Starting the engines
Start and operate combustion engines only on well-ventilated premises;
In closed rooms, exhaust gases must be evacuated to the outside.

Do not work on the exhaust system an do not make any modifications to it; Exhaust gases from diesel engines and some of their constituents may cause cancer, birth defects and other reproductive harm.

Ü Turn engine speed control (56 and 66, Fig. 2-61:) to the left against the limit stop (idling speed). Ü Insert the key into the key-switch (32) and turn clockwise. Start the engines one after the other.

All control levers and pedals must be in position "0".
Ü Activate the EMERGENCY SHUT-OFF buttons (31, Fig. 2-61:, 2, Fig. 2-62: and 4, Fig. 2-63:).

The engine starts up only after the lubricating pressure has built up in the engine. An acoustic warning signals sounds. Ü Press button (52) for the lefthand engine. Release button (52) as soon as the engine has fired. Ü Press button (62) for the righthand engine. Release button (62) as soon as the engine has fired.
