1 FOREWORD This instruction manual contains the information you need to know in order to operate and maintain the outer boom crane in the best possible way. Read the contents thoroughly before you start to use the outer boom crane and carefully follow the instructions provided. This gives the best prerequisites for prolonged trouble free functionality and provides good operating economy.

The spare parts catalogue is included as a separate part of the instruction manual and can include more model types than those taken up in the instruction manual.

We are striving continually to improve our products, and reserve the right to make design alterations without the obligation to implement these changes on outer boom cranes already delivered. Data and equipment are also subject to change without prior notice. The same applies for maintenance and other maintenance measures.

Cranab reserves the right to change the content of directions, instructions and data without prior notice.

National safety provisions In addition to the recommendations in this manual, each nation (state) has its own safety regulations. The same applies to traffic legislation. You are obliged to follow national provisions, if the recommendations in this manual deviate from the regulations of your country.

Failure to observe these instructions can result in danger of death or risk of personal injury. Carefully read through the summary chapter “Safety instructions” before starting work with the outer boom crane.

2 GENERAL DESCRIPTION The instruction manual provides information on the following crane models from manufacturing number X4001.

FC45, FC53, FC65, FC80, FC92, FC105, FC106, FC115, FC155

Identification There is an identification plate on the crane’s slewing motor housing with data about the crane model, serial number and year of manufacture.

Please refer to separate instruction manuals for instructions concerning mounted attachments, e.g. grapples and rotators.

Illustrated is crane FC45, yet the other cranes feature a similar design.

3 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS This chapter is a compilation of the safety instructions and regulations that must always be followed during work and maintenance on the crane. However, these regulations do not release crane operators from observing statutory or other applicable safety regulations regarding traffic safety and occupational safety areas.

Safety regulations that apply for different types of workplaces and regulations according to road traffic legislation must always be observed.

In order to use the crane requires knowledge of its operation and the safety regulations that apply to the crane and the workplace.

Repairs may only be carried out by persons that are fully conversant with the crane.

Faults, damage or wear that can jeopardize safety must be rectified immediately.

The crane is solely intended for mounting and timber handling on forwarders, crane wagons or stationary assembly.

Also see the “Maintenance and Inspection” section.

Warning!

The machine works in a risk zone of 20 m. The driver is responsible for ensuring that no unauthorised persons enter the risk zone.

Assembly instructions Supplementing with extra equipment in addition to that supplied or recommended must be approved by Cranab.

The crane may only be mounted in a fashion that complies with the demands it places on the hydraulic system according to the specifications in the technical data section.

Start and operating Daily checks before operating Before starting and operating, check the following •

Possible visible leakage.

•

Hoses (not loose or worn).

•

Checks concerning cracks and wear.

•

The crane must be free of dirt, timber residue and oil. This reduces the risk of fire and also makes it easier to detect defective or worn components.

Driving •

The vehicle’s parking brake must be activated when the crane is being operated.

•

It is forbidden to remain within the crane’s safety zone when working.

•

Carefully check that the correct joystick order applies.

•

Run the crane and grapple with gradual movements. This gives greater manoeuvring precision and also less wear on the equipment.

•

It is prohibited to operate the crane in the vicinity of electrical power lines. The minimum distance from live power lines must not be less than 5 m.

•

The crane must not be overloaded. See the crane's technical data for the maximum load.

•

Do not swing the crane until the load is clear of the ground.

•

It is prohibited to stand under a suspended load.

•

Never move the vehicle with a suspended load.

•

The crane must not be used to lift people.

•

The crane must not be used for towing, salvaging or the like.

•

The machine must be parked in the service position during service or repair work. See the owner's manual for the base machine.

•

Never leave the driver's cab when the machine is running.

•

The operator should be attentive for abnormal noise and leakage while operating. Any faults discovered must be rectified before continued use to avoid injuries to persons and material damage.

Park the crane The following applies when parking and during all service and maintenance work on the crane: •

Always park the crane in its parking position after use.

Safety instructions for inspection, service and repair.

•

The crane must be parked in a safe manner to avoid personal injury and material damage.

•

Inspection, service and repair work may only be carried out by persons that have knowledge of the crane’s operation and the safety instructions that apply to it.

•

Always use a work platform when working on the crane.

•

Always use personal protection equipment such as a hard hat, protective goggles, gloves, protective shoes and any other necessary protection during service and repair work.

•

Always bear in mind the risk of slipping and the risk of fire as well as the damage caused by contamination from the hydraulic system. Always clean the work area before work is started.

