3.5 Important notice on putting the machine into operation

Operating staff

Running-in period

• The machine may be put into service by instructed and authorised staff only –see chapter1 “Driving licence” on page1-8 and “Selection and qualification of staff, basic responsibilities” on page2-5 of this Operator's Manual • The operating staff must have read and understood this Operator's Manual before putting the machine into operation • Only use the steps and handles when entering and leaving the cab • Face the machine as you enter and leave it • Never use the controls or movable lines and cables as handles • Keep the footholds and the handles clean to ensure a safe hold at all times; immediately remove dirt, such as oil, grease, earth, snow or ice • The machine may be put into operation only when the driver is seated • Fasten the seat belt (lap belt) • Never get on or off a moving machine! Never jump off the machine • Before leaving the machine, lower the telescopic boom, stop the diesel engine, remove the ignition key and apply the parking brake

• Carrying or transporting accompanying persons in the cab and/or on the telehandler is not allowed

• The machine may only be used in technically perfect condition in accordance with its designated use and the instructions set forth in the Operator's Manual, and only by persons who are fully aware of the risks involved in operating the machine

• Always observe the warning and information labels, and the load diagrams (e.g. pallet forks) of the telescopic boom

• Immediately replace (or have replaced) damaged or illegible warning and information labels with new ones • Bear in mind the checklists on the following pages ➥–see“Diesel engine start” checklist on page3-11 ➥–seeChecklist “Putting the machine into service” on page3-12 ➥–see“Parking” checklist on page3-12

Handle the machine carefully during its first 100 operating hours.

• Do not load a cold diesel engine ➥Let the diesel engine warm up at low engine speed (1/4 throttle) for about 30 seconds • Avoid loading the diesel engine at idling speed • Do not run the diesel engine at high speed for extended periods • Increase the load gradually while varying the diesel engine speed ➥Full drive speed (machine dynamics) is reached as soon as the temperature of the drive reaches 20 – 30 °C • Strictly observe maintenance schedules and carry out (or have carried out) the specified maintenance work –see chapter5 “Maintenance plan (overview)” on page5-50
