Why am I shifting to the real thing? Not because they are prettier than the silks, but you can get so much variety in colors and textures, so you can transform a one-dimensional space. The introduction of these plants can also be complimented with a waterfall. There are so many varieties of these in many different stores. You could find the one you like first, then place the pots and plants around it.

Over the last year, the residents of this brilliant city have truly come together as a community and supported not only strangers but each other in a most compassionate way. I recently had the honor of meeting and sitting down with a local couple who not only run a successful business but whose hearts and philanthropic efforts match the enormity and splendor that is Las Vegas. Meet Cliff and Darlene Miller― owners of MJ Christensen Diamonds. MJ Christensen Diamonds has been a known and trusted brand in Las Vegas since 1939. If a select diamond is properly identified and secured then probably in the next 10 years it can go up 100%-150% in value, due to scarcity of those diamonds,” explained Cliff. “The internet has created a challenge when shopping for diamonds as many only see a price. A lot of people don't realize that carat is a weight and not a size. You could have a carat that's 5.5mm in diameter or it could be where it should be 6.5mm and properly spread out. All these factors and many others make a huge difference in price.” “You have to know what you’re doing and what to look for when buying diamonds because the subtleties in diamonds are like no other item on the planet. For diamonds more than 6ct, slight color change, slight inconsistency and mistakes in polishing can kill the value. Two human hairs difference in size can create a possible $110,000 difference.” Professionalism and enthusiasm were penetrating every word that Cliff spoke. And Cliff knows his diamonds. Cliff and Darlene have achieved the level of Graduate Gemologist with GIA (Gemological Institute of America). Cliff is a member of the GIA League of Honor which is an award program that recognizes forward thinking leaders in the industry. Cliff and Darlene's names are also on the walls of the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad and there’s even a classroom named after MJ Christensen Diamonds. Cliff and Darlene are also a Certified Gemologist Appraisers with the American Gem Society and Cliff is a member of the Circle of Distinction with AGS. Within the industry, he resides on the Retail Board of the Centurion Jewelry Show.

Darlene's passion for helping others truly shines as bright as diamonds. When I say it was my honor to meet Cliff and Darlene…it truly was. They are a rarity in today’s world as they lead by example in following their core mission and ethics in both their personal and professional lives. Since arriving in Las Vegas, Cliff and Darlene have enjoyed supporting a multitude of charities including Southern Highland’s Charitable Foundation of which they are Founders of the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Highlands, Best Buddies of Nevada, Dress for Success, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and many others. They are also prior Sunrise Children’s Foundation honorees. Cliff serves on the Foundation Board of Opportunity Village and is a member of the board of Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation. Darlene is on the Advisory Board of Best Buddies, the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Las Vegas Gala Committee and is a member of WLC (Women’s Leadership Council of United Way Southern Nevada. She was recognized in 2010 by the Cultural Diversity Foundation as a Golden Hand Service Award Recipient for outstanding service in the community and was recognized by Silver State Awards with the Humanitarian Award in 2016.
Before I left, I asked Cliff one more nugget about how women choose diamonds. His response?
“When women see certain diamonds there's an instant connection. Stones choose the owner. You could look at 20 diamonds, but one will look at you with puppy eyes and will ask you to take it home.” Spoken as a true aficionado and a man who loves his work.

There are times, where we get along and times where we may not agree, but in the end— you are still there no matter what. UNCONDITIONAL LOVE Thank you for having unconditional love. No matter how many times we seem to fail you, your love never seems to change. All the times that we may have caused you to be angry, hurt, and worried, you still have love to give with open arms. From the minute we were born to raising us from kids, you were there. You were there to pick out our outfits, tried your best to attend every event, and made sure that there was always food on the table. No one else’s love can compare to yours, and that’s what makes you great.

I can’t say this more than enough, that I appreciate and value everything you do, and it is because of you that is why I am who I am today. This Mother’s Day, I want to say thank you to all the wonderful moms out there, even though you have one of the toughest jobs in this world— you still manage to be great.