•

The risk of fire is ever-present. Make sure you know which type of fire extinguisher you need to use. Note where it is placed and learn how to use it.

•

The engine must be stopped before service or repair work is started.

•

The hydraulic system must be shut down when the crane is being serviced or repaired.

•

Relieve the pressure before carrying out maintenance on the hydraulic system.

•

In the event of high pressure, hose rupture, leakage and careless opening of nipples can cause serious injuries.

•

Pressure adjustment should be performed by authorised personnel.

•

There must be a free area of at least 20 metres around the crane when testing operations. Only the operator may remain in this area while operations are tested.

Safety on the vehicle In some cases the vehicle will need to be supplemented with safety equipment appropriate to the area of application. Also observe the national safety provisions that may apply.

Examples of safety equipment can be: •

Safety windscreens of polycarbonate and / or protective grilles on the driver's cab. Safety windscreens are to be used if the crane is equipped with an attachment that incorporates some form of saw.

•

Protection against falling objects.

•

Protection around pressurised hydraulic lines.

•

Warning signs e.g. risk zone distance. The risk zone distance must be at least 70 metres if the crane is equipped with an attachment that incorporates some form of saw. In addition, the warning sign must be of a size that it can be read from the risk zone distance.

•

Other safety details can come into question.

Also note that it should be easy to carry out service on the machine and that the crane is well secured to the vehicle. Steps should also be safe to use.

4 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS Connection standard The crane's connection standard refers to the type of threads and seals used on the hydraulic hose couplings.

The crane is equipped with UNF threaded nipples, pipes and hose couplings with connectors according to the JICstandard. Connections on oil pipes are made using TrippleLok type couplings, which is a three part original design with a coupling body, nut, and compression sleeve that joins pipes with a 74 degree flare.

Pipes and hoses The hydraulic hoses are of a high pressure type. The hose dimensions are adapted to respective hydraulic functions and pressure levels and are equipped with crimped hose couplings.

The oil pipe consists of cold-drawn, precision steel pipe with strength according to applicable standards for hydraulic equipment. Maximum permitted working pressure for pipes is 25 MPa (250 bar)

Slewing motor The slewing motor housing is cast using spheroidal graphite cast iron. The crane pillar is carried in a heavy-duty bushing in the top of the housing and by a spherical roller bearing in the lower part of the housing. The roller bearing lies in an oil bath while the bushing is lubricated with grease.

The forces from the slewing housing are transferred via double gear racks to the gear drive located on the lower section of the crane pillar. The gear racks are carried in the housing by internal support lugs and they work in an oil bath.

Boom system The boom system is built up of the main boom, outer boom and telescopic boom. The boom components are manufactured of high-tensile steel plate and are dimensioned for the flexural and torsional stresses that the boom system is normally subjected to.

Main boom The main boom is designed using a high and narrow box section, tapering towards the front, which creates a structure with uniform strength and a low weight.

Single telescopic outer boom The outer boom is manufactured of pressed section in which the telescopic boom runs. The hydraulic pipes for the rotator and grapple are routed, well protected on top of the outer boom.

The telescopic boom is manufactured of pressed sections in a high tensile material. It is carried in the outer boom by slide plates made of a lubrication-free, low friction material. The plates are located in removable holders around the sides on the front edge of the outer boom and in permanent frames on the rear edge of the telescopic boom. A large distance between the support points gives low forces on the slide plates and through this low wear. The telescopic cylinder can be removed through the front end of the telescopic tube, without the need of removing the telescopic boom.

The difference between the telescopic boom in DT or Combi designs The difference between the two designs of the double extension outer booms is that the outer boom in the DT design has external hose routing and the outer boom in the Combi design has protected hose routing inside the telescopic booms.

Double extension outer boom on FC45, FC53 (DT) The outer boom casing that supports the boom system is built-up of a rectangular section, which gives a compact double extension outer boom. The two telescopic booms are manufactured of high-tensile steel sections. The telescopic booms are mounted in the outer boom with slide plates of a low friction material. The slide plates must not be lubricated.

Double extension outer boom (Combi outer boom) The outer boom casing that supports the boom system is built-up of a rectangular section, which gives a compact double extension outer boom. The two telescopic booms are manufactured of high-tensile steel sections. The telescopic booms are mounted in the outer boom with slide plates of a low friction material. The slide plates must not be lubricated.

