SUSTAINABILITY IN THE TROPHY & AWARDS INDUSTRY: MORE THAN JUST A TREND

Sustainability is no longer a buzzword—it’s a business imperative. Across sectors, organisations are being called upon to demonstrate environmental responsibility in every aspect of their operations. The awards and recognition industry is no exception. From corporate events to sporting ceremonies and educational achievements, the very symbols of success— trophies, plaques, and medals— are being reimagined through the lens of sustainability.

A Changing Standard

Traditionally, trophies have been made from a combination of metals, plastics, and synthetic finishes. While these

materials have long offered versatility and durability, they often come at an environmental cost—particularly when they involve virgin plastics, imported materials, or energy-intensive manufacturing processes.

In recent years, however, the industry has witnessed a marked shift. Suppliers, designers, and manufacturers are exploring new materials and processes that reduce environmental impact while maintaining the prestige and aesthetic value of the award. This evolution isn’t driven solely by regulation or cost—it’s increasingly a response to client demand. Organisations want the awards they present to reflect their values, including their commitment to sustainability.

Materials That Matter

One of the clearest shifts has been in material selection. Recycled acrylics, FSC-certified woods, biodegradable resins, and metals with high recycled content are becoming more common. Even more innovative approaches are emerging, such as using ocean plastics or waste from other industries—like fishing nets or industrial by-products—as raw materials for award production.

These choices go beyond mere symbolism. Sustainable materials are being selected for their functional benefits—lightweight properties, engravability, durability, and a refined finish that matches or even surpasses conventional alternatives. At the same time, reducing packaging waste—through recyclable, biodegradable, or reusable presentation boxes—is gaining traction across the supply chain.

Design for Purpose

Sustainability is not only about materials. It’s also about design thinking. Leading manufacturers are adopting principles of minimalism and modularity, creating

trophies that avoid excess and favour clean, timeless forms. These pieces are not just beautiful—they are efficient to produce, ship, and store.

There’s also growing emphasis on digital integration. Some forward-thinking producers are offering awards with QR codes that link to digital certificates, sustainability data, or recipient stories— replacing the need for extensive printed collateral and allowing for a deeper connection between the object and its meaning.

Certification and Transparency

As clients become more discerning, they also expect evidence. Environmental impact data, such as carbon emissions saved or recycled content percentages,

is becoming a standard request. Some suppliers now provide eco-labels or sustainability scorecards with each order, giving procurement teams and event organisers clear information to support responsible decision-making.

Manufacturers based in the UK or wider EU are also benefiting from proximity to clients, as regional production reduces the environmental impact of shipping, supports local economies, and enables faster delivery with a smaller carbon footprint.

A Collective Responsibility

Sustainability in the awards industry is not about compromise. It’s about innovation—

finding smarter ways to honour achievement while protecting the planet. Whether through new materials, responsible sourcing, or low-impact logistics, every link in the chain has a role to play: designers, engravers, suppliers, and clients alike.

Alcuni produttori utilizzano persino plastiche recuperate dagli oceani o rifiuti industriali.

Innovate Today . . . Transform Tomorrow

THE OBJECT THAT SEALS THE INTENTION

In today’s visually driven world, every element of a corporate event speaks volumes—including the trophy. No longer a mere afterthought, the award itself is now central to brand expression. Not as decoration, but as a meaningful synthesis of design, values, and sustainability.

Sustain Awards has spent more than a decade redefining what a modern corporate trophy can be. With a focus on industrial design—precise, understated, and aligned with brand aesthetics—they’ve worked with global leaders known for innovation, design-led thinking, and international impact. The result? Recognition pieces that don’t just complement the event experience—they elevate it.

Each trophy is created as a purposeful object: proportionally balanced, free from unnecessary detail, and designed to feel completely at home in the setting where it’s awarded. Materials are chosen with care—not simply to tell a sustainable story, but for how they perform. Postconsumer recycled plastics, FSC-certified beechwood, and polymers made from reclaimed Mediterranean fishing nets are selected for their weight, finish, resilience, and suitability for personalisation by printing or engraving.

This is sustainability by design, not declaration. Every piece includes a

certified eco-label with verified data comparing its impact against a traditional trophy—covering emissions avoided, use of recycled materials, and safer, non-toxic components.

