TECHNICAL NOTE N°12 SEC/AL DATED APRIL 25th 1969 (1)

Regarding the application to the lift trucks of the prescriptions of the amended decree dated august 1951 stipulating the checking condition of lifting equipment other than lifts and hoists. The load tests stipulated by the decree dated August 18th 1951, modified by the decree dated March 30th 1952, stating the checking conditions of the lifting appliances other than lifts and hoists apply to all the automotive lifting equipment with carried driver, be the driver sitting or standing at a non raisable driving post, which include a fork (or any other carrying accessory) which moves upward along single or telescopic masts, be the mast of the tilting type or not. The maximum load may vary according to the positions of the carrying body, therefore the tests shall be carried out according to the herebelow conditions :

1. STATIC LOAD TEST

If Pm is the maximum load that the equipment can move for the rated distance, stated by the builder, from the center of gravity of the above mentioned load to the forward face of the fork vertical part, then the static test load shall be 1,33 Pm. This test shall be performed at the maximum height stated for the corresponding load, with vertical uprights. The load may : - be placed on the fork through an appropriate means, - or hang from the fork near the ground. To take into account the crushing of the pneumatics or tyres the verticality of the uprights shall be restored after the placing of the load on the fork. For safety reasons the truck shall be anchored to the ground in such a manner that does not alter the test. It shall be checked after one hour, from the load removal, that there is no permanent distortion that could prove detrimental to the good operating conditions of the equipment.

2. DYNAMIC TEST

The dynamic test shall be performed according to the operating conditions stated by the maker and shown on a load plate attached to the truck in a visible manner. It shall take place in stages on a ground corresponding to the ground for which the truck has been designed. The dynamic test includes the following tests : 2.1 Travelling tests, 2.2 Stacking tests, 2.3 Forward tilting test with load, with stopped truck. If Pm is the maximum load that the appliance can move for the rate distance from the center of gravity of this load to forward face of the fork vertical part as stated by the maker with the uprights either vertical or tilted backward, the test load for the dynamic test for the travelling and stacking tests shall be 1.1 Pm.