Operating the telescopic booms, Combi outer boom The telescopic cylinder, which is mounted in the outer boom casing, powers the forward and backward motion of the outer telescopic boom. The outer telescopic boom in turn powers the inner telescopic boom with the help of two chains, Fleyer chains, that are attached to the rear edge of the inner telescopic boom. The front chain runs from the front mounting on the outer boom, over an idler sprocket on the outer telescopic boom and on back to the rear edge of the inner telescopic boom.

The rear chain runs from the mounting on the outer boom, backwards over an idler sprocket on the rear edge of the outer telescopic boom to the rear edge of the inner telescopic boom. When the telescopic cylinder powers the outer telescopic boom forwards, the front chain draws out the inner boom. When the telescopic cylinder powers the outer telescopic boom inwards, the rear chain draws in the inner boom.

Hose routing on the Combi outer boom The hose routing on the Combi outer boom is designed so that the hoses follow the same route and movement as the rear fleyer chain. That is to say, the hoses run from the fixed outer boom casing over the idler sprocket at the rear of the outermost telescopic boom and then in to the rear section of the inner telescopic boom. Here they are coupled to the hydraulic pipe that runs up to the nose of the crane. The hoses are constantly tensioned, irrespective of the position of the telescopic booms, and no coils can occur. The system gives very well-protected hose routing.

Hydraulic cylinders All hydraulic cylinders, apart from the slewing system’s cylinders, are of the double acting type. However, the lift cylinder only has a single-acting function as the dead weight of the boom system provides the energy required for the lowering movement.

The cylinders are built for a long life through the selection of high-quality materials and a robust design. Cylinder tubes and piston rods are machined to a high surface smoothness. The piston rods have a hard, polished chromium plated finished.

Rotator The crane is supplied as standard with a standard rotator. Other rotators may be used, depending on the performance demands and type of timber handling.

The GV rotator is a full-circle slewing rotator of the wing type with characteristics that make it ideal for all cranes within professional forestry management. Distinctive characteristics are low build height, high torque and a low weight.

The oil supply to the grapple’s cylinder is fed through channels in the rotator shaft.

The connections are placed in the end of the rotator shaft, which means the hydraulic hoses on the grapple cylinder are well protected.

The rotator is also equipped with protection on the hose connections.

Different linkage systems for mounting the rotators can be found, depending on the type of rotator and application.

Grapple Various sizes of grapple can be used on the crane, depending on the size of timber and handling methods.

Hydraulic system For maximal life span and performance, the cleanliness of the oil must correspond to ISO standard 17/13 or better (ISO 4406). In general the hydraulic system must be clean.

Hydraulic oil We recommend oil with properties that conform to the demands set out in the Swedish Standard for the hydraulic oils SS15 54 34. This standard takes up conventional hydraulic oils with a mineral oil base and biological degradable hydraulic oils that conform to the standard and stringent environment demands.

Control valve for the crane In order to attain the right control valve, the bodybuilder must be fully aware of the type of hydraulic system that the vehicle is equipped with. There are two main types of hydraulic system which are described below. Within the main types are also a number of variants that are not described here.

Open centre system (constant pressure) An open centre system consists of a pump with a fixed displacement and a control valve.

The system works so that the entire pump flow runs from the pump and through the inlet section on the valve. The flow, needed at the time for one or more functions, is taken from the inlet side.

The advantages of this system is that a simple pump can be used, but the disadvantages are that the entire pump flow is constantly pumped around the system with the side-effects of heat production and power losses. These disadvantages are strengthened with increased displacement on the pump.

Closed centre (LS system) A closed centre system consists of a pump with a variable displacement and a control valve with the LS function.

The system works so that there is only a control pressure (difference pressure) in the system and the flow is very close to zero when no functions are active.

When one or more functions are activated, the valve sends a load signal (LS-line hydraulics) to the pump's governor that now pumps the flow demanded by the LS signal.

The advantages of this system is that only the amount of oil required is pumped around the system and that a large variable pump can be used to temporarily supply a very large flow.

Starting the hydraulic system Once connected to the hydraulic system the crane's hydraulic cylinders should be bled by running the cylinders to their end positions a few times. Check that the crane functions respond according to the joystick order from the driver’s seat.

Also check that the working pressure is correct.

Also check that the slewing motor is filled with oil, that no joysticks jam, that the hydraulic system in its entirety is cleaned properly before oil is filled and topped up when necessary.

5 SIGNS The following warning and information signs are of extreme importance for the safe handling of the crane.

Ensure the signs can always be read.