Design as an Extension of Brand

Graphic design plays a key role in every Sustain Awards project. Working closely with branding teams, agencies, and internal creatives, the company ensures that each piece embodies the visual identity of the event—far beyond simply adding a logo. Typography, colour palette, and material finish are considered integral components of the final product.

Larger orders can be fully customised, with tailored options for colours, bases, and material combinations. Nevertheless, the design approach remains consistent: a considered alignment with the brand’s identity, ensuring each piece reflects its values with elegance and restraint.

For clients running multi-location or remote events, Sustain Awards offers a premium worldwide dropshipping service. Every item arrives plastic-free, in recycled packaging, individually labelled and ready for handover—removing the need for repacking or redistribution.

A Trophy That Speaks Without Words

The brands that choose Sustain Awards aren’t looking for something decorative. They want an object that speaks to

their values—cleanly, clearly, and without excess. Something well-made. Thoughtfully designed. And unmistakably on message.

Because when every detail counts, even the trophy becomes more than a symbol— it becomes part of the brand story.

INTRODUCING EFX’S NEWEST BESPOKE SUSTAINABLE AWARDS

At EFX they are passionate about sustainability. It’s reflected in the materials they use, the processes within their factory and even the packaging used.

That’s why EFX are delighted to showcase a new collection of bespoke trophies, all made with sustainability in mind.

These are great inspiration for any organisation or events where eco-friendly commitments are a core part of who you are and what you do.

Let’s take a closer look!

Why choose a sustainable trophy?

Giving an award is a statement, it reflects on your company, on your brand and your values. They’re items that will stand the test of time and be treasured in a prominent place for years to come.

So it’s absolutely essential that your awards and trophies reflect your brand and company values, and showcase your commitment to them, now and in the future.

With these new products, EFX prove that sustainability doesn’t have to mean compromise. With advances in manufacturing techniques and processes, they are now able to use what previously would have either been wasted or harvested in an unsustainable manner to create awards with design merit and prestige.

These awards won’t cost the earth.

Sustainable Lifestyle Award

This award is a blend of sustainability and design, combining natural materials with a modern touch. The contrast of Ash and Walnut wood give it a distinctive look, while its sharp, asymmetrical shape adds a sense of movement.

A slim metal accent runs through the centre, reinforcing the

theme of balance between progress and responsibility. The engraved text is subtly placed along one side, keeping the focus on the trophy’s purpose.

Designed with care, this award recognises those making a meaningful impact in sustainability, celebrating innovation and commitment to a greener future in the lifestyle industry

Wave Quest Award

The Wave Quest Awards trophy is a sleek and modern design that captures the essence of the ocean. Its triangular shape gives it a sense of stability, while the combination of brushed recycled aluminium and warm wood creates a clean, natural look.

At the centre, a simple wave cutout adds a subtle but meaningful touch, representing movement, adventure, and connection to the sea. The mix of materials highlights both craftsmanship and nature, making it a fitting tribute to those who embrace the challenges of the water.

This award is a symbol of dedication and passion, recognising individuals who push boundaries and stay in tune with the rhythm of the waves.

Ecodesign Award

This elegantly modern trophy celebrates innovation in sustainable design. The Ecodesign Silver Award is a sleek fusion of environmental consciousness and contemporary aesthetics.

Framed in a minimalist metallic casing, the award showcases a striking inner core of marbled, recycled material in oceanic hues of soft blue, white, and subtle flecks of color, evoking the beauty of Earth’s natural textures.

The upright, transparent structure reflects clarity and purpose, while the clean typography and gentle tones project a message of hope, responsibility, and forward-thinking design.

Ideal for honoring impactful contributions to environmental sustainability, this award stands as both a symbol and a call to action for eco-conscious creators everywhere.

Luxury Motoring Award

This award embodies the sophistication and precision that defines the world of luxury motoring. Sculpted from recycled aluminium and acrylic, its sleek, angular form evokes the aerodynamic lines of high-performance vehicles, while its oblique surfaces reflect the elegance of the finest design achievements.

The structure rises in a dynamic, tiered formation, symbolising progress, innovation, and the ongoing pursuit of perfection. A striking contrast between pristine silver and deep gloss black elements add to its commanding presence, reminiscent of the refined aesthetics found in elite automotive design. The inscription is etched with precision along its sharp edge, detailing the prestige of this award.