Toyota Recognizes Visionary Women at 9th Annual Women in the World Summit Toyota Mothers of Invention Class of 2018 Honorees Develop Solutions to Combat Human Trafficking and Drug-facilitated Assault and Create Technology Platform to Connect Families The 9th annual Tina Brown Live Media Women in the World Summit, presented and co-hosted by Toyota, featured the Mothers of Invention (MOI) Class of 2018, celebrating pioneers who are driving positive change in the world through innovation and entrepreneurship. Three grants in the amount of $50,000 each were awarded for groundbreaking work in developing solutions to combat human trafficking, drug-facilitated sexual assault, and to create an educational technology platform that connects families. The Summit took place April 12-14.
Since its inception in 2012, Toyota has collaborated with the Tina Brown Live Media editorial team to identify three women annually who affect change throughout the world and have tremendous passion: the finalists meet a myriad of criteria, solving large-scale problems, affecting impact and growth, introducing new product categories, finding solutions to societal issues around the globe, innovating technologies and more. Danya Sherman (Founder and CEO, KnoNap) Danya Sherman is a young entrepreneur and the founder of KnoNap, a detection device cleverly disguised as a napkin that detects the most common date rape drugs. With one in 13 college-aged individuals having suspected their drink was laced with a rape drug last year, Danya's invention is timely and important. Q: Can you tell me about STK at The Cosmopolitan and its unique dining experience? Emil: STK is a unique concept that artfully blends the modern steakhouse and chic lounge into one. We like breaking the barriers in the restaurant industry with live DJ entertainment. Guests frequently make new friends with other tables; they will join them for shots, making this a very interactive social environment. The energy here is all about social connections so you have people mingling, dancing, and dining together. Q: How would you sum up STK’s at The Cosmopolitan approach to cuisine? Emil: We have a very modern take on cuisine, so we can cater to a high-volume while being a high-quality steakhouse; we deliver excellence and efficiency to our clientele.
We have a lot of new eye-catching dishes, especially the shellfish platter with a dry ice presentation; our goal with tables is to create a dining experience mixed with a little extravagance. Q: What’s your favorite item on the menu? Emil: The yellowtail crudo is a must-try at STK. The yellowtail sashimi is thinly sliced, drizzled with a spicy ponzu sauce, and finished with garlic crisps. It leaves you wanting more. Our prime cut Delmonico rib eye is just that; it is uniquely dry aged upwards of thirty days and the tenderness is unrivaled. The concentrated flavor and texture make it my favorite steak on the menu, without question. Q: What’s a dessert we must try? Emil: #The-Cloud— it’s a big hit at STK, masterfully created by Chef Brigette Contreras. #The-Cloud is a full-on presentation of cotton candy dessert comprised of Angel food cake topped with white chocolate cremeux, strawberry ice cream, strawberry compote, and whipped cream all hidden within a cloud of cotton candy. Emil: The first thing that strikes guests is walking into a steakhouse and having a live DJ playing in the restaurant. Emil: Growing up with a Lebanese background, dining for me isn’t just about sitting down to have a meal, it is about wanting to create a unique experience full of love. I have a strong passion for this industry from traveling and working in fine
dining venues internationally. I was a big fan and a frequent guest to STK when they first opened for their unique atmosphere. I was immediately drawn to the STK culture; the team we have make this brand successful- we like to call them the STK family. Our DNA is simple- we let our character and personality shine, we respect each other, and most of all, we have fun in the process. After all, we are all about creating memorable experiences and that starts with our family. Passion and love is everything from the inside out here at STK. Q: What’s next for STK? Emil: We are about to open our San Diego location this year, located at Andaz San Diego. It is a highly anticipated opening, as every other location has been, and everyone is eager and excited for it. Emil: By using the app, we get to see what the App calls the “level” of the clients which translates to their spending and dining behavior. Rather than just having a guest walk in blindly, we get a good indicator on what type of person is coming. So far, we have not been disappointed. At STK, we are usually fully committed every night and this is a good way for us to offer a benefit which they call “preferred seating” to only certain level-users – by that, we know who is having seats reserved and accommodate accordingly, more often than not even last minute. A cool thing is that the App sends the client their bill after dining automatically, so we don’t have to drop a check at the end of dinner which saves time and makes the whole process much more efficient for the guest and the restaurant. It seems LEVELS has found a solution to offset the awkwardness of the check drop after a fantastic meal. Q: How does LEVELS work when making a reservation? Emil: Everything works through a messenger on the App, and guests are usually notified immediately as soon as reservation is made. They simply walk-in, get recognized by the host,- since the App shows us a picture of the client- and get seated; it’s a simple
process. I like that it gives the guest and us the opportunity to remedy possible mishaps directly, rather than the guest going to a public platform without a bidirectional interaction. I feel clients are happier if we can do something immediately for them over having to write about their encounters online. JONAS FREY, CEO OF LEVELS App Q: How long did it take you to create and launch LEVELS? How does this App change this growing market? Jonas: First, LEVELS was created by a team of people - no great thing is built by one man. The App launched on March 7th, 2018- a team of now almost 40 has been working on this project for the past 2 years. I believe that the luxury market is one of the only markets which has not been completely automated yet. There is a huge variety of excellent services in the market but also an even bigger selection of useless overpriced tourist traps; for the consumer, it is hard to distinguish by looking at common online rating platforms since many of the truly great luxury services live on a recurring client base and do not boast great websites with automated booking procedures due to the lack of volume. These sometimes complicated booking procedures and the absence of transparency hinders new clients to “try” new things. By implementing one standard, one button- what we call inflatable payment-method, which is authorized by the face of our clients- we want to make this market more transparent and accessible to create a seamless lifestyle experience worldwide.
Q: How did you get funding for LEVELS? At the beginning of 2016, I pitched the idea to Andreas Weishaupt who took the risk of the initial funding of $150,000. After completing milestone by milestone, he continued to be the sole investor with an investment which is now almost $6 million. An interesting fact about this relationship is that unlike many other investors, Mr. Weishaupt is extremely involved in the development of the business on a strategic level. I would say no matter at which location of the planet he or I are at any given day, we speak at least one hour on the phone. I believe this played a big part in our recent success since Mr. Weishaupt represents the target group of our higher levels and gives me real life advice and feedback which I could not buy at any consulting firm. Q: Which markets are you currently in? Las Vegas was our very first market. Quality is our number one priority and since we are introducing a whole new way of paying, we needed to make sure that everything worked flawlessly- this perfection process took us almost one year. We reached this point and are now adding on new partners daily. Within the last year, we already established partnerships in Beverly Hills, Miami, New York, Munich, London, Paris, Singapore and a few more. These cities will be the focus of expanding our service in the next 12 months. Q: How is LEVELS different from other reservation apps? Jonas: LEVELS is not focused on restaurants alone but sees the luxury market as a way of life. That’s very much the case with Sam Fox—the creative visionary behind Fox Restaurant Concepts, which has taken hip and healthy hospitality to new heights. With concoctions like Mozzafiato (Ketel One vodka, smashed cucumber, lime, Chareau aloe vera liqueur, and green chartreuse); Quiet Italian Gentleman (Bulleit Rye, Cocchi Vermouth di Torino, Campari, Disaronno Amaretto); And Julietta (ginger-infused Smirnoff, vanilla, St. Germain, lime, and Prosecco), there’s an elixir for everyone. Locavore craft beers include options from Ballast Point, Green Flash, Stone Brewing Company and more. Given my own penchant for seasonally-oriented, detail-driven food that’s best realized with a handcrafted approach, I popped into North Italia for dinner service. It quickly became evident what all the fuss was about as, the mindfulness put toward curating top-quality ingredients and executing food with integrity is apparent. Here, details matter. My journey through North Italia commenced with a Grilled Artichoke served with sea salt, truffle, Grana Padano (a semi-aged hard Italian cheese), and lemon aioli. Unlike the usual steamed version, North Italia’s grilled variety has an earthy overtone that’s beautifully tempered with the savory garnishments. The Margherita pizza my party ordered as an appy also duly impressed, with its fresh mozzarella, red sauce, olive oil and fresh, fragrant basil that I only do wish there would have been more of. The entrée course allowed me to savor two marvelous mains. The first was Chicken Pesto, comprised of Gigli (Campanelle bellflower-shaped) pasta cooked al dente with just the right amount of bite, tossed with garlic, basil, and topped with toasted pine nuts and crispy capers. The second dish was the Diver Scallops—three well-seasoned and seared, medium rare-cooked morsels served
alongside a rich and creamy parmesan risotto, roasted butternut squash, Brussels, and topped with crispy shallot and pancetta that added both savory and texture notes. Dessert was an emotional experience all its own, as the Hazelnut Torta was dripping in Nutella cream and salted caramel gelato with buttery hazelnut toffee chunks sprinkled all about. Enough said. While not included in my recent repertoire, North Italia does have a signature dish. In an exclusive interview I conducted with Fox, he revealed that, while the eatery is best known for its pizza and pastas (with dough and pastas made by hand daily), the braised beef short rib with daily roasted root vegetables and creamy white polenta; and the Burrata Tortelloni with roasted mushroom, Swiss chard, porcini brodo, pecorino and saba are hallmark dishes for the burgeoning brand. As for Fox’s personal favorite menu item, that honor goes to the White Truffle Garlic Bread with house made ricotta, mozzarella, grana Padano, and herbs. Given its explosive growth of late, I asked Fox how North Italia can elevate its image even further. “Every restaurant should tell a story,” he said. “The vision is for North to be more than just an Italian restaurant—it’s more about creating a place, an experience that reflects life. When thinking about our guests and what is important to them in life, our team is able to deliver an authentic sense of food culture and the restaurant becomes a true part of the community.” Quite a salient perspective that clearly comes from well-honed experience. Fox’s come quite a long way from a career that started by packing a punch–literally. I’m told that, upon using his college tuition to open his first restaurant at 20 years-old, Fox was forced to learn how to cook when he got into a fight with his chef, and the chef broke his hand. An oddly fortuitous event considering Fox has since opened 80-plus restaurants throughout his career, with his Fox Restaurant Concepts currently employing nearly 4,000 people across six states—and with plans for continued significant growth in years to come.

