Hillsdale’s Annual Welcome Rally

Madeline Dixon and Andi Taylor Staff Writers

To start the school year off with a bang, this year’s first rally was held on the second Friday of the school year, and it was quite the show. The Leadership class really outdid themselves with the Welcome Back Rally, decorating the entire gym in colorful red and blue signs customized to cheer on each grade level. The rally began with a comedic video made by the Leadership class centered around the hardships of back to school shopping, making the audience roar with laughter. Freshman Caroline Lim commented that she “wished she could sit towards the middle” during Rally A, as the Welcome Back video projection was difficult to see, as many freshmen and sophomores have noted. Over the course of the rally two screaming contests took place, both of which the new teachers were asked to judge. Each class was accompanied by cheerleaders to support them as they took turns rising to their feet and erupting in ear-piercing cries, shrieks, and howls. Though all grade levels proved to be deafeningly loud, the juniors stole the show in both rally A and B. The freshmen

gave it a good try, but unfortunately came in last place nearly every time. The crowd was delighted to watch performances by both the varsity and junior

whole routine more even more entertaining. This season kick off was also thoroughly enjoyable for the cheer squad. Freshman junior varsity cheerleader, Alyssa Jules Abad, exclaimed, “The rally was fun and entertaining! The spirit really shows throughout the grades! Performing was so much fun and to hear your school cheer you on back, made it more magical!” Throughout the r a l l y, s e v e r a l c l a s s competitions took place such as an obstaclecourse-type relay race involving potato sacks with mermaid tails and shark mouths.
