4) Tighten locknut (C, fig. F) until it touches the face of the transmission housing, so that piston (S) is prevented from going back. Under this condition the machine is not braked on one side only.

Repeat the operation from 2 through 4 on the opposite side, as well.

- Once both brakes are disengaged, the machine can be towed.

TOWING THE MACHINE

Prior to the towing, make sure that the cable or the towing bar are in good conditions and are strong enough for the towing. Use a cable or a towing bar having a capacity of at least 1.5 times the gross mass of the pulling machine, in the event a disabled machine stuck in mud must be recovered or must be towed on a slope. When towing, connect the towing cable to the prescribed points on the fame only, if installed. These towing instructions are intended to move a machine incapable of moving on its own a short distance at slow speed. Pull the machine at a speed of 2 kmph (1.25 mph) or lower toward a place suitable for the repair operation. Always transport the machine by hauling, if a longer distance becomes necessary.

Do not use chains for towing. A link of the chain could snap, causing personal injuries. Use a steel cable with eyes at the ends. Place a flagman in a safe position to stop the towing operation in the event the cable starts breaking or fraying.

Keep the angle of the towing cable at a minimum. Do not exceed a deviation angle of 30 ° from a straight position. A sudden movement of the machine could overload the cable or the towing bar. causing its failure. For better working conditions, move gradually and smoothly.

Normally, the towing machine must have the same characteristics of the machine on-tow. Check that the towing machine has a sufficient mass and power, capable of controlling both machines in relation to the slope and distance to be travelled. To allow a sufficient control and braking, when moving a machine down a slope, it could be necessary a larger machine or connecting other machines to the rear part, to avoid uncontrolled movements.

It is not possible to provide instructions for different situations. The minimum capacity of the towing machine is sufficient for flat surfaces whereas the maximum one is required on gradients or rough terrain.