He has performed in popular cities such as, Las Vegas, Miami, Dubai, Los Angeles, New York City, and Paris just to name a few and has traveled along-side with superstar Kelly Rowland as her official DJ. Q: In Downtown Orlando, there is a mural painting of you DJing, could you give us more insight on that? In 2014, I was voted best Red Bull DJ and was awarded this mural painting of me DJing, by artist Andrew Spear. Q: It must have been an honor to be announced America’s number one DJ, how did that come about? Every year, they hold a Red Bull Thre3style Battle, there is two rounds you must win before you go to the final competition which was held in Denver. The judges of the competition were legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff and Questlove. It was then that I won USA number one DJ, which landed me in Paris to represent the USA in the world showcase. Right after that, when everything was finished, I received a call and was told that Kelly Rowland was interested in having me as her DJ while she toured. Everything was happening so fast, but it was a great experience overall. Q: After hearing about your accomplishments, did you ever see yourself being where you are today? Q: When and where was your very first big performance and how did it make you feel? My first big performance was in 2002, it was for a Greek Fraternity and Sorority event. DJ Scoobz was performing that night and he had given me an opportunity to open for him. This was huge for me considering that DJ Scoobz is one of the biggest DJs in South Florida and he even told me up front, if you suck I’m going to have to kick you off stage. So, the pressure was on, and I was nervous, there were a lot of people there, but everyone loved me, and the crowd was going crazy, so everything turned out great.
Yes, I’ve always been the kind of person that if I set my mind to do something— I do it. No matter how hard it is, or what I had to do to get there— I do it. I also believe that it is important to remain humble and remember to give back. I make time and effort to be a guest speaker at the Boys and Girls Club, or career day at school. Q: What’s Next? Right now, I’m working on a Single called “Troll” we’re expecting it to come out within the next month or so. It’s going to be featuring Anonomis who’s performed with KRS- One, and Natural Phil who is the drummer. Together we are the mood designers, a live DJ/Drummer show.