The load data plate is dependent on the crane model and the performance of the different cranes.

6 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS General The vehicle manufacturer’s instructions regarding add-ons should be observed before crane assembly is started.

If add-ons have previously been fitted to the vehicle, e.g. auxiliary frame, and where these are also affected by the crane assembly the instructions for these should also be observed.

Points of particular importance to consider are holes and reinforcement as well as the effects of bolted joints on frame beams.

Requisite dimensions for the crane's assembly are evident from a separate document.

A stability calculation based on the vehicle’s design, the position of the crane and performance is to be carried out before crane assembly.

Contact the vehicle manufacturer with regard to determining the stability of vehicle mounted cranes.

Assembly instructions for the hydraulic oil tanks and pumps are not included in this instruction. Please contact respective component suppliers regarding these components.

Calculation example Calculation example of the pump size. The crane has a flow requirement of 80 litres/minute and the recommended engine revs are 1000 rpm. Power take-off ratio is 1:1.5.

Note that this calculation does not take the degree of efficiency of the pump and the pump transmission into consideration. If the degree of efficiency is taken into consideration, the torque and power increase slightly.

Which pump size is necessary?

Note that you always need to check that the pump and the intended power source can handle the load and speed to avoid damage and overloading.

Hydraulic oil tank The oil volume in the hydraulic tank must be dimensioned to suit the intended oil flow. It should also be sealed so that contamination can not enter the tank. The tank's breather filter must be protected against the elements so that water and other contamination can not enter the tank. The breather filter must have the same degree of filtration as the hydraulic oil filter.

The tank also needs to be designed so that reliable bleeding of the oil is achieved. By bleeding it is meant that air mixed into the oil during usage shall have an opportunity to leave the oil in the tank.

Position the tank so that the oil level is above the pump.

Choose short and heavy-duty suction lines to avoid cavitation in the pump.

Choose heavy-duty pressure and return lines to avoid a drop in pressure and heat production. You also need to ensure that pipes and hoses are suitable for the intended area of application.

Scope of delivery The crane is assembled and tested before delivery. The crane is delivered assembled in transport packaging.

Crane mounting Crane assembly - Flat Base The crane is mounted on a mounting plate with a hole configuration as in the basic size drawing. A lifting device that can handle the intended load facilitates the assembly work. Assembly to be performed according to the following instruction.

1 The crane's assembly plane must be flat to prevent personal injury and material damage.

2 The underside of the slewing motor and the machine's mounting plate are cleaned carefully before the crane is lifted into position.

3 The M24 fastening bolts are oiled and bolted down. They are then tightened gradually to the correct torque using a torque wrench.

4 The crane's hydraulic functions are connected as set out in the hydraulic diagram.

5 A parking support must be arranged on the base machine's load carrier, so that the crane can be secured effectively during transport.

6 Place the load data plate in a fully visible location by the driver’s seat.

If there is a safety valve mounted on the slewing motor it should be drained directly to the tank. Remove the existing plug on the safety valve and connect a drainage pipe.

After connection of the hydraulic hoses and electrical cables the crane is commissioned according to the instructions in the Starting up section.

Crane assembly - Tilt Base Some crane models are available with a flat base or a tilt base. In brief, a tilt base involves the assembly of the slewing motor on a heavy-duty pivot pin and two hydraulic cylinders that are mounted between the top section of the slewing motor and the vehicle. These hydraulic cylinders must be dimensioned correctly so that they can handle the intended load. Please contact a Cranab dealer for more information about this assembly option.

Parking support A parking support must be arranged on the base machine's load carrier, so that the crane can be secured effectively during transport.

The outer boom should be manoeuvred to its innermost position when mounting the guide.

Now lower the crane boom onto the load carrier. Place the guide with an approximate 50 mm overlap on the load gate.

NOTE that base machine manufacturers should designate placement and the attachment method.

Dismantling The crane is designed and manufactured to be used for many years. If the crane is to be taken out of service and completely or partly dismantled, it must be positioned so it can not fall causing personal injury or material damage. Oils must also be dealt with in an environmentally correct fashion.

7 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Control system The crane's operating system should be designed so that the operating characteristics according to established demands are obtained. Details concerning the pressure level, flow requirements and crane times for each function can be found on a separate sheet.

A sign indicating the applicable joystick order should be fitted by the driver's seat.

Crane operation The crane can be operated using mechanical joysticks or by using different types of servo-assisted control systems on a proportionally controlled valve.

