DEF Long Storage Conditions
As per ISO 22241-1 Standard – Annexure "C", Handling, transportation and storage procedures are given below. Transportation of the AUS 32 (DEF) should be in insulated tanks or in plastic containers.
Alloyed steels, various plastic materials and plasticcoated metal containers are suitable container materials. Non-alloyed steels, copper, copper-containing alloys and zinc-coated steels should not be used. Any other material not cited above should be tested regarding corrosion resistance and possible influences on the product specification.
The AUS 32 (DEF) should leave the manufacturer for shipping at a temperature of 30°C maximum. To avoid crystal precipitation or hydrolysis of the DEF, storage at normal conditions (optimum up to 25°C) is recommended.
Information on further properties of AUS 32 (DEF) is given in the DEF supplier material safety data sheet (MSDS), which contains indications on the hazard ranking and regulations to be respected as well as measures required to be taken for the protection of persons and of the environment when handling the product. Please refer to MSDS provided by DEF supplier for details of the same.
DEF Shelf Life - Replacement recommendations during Long storage
•DEF Shelf Life depends on the temperature of your storage facility. If the DEF is exposed to sunlight, the shelf life will be reduced. DEF shelf life respect to different ambient temperature conditions are given in the below mentioned table.
•The main factors taken in to account to define shelf life in the table above are ambient storage temperature and the initial alkalinity of DEF. The difference in evaporation between vented and non-vented tank is an additional factor.
•Storing DEF at higher temperatures will reduce its shelf life approximately by 6 months for every increase of 5°C.
•Mahindra recommend to replenish the DEF if the tractor shutdown period ( non operation) is > 6 months.
•If unsure how long or under what conditions the tractor has been stored , it is recommended to replenish the DEF before using the tractor.
