OPERATION Trim Tab If steering effort is not equal in both directions, adjust the trim tab to compensate for “torque steer,” which is the reaction of the outboard motor to propeller rotation. GEAR CASE GROMMET
TRIM TAB BOLT
When the trim tab is correctly adjusted, steering effort will be equal in both directions. Refer to TRIM TAB ADJUSTMENT on p.76.
SHALLOW WATER OPERATION When operating in shallow water, use the power trim/tilt switch (p.66) to tilt the outboard motor so that the propeller and gear case won’t hit the bottom.
TRIM TAB
Adjust the trim tab with the engine stopped. Remove the gear case grommet. Loosen the trim tab bolt above the trim tab, turn the trim tab, and then tighten the bolt and install the gear case grommet securely.

Proceed at low speed, and monitor water flow from the cooling system indicator (p.36) to be sure the outboard motor is not tilted so high that the water intakes are out of the water.