The speed of the crane functions is directly proportional to the movement of the controls, except for some systems with direct acting valves, e.g. on - off control.

The figure below shows the Swedish standard for joystick order on forestry machines.

Operating instructions The parking brake on the vehicle must be locked before work on the crane is started.

Consideration must be taken to the crane's power limitations in order to handle the load safely.

The data sheet states the maximal load that the crane can work with at a specific reach and with the crane tip level with the main boom’s rear bearing. The maximum load also presupposes that the vehicle is standing on flat ground. It is not permitted to exceed the maximum permitted load and reach while loading. Note that the data sheet states the maximum load without tools.

Should the crane’s capacity be misjudged or exceeded, the main boom or any other function that is restrictive will drop or in some other way move uncontrollably. The load must be quickly moved to within the right working area using the outer or telescopic booms in order to stop this movement. Should the vehicle lean during loading a slewing torque is transferred to the slewing motor’s gearing. If the slewing motor’s maximum slewing torque is exceeded, the crane boom will slew out uncontrollably. In the event of this happening the load should be lowered to ground level in the quickest possible way.

8 MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION This section deals with the routine maintenance and service work that can be carried out by the machine owner/driver.

Major adjustments and repairs as well as the installation of optional extras should be carried out by an authorised service organisation. Your dealer can provide further information.

On delivery the crane has been tested with regard to operation and performance. In order for the crane to function in a satisfactory manner, it must receive regular service and maintenance. Follow the instructions carefully.

Make a habit of inspecting the crane daily with regard to safety and function.

Any faults discovered must be rectified before continued use to avoid injuries to persons and material damage. In the event of uncertainty during maintenance, inspection and repairs, contact the dealer or service provider.

Pivot pin fasteners, flange joints, slewing motor mounting and hydraulic motor mountings are all important points that must be checked carefully during the inspection. Important tightening torque values are stated in a separate table.

Replace damaged hydraulic hoses and couplings. Always offload the hydraulic cylinders before dismantling hydraulic components. Mark hoses that are removed to facilitate assembly and prevent errors. When fitting new hoses, the threads on the hose coupling nut are to be lubricated before assembly.

After working on the hydraulic system it must be bled, see the section, Starting the hydraulic system.

Always carry out regular lubrication according to the instructions.

Personal protection equipment Use the protective equipment (helmet, protective shoes, gloves, protective glasses, etc.) required for the task. Gloves are necessary to protect the skin against oils and greases that are injurious to your health.

Maintenance and Inspection Only personnel trained in the operation and service of the crane may carry out service work. Service and maintenance must be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. The following applies for maintenance work: •

Observe the safety instructions issued by the base machine manufacturer, among other things, that the machine must be parked on a flat service during servicing, wheels must be chocked using chocks if necessary, etc.

•

All lifting devices must conform to national provisions for lifting equipment.

•

Avoid climbing on the machine if possible. Use the machine’s ladders, where fitted, which are fitted with anti-slip protection. Approved platforms should be used during maintenance for all high work.

•

Oils and grease are hazardous to health. Protect your skin with gloves and other appropriate clothing. Protect your eyes with protective glasses.

•

When cleaning using compressed air or water: Note the risks of splashing particles and chemicals! Wear protective gloves and tight fitting protective glasses.

•

Avoid breathing the fumes from hydraulic oil, especially hot oil. Wash skin exposed to oil spillage. Change any clothes with oil stains.

•

Never wear jewellery or loose objects while working.

•

When starting after changing the hydraulic oil, air in the hydraulic system can result in crane movement that is difficult to control. Check that no one is present in the crane’s risk zone.

•

Observe the risks that hydraulic hoses, electrical wiring, etc. can be damaged when drilling, welding, etc. Always check hoses and wiring after repair work.

•

Inspection and maintenance work performed correctly can also involve risks.

Consequently, demand training, the correct tools, any lifting devices, etc., necessary for the task. Replace substandard tools and other equipment that do not meet demands.

•

A first aid box with suitable supplies should be available and kept well stocked.

Boom system The crane's boom system must be visually inspected every day to identify damage, wear on bushings and static bearing seatings and as well as any other damage.

Single telescopic outer boom The telescopic boom is mounted in the outer boom using slide blocks.

Normal wear results in play between the booms' bearing points and these must be checked regularly. Play exceeding 2 mm on the front edge of the booms must be rectified. Contact your service provider.

