102 Operator’s Manual Vehicle Maintenance CXU, CHU, GU, TD, MRU and LEU Automatic Belt Tensioner Maintenance The automatic belt tensioner is designed to maintain proper belt tension throughout the life of the tensioner. The belt tensioner cannot be adjusted or repaired. At each D inspection interval or once per year, whichever occurs first, check the following:
• With the belt on the drive, check the following: Check to see if the tensioner is resting against the install stop or the free-arm stop. If the tensioner is resting against either stop, the tensioner must be replaced.

On main drive belt tensioners, check belt tracking. If the belt is tracking all the way to one side of the tensioner pulley (either the front- or back-side), replace the tensioner. Belt tracking can be determined by looking at the witness mark (the shiny area on the pulley where the belt rides). The witness mark should be approximately the same width of the belt.