This is a tribute to craftsmanship, sustainability, and the artistry of motion – an iconic symbol for those who drive their industry forward with vision and excellence.

Natural World Award

This award is a tribute to the harmony of nature, a design to honour those who champion the preservation and beauty of the natural world. Crafted from a blend of sustainable wood, recycled acrylic, and recycled aluminium, it reflects a deep commitment to environmental conscientiousness.

At its heart lies an open-frame design, symbolising the interconnectedness of ecosystems. Within this space, layered wood and blue-tinted acrylic form a flowing landscape evoking the contours of rivers and valleys, where land and water meet in perfect balance. The fluid, organic lines represent the everchanging yet enduring essence of nature, while the golden-hued frame adds a touch of prestige and timelessness.

This piece is a statement of respect for the planet, celebrating those whose efforts ensure that future generations can continue to marvel at the wonders of the natural world.

New Media Award

This award celebrates innovation, creativity, and the everevolving world, making it an ideal choice for new media industries. Made from recycled terrazzo-style plastic, recycled metal, and clear recycled acrylic, it embodies modern storytelling and digital evolution.

Shaped into a bold ‘N’, it symbolizes new beginnings and progress in the media industry. The speckled terrazzo-style base, crafted from recycled materials, reflects the diversity of digital content, while the golden frame and sleek acrylic panel add a touch of prestige. The inscription, set along the diagonal, represents forward motion and innovation.

This award recognises those redefining media and transforming the way we connect and communicate in a digital world.

The “Purpose Built” user friendly bespoke desktop 30PRO model features a single high density original DX11-F1080-A Epson print head producing vibrant transfers on either PET Film in A3 sheets or 30cm x 100m roll option.

Developed during 2024, the company working directly with the manufacturer ensured the issues associated with previously “modified” desktop DTF printers have been eradicated to deliver quality and consistent printed transfers. The innovations include, after extensive testing, using a patented “Low Sediment”

DTF ink reducing potential blockages or issues with print nozzles when not in use.

Other features include white ink circulation, an anti-collision system to protect the print head, controllable platform temperature, waste ink alarm, ink shortage alarm, Hoson board, easy panel display, optional cutting knife and Fiery RIP software.

This 30PRO printer is perfect for garment decorators who focus on logo size and smaller images up to A3. Also perfect for the ad-hoc user who does not yet have the volume, demand, or space to

justify either the 60PRO 2-Head or 4-Head production models the company also offers.

This new solution is complete with a one-year warranty along with a choice of transfer curing options with either manual or automated ovens. Other advantages include the reduced space requirement when using the A3 sheet format and reduced risk of head strikes.

The company extends their technical and marketing support for all users. Details of delivery, installation, and training options available on request.

DYESUB MAGIC®

VERSIFLEX™ –NEW SUBLIMATION TRANSFER INNOVATION

Under their DyeSub Magic® brand TheMagicTouch in the UK introduce a new and exciting addition to the world of sublimation transfer printing. As official platinum partners within the Sawgrass Technologies global network the company bring to market a sublimation innovation as never seen before.

The new VersiFlex ink formula together with coated sublimation paper are suitable to be used with the existing SG500 and SG1000 printer models both complete with the standard 2-year warranty. However, the new inks cannot be “mixed” using the same printer with the existing and proven UHD sublimation inks.

This new patented VersiFlex innovation now enables transfers to be applied to almost anything including cotton along with natural fabrics as well as uncoated wood and poly-coated blanks. Together

with a new easy-to-use software platform the process becomes the most affordable entry-level transfer option available today. Please note the new VersiFlex inks allow you to still sublimate as normal onto the traditional coated products such as mugs, coasters etc by simply using the standard DyeSub Magic sublimation or similar papers.

The VersiFlex ink cartridges consist of a Cyan, Magenta and Yellow together with an expander cartridge which is positioned where the Black cartridge would normally

be positioned. All inks are Reach Compliant, RoHS and OEKO-TEX certified.

The existing Sawgrass sublimation inks have revolutionised personalisation for many products that remain popular items for promo and gift markets including a myriad of different style mugs, vacuum bottles, coasters, polyester garments and much more than ever before.

TheMagicTouch continue to offer the latest in white toner-based technology, Direct to Film transfer solutions alongside the established MagiCut product portfolio of over two hundred different garment and textile flex, flock, glitter vinyls and foils.