Double extension outer boom and Combi outer boom NOTE! During service and repair work the telescopic booms must be locked, rest on a solid surface or in any other way be secured so that they do not move uncontrollably and cause personal injury or material damage.

The telescopic booms are mounted in the outer boom by means of slide blocks.

Normal wear means that the play between the outer boom and telescopic booms must be checked regularly.

Inspection and adjustment of the slide blocks The slide blocks for the sides of the telescopic booms are checked according to the following: 1 Run out the telescopic booms approx. 0.5-1 metres.

2 Lower the grapple onto the ground to offload the crane.

3 Press the telescopic booms sideways using a crowbar.

4 Measure the play between the slide plate and telescopic boom using a feeler gauge, the play should be 0.5 - 1.0 mm.

5 Adjust the play by placing shims between the slide block holder and the slide block.

NOTE! Adjust both sides equally in order to ensure that the telescopic booms run in parallel.

The slide blocks for the top and undersides of the telescopic booms are checked and adjusted as follows.

1 Run out the telescopic booms approx. 1-2 metres.

2 Measure the play between the slide blocks and the top of the telescopic booms using a feeler gauge, the play should be 0 - 0.5 mm.

3 Adjust the play by placing shims between the slide block holder and the slide block.

Checks for wear at the rear edges of the telescopic booms can be made when the booms are fully retracted.

1 Run in the booms to their innermost positions.

2 Open the protective cover at the rear of the outer boom.

3 Press the telescopic booms vertically and horizontally with a crowbar.

4 Measure the play between the slide block and the telescopic boom with a feeler gauge. The play must be 0.5-1.0 mm The telescopic booms' rear slide blocks can not be adjusted or replaced without first dismantling the booms.

Play in excess of 2 mm at any of the boom system's measurement points must be rectified. Contact your service workshop to rectify this.

Replacing the slide blocks on the rear edge of the telescopic booms The telescopic booms' rear slide blocks can not be adjusted or replaced without first dismantling the booms.

1 Dismantle the rotator, rotator link, hoses and any electrical cables in the nose of the crane.

2 Lower the outer boom on to a flat, horizontal surface.

3 Remove the hoses from the outer telescopic boom's hose holder and the hoses between the inner and outer telescopic booms, pos 1.

4 Run out the telescopic cylinder 200 mm. Remove the telescopic cylinder's pivot pin, pos 2, the outer boom's slide block holder, pos 3, the chain mounting's securing bolts, pos 4 and the front chain by the adjuster screw, pos 5.

5 NOTE! If the outer boom is not positioned horizontally there is a risk that the telescopic boom can slide out uncontrollably when the chains are removed.

6 Pull out the outer telescopic boom.

7 Remove the idler sprocket from the telescopic arm, pos 6, and the slide block holder, pos 7.

8 Remove the rear chain at the rear edge of the inner telescopic boom, pos 8.

9 Pull out the inner telescopic boom.

10 Change and adjust the telescopic boom's slide blocks. The maximum permitted tolerance between the slide block and boom is 0.5 mm. NOTE! Adjust both facing sides equally in order to ensure that the telescopic booms run in parallel.

11 Refit the telescopic booms, hoses and adjust the chains.

Chain adjustment In order to avoid unnecessary loads on the chains and chain mounting, the chain tension needs to be checked and adjusted regularly.

Check and adjust the chain tension as follows.

1 Run out the telescopic booms to maximum reach.

2 Run in the telescopic booms a 10-20 cm so that the rear chain is tensioned.

3 Tension the chains in the chain tensioner by the front edge of the outer boom casing. NOTE! Adjust both chains equally. The chain tension needs to be adjusted so that the front chain does not hang down against the underlying inner boom, but not so tight that it can not be pressed down to this position by hand.

4 The chains must not be adjusted so that any of the booms collide with any of the slide block holders.

Checking chain wear The chains need to be checked regularly with regard to wear and corrosion. The “active section” of the chain, i.e. the section that runs over the idler sprocket is exposed to the greatest wear and stretches the most in this area. The maximum permitted wear on the active section is 2 %. The chain pitch is ¾". When making a control measurement, which is suitably made over 21 rivets, the c-c measurement between the centres of the outermost rivets must not exceed 389 mm. Note that the chain must be adjusted correctly when measuring.

Replacing chains Rear chain The chain mounting on the rear edge of the inner telescopic boom is accessible from the outside when the telescopic boom is retracted to its innermost position.