(NYSE: LVS) is hosting Grammy award-winning artist Jason Mraz for a charity concert celebration at The Venetian Theatre on May 18 as part of the second annual INSPIRE event presented by Sands Cares, with all proceeds from ticket sales benefiting Sands Cares Accelerator Program Members. Las Vegas Sands also announced that Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth (NPHY) has become the second nonprofit organization invited into the Accelerator Program, joining the Inspiring Children Foundation (ICF). The two at-risk youth organizations will be beneficiaries of INSPIRE, which is being underwritten by Sands Cares to help Accelerator Program members increase their impact on the local community. Headlining the benefit concert, Mraz has quietly amassed a diverse and avid fan base throughout the world. Real Estate MarketTrends MORTGAGE RATES CONTINUE TO CLIMB… POPULATION IS BECOMING MORE DIVERSE… WE ARE WITNESSING HISTORICAL CHANGES Written by Yelena Brezhneva In the past 3 years we have witnessed quite steady increase in prices. Las Vegas March prices kept blooming. Home & condo prices grew faster than last year. Spring is in the air and we are finally enjoying the sun & good sales. The median price of local condominiums and townhomes sold in March was $160k, up by 30.1% compared to last year this time. We are still dealing with shortage of inventory, with only a 2-month supply. With that in mind, when you find a house that you like, make sure to put an offer right away and make sure it's a good one. Otherwise you'll regret losing that lovely home that could be yours, as multiple offers are still competing for a property in the market of $250k and less price range. We are back in the healthy real estate market and distressed sales are now a scarcity. 25% of all sales in March were cash sales and that's less than in March of last year. In February 2013 cash sales peaked to 59.5%, that's when investors played a big role in the market, but not anymore. If you are looking for short sales and foreclosures, then you need to know that only 2.9% of all home sales n March were
in this category. March of last year that number was around 10%. Here again we can see how market is become more traditional. Altogether total value of real estate transactions by end of March was $1 billion, that's 14.9% higher than last year and $126 million for condos & townhomes, that's 33.5% higher than last year.
