OPERATION Cleaning a wet channel
Roadbed - cambering After laying out the drainage, the following step is to grade and camber the roadbed. Keep the frame straight ahead, the circle centered and the blade almost perpendicular to the machine so that the material rolls off by ends of the blade, and cut the crest of the road high enough to allow draining to both edges of the road. The articulated motorgrader turns cleaning wet channels into a very simple operation. Articulate the frame to the OFF-SET position, in order to keep the rear wheels on firm ground while the front wheels run along the bank. Move the circle and the blade toward the channel, with the blade angled to bring the material onto the roadbed. If the channel is steeply sloped, to the point of the front wheel losing contact with the soild, try to drive further into or out of the channel, to keep both wheels on the ground. If you do not want to let the rear wheels touch the slope of the channel, locate them partially toward the channel in surch a way as to skew the machine sufficiently to keep the front wheels in contact with the ground.
During subsequent passes, angle the blade between 10o and 25o and pitch the blade slightly forward to allow the material to roll toward the edges fo the road. Do these passes in a relatively high speed to allow the loose material to pass under the blade prior to reaching the sides. During the final pass, at each edge of the road, place the end of the blade in alignment with the tandem so rear tires will compact the material that may overflow from the sides of the blade.