1 Lower the outer boom on to a solid surface. Offload the grapple and rotator.

2 Move the oil pipe and hoses to one side at the rear edge of the outer boom.

Remove the protective cover, pos 1. Remove the chain and connect the new chain with the old chain, pos 2. Alternatively, the chains can be tied together using e.g. steel wire or strong string.

3 NOTE! If the outer boom is not positioned horizontally there is a risk that the telescopic boom can slide out uncontrollably when the chain is removed.

4 Run out the telescopic cylinder about 150 mm.

5 Remove the front chain's adjuster screw, pos 3.

6 Remove the front chain mounting and chain, pos 4. Pull through the new chain, pos 5.

7 Refit and adjust the chains.

1 Lower the outer boom on to a solid surface. Offload the grapple and rotator.

6 Loosen the idler sprocket, pos 4 and slide block holder, pos 5, on the front of the outer telescopic boom. Pull the inner boom out so that the boom's chain mounting becomes accessible.

7 Replace the chain, refit the telescopic boom and adjust the chains.

Adjusting and replacing hoses in the Combi outer boom The telescopic booms must be fully retracted when inspecting and adjusting the hoses.

Hose tension is set using the adjustment device located in the coupling block on the outer boom casing where the hoses between the telescopic boom and outer boom are connected together. The hoses must be tensioned so that they do not hang down against the inner telescopic boom. Check the slackness by opening the protective cover at the rear of the outer boom.

When replacing hoses the following system can be applied: 1 Run in the telescopic booms to their innermost positions.

2 Remove the hose protection plates on the sides of the outer boom. Separate and dismantle the hoses' coupling blocks from the hose tensioners.

3 Dismantle the hoses in question by the coupling block on the outer boom casing.

4 Open the protective cover at the rear of the outer boom. Dismantle the hoses in question from the hydraulic pipes. Connect together the new and old hoses.

Now pull through the new hoses.

5 Refit and tension the hoses.

Slewing motor The upper slide bearing on the slewing housing should be lubricated regularly.

NOTE! Do not pump too much grease into each lubrication point. A suitable amount of grease is obtained after 2 to 3 pump strokes using a lever grease gun.

The slewing motor’s lower bearing and gearing both work in an oil bath. Check the oil level daily. The base plate is equipped with a plug for oil drainage. Use Hypoid oil SAE80/W90 when filling. The level and filling plug is located on the neck of the slewing motor between the slewing cylinders. There is a ventilation nipple located on the opposite side to compensate for any level variations in the slewing motor housing. This function must not be blocked.

The slewing motor’s slewing speed must not be changed without special consent.

Note that the oil should be changed for the first time after 250 hours of operation.

Then after 1000 hours or annually.

Rotator/Grapple The rotator link’s pivot pin fasteners and bearing seatings should be checked and lubricated regularly.

The union between the rotator and grapple should be checked regularly.

The swing damper’s brake lining should be inspected regularly and adjusted when necessary.

Also refer to the supplier's instructions for appropriate intervals and method.

Hydraulic hoses The hose dimensions are adapted to respective hydraulic functions and are equipped with crimped house couplings. Consequently, the hydraulic hose dimensions must not be changed.

Hydraulic hoses with the dimensions 3/8", and ½" are high pressure hoses with double steel wire braid reinforcement as set out in SAE 100 R2T. The table below states the minimum working and bursting pressure values for all applicable hose dimensions.

** The Comb outer boom's inner hydraulic hoses are of a thermoplastic type. The hose must be built up of a polyester plastic inner tube, a layer of steel reinforcement and an outer casing of polyurethane.

Hoses must be test loaded with 50 % of the bursting pressure during manufacture.

The hose couplings and connection nipples must be dimensioned for at least triple safety. (Three times the working pressure)

Hydraulic system The hydraulic system, to which the crane is connected, must under all circumstances be fitted with effective return oil filters.

The filters are to be replaced first after 25 operating hours, then at least after every 1000 hours of operation, or according to the vehicle manufacturer’s instructions if shorter intervals are stated. Follow the machine manufacturer’s instructions regarding filter replacement.

The hydraulic oil is to be replaced after every 2000 hours or annually or according to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations, if the vehicle’s ordinary hydraulic system is used.

Check that the air filter on the hydraulic tank is not clogged and that water cannot enter.

Remember that a clean hydraulic system always guarantees the best operating reliability. Always keep the workplace clean when working on the hydraulic system.

Cotton waste or other fluffy material must not be used for cleaning.

