in the winter. All bulls have been scrotal measured, semen tested, and inspected by a veterinarian prior to sale. A copy of the test results will be provided to the buyer. Weights and scrotal measurements will be available prior to sale day.

DELIVERY & BOARDING $100 off your purchase if taken home sale day. Free delivery to central regions in Western Canada, at the convenience of Hillview Farms, and buyers risk. Hillview Farms will arrange for trucking at buyer’s cost for purchases going to Eastern Canada or other areas. Purchases can be kept until April 4, 2023, at no charge, after that time, cattle will be kept for $4/day. We ask that purchase(s) left at Hillview Farms please be insured.

LIMOUSIN LEGACY PROJECT We invested in genotyping and homozygous polled testing our cowherd through the CLA’s Limousin Legacy 100K genotyping project in 2021. In addition to phenotypic evaluation and sound data collection, we are pleased to be a part of the continual improvement in accuracy of EPDs within the breed and our own herd.