Air in the hydraulic system can cause a diesel effect. A gas ignition in a cylinder will then cause damage to among others the seals. Carefully bleed the hydraulic system after working it. Bleed the cylinders by carefully running each cylinder to its end positions. Extra care should be taken when running the slewing functions. Should the vehicle lean, the crane boom can slew uncontrollably if there is air in the slewing cylinders.

Checking the function of the hydraulic system There must be a free area of 20 metres around the crane when testing operations.

Only the operator may remain in this area while operations are tested.

A pressure gauge graduated 0-25 MPa is needed to check the operation of the hydraulic system. The gauge ought to be dampened and equipped with a long hose so that it is easy to read off from the driver's cab.

The pressure gauge should be connected to the control valve's pressure outlet. The oil should reach normal operating temperature and the engine and pump should work at normal working speed when checking the oil pressure.

The control valves are equipped with insert pressure relief valves to both control the system pressure and surge pressure. The pressure limiter for the system pressure can also be adjustable. The setting values for the valves are shown in the hydraulic diagram and pressure chart. If the pressure lies outside of these values the insert must be replaced or adjusted.

The working pressure is read off by running the function grapple close towards its end position.

All functions are run out to the end positions when testing operations. At the same time check that no abnormal noise can be heard. Also check that the hydraulic hoses run freely and are not damaged.

Hydraulic oils Great demands are made on hydraulic oil, which is the component that transmits power in a hydraulic system, so that the hydraulic system produces the best possible degree of efficiency and service life. Oil primarily intended for equipment to be used outdoors should work within a wide temperature area. Oil should contain additives that counteract oxidation, corrosion and frothing, improve film strength and reduce the viscosity's dependence on temperature.

We recommend oil that conforms to demands as set out in the Swedish Standard for hydraulic oils, SS 155434. Remember to choose an oil designed for the temperature range that the machine shall work in.

Check with the pump and other component suppliers that the chosen oil is approved before it is used.

Spare parts Always state the crane's serial number when ordering spare parts and with contact with your dealer. Only use Cranab original parts.

Maintenance and Inspection The following applies with all maintenance work on the crane: •

Park the crane.

•

Always offload the hydraulic cylinders before dismantling hydraulic couplings.

•

Switch off the engine, shutoff the main electrical power, and remove the ignition key.

Welding Any repair work on the crane that requires welding should be carried out by the dealer or according to his instructions. Also observe the machine manufacturer's directives for welding.

•

The following measures should be taken during welding work:

•

Ensure that fire extinguishing equipment is close at hand.

•

ALWAYS remove the earth cable to the vehicle's batteries.

•

Clean around the weld area to eliminate any risk of fire. Clean at least 10 cm around the weld area. Paint that is heated gives off health-impairing gases.

•

Consult the manufacturer of the vehicle about any other actions that may be necessary to take BEFORE welding to avoid damage to e.g. the electronic control units, alternators or the like.

•

Connect the return cable so that the welding current does not pass through any bearings.

•

Place the return cable as close to the weld area as possible.

Cleaning When cleaning, bearings, seals, the insulation sheath on electric cables, etc can be damaged even at moderate pressure and temperatures. Exercise great care when using a high pressure washer.

Waste Use a collection tray when changing the hydraulic oil. Waste such as hydraulic oil, hoses and the like should also be set aside for recycling and destruction.

Use a fully filling grease appropriate for heavy loaded and/or shock-loaded bearings.

Hypoid oil according to API: GL-5, MIL-L-2105 C, SAE80W90. The oil is changed for the first time after 250 hours of operation. Then at intervals according to the chart.

NOTE! Lubricate carefully before commissioning a new crane. Should the lubrication ducts in e.g. a pivot pin become blocked so that the grease will not go in, immediately stop all further operations.

Remove the pivot pin and clean the lubrication duct. No refit the pivot pin and lubricate as shown in the diagram. A turning stop for a pivot pin must always function to prevent damage.

9 CRANE TIMES The crane must be equipped with the rotator and grapple when measuring. When setting and checking crane times the hydraulic oil must be heated to at least 40°C. Measurements are made with the crane unloaded and at normal engine revs. The data stated below should be seen as guide values.

1 The bolted joint, M24 for the slewing motor, requires washers with a minimum hardness of 200 Brinell Tightening torque applies to bolts in strength grade 8.8 unless otherwise stated.

Threads must be lubricated when tightening. Tightening torque in kpm is obtained by dividing the torque in Nm by 10.

Ensure that the bolted joints (bolt, nut and washer) are intended for the tightening torque and load in question.
