I. Selector Shaft Nut

A. Inspect the park pawl contact faces for cracks, step wear, impact damage and signs of battering. Inspect the park pawl pivot bore for burrs, nicks, scoring and out-ofround. Replace the park pawl if any damage is detected. B. Inspect the park pawl support pin for burrs, nicks, scoring and grooves. Replace the pin if it doesn’t fit securely in the rear cover or main housing or if it has damage which cannot be repaired using a soft stone or crocus cloth.

C. Inspect the park pawl return spring for damaged coils. Replace the spring if it has any signs of

damage or if it does not quickly recoil when released.
D. Inspect the apply guide for grooves, scoring and deformities. Replace the guide if damage cannot be repaired using a soft stone or crocus cloth.

Slots Indexing Tang Inspect the apply assembly spring rollers and indexing tang.

E. Inspect the slotted end of the apply assembly for burrs, chips and cracks. Inspect the indexing tang for cracks and burrs. Inspect the spring for bent, cracked or broken coils. Inspect the rollers for scoring, burrs and pitting. The rollers should fit securely in the retainer and should roll freely without binding or sticking. Replace the assembly if damage cannot be repaired using a soft stone or crocus cloth.

F. Inspect the selector shaft for burrs, chips and cracks. Inspect the shaft flats for chips, burrs and nicks. Inspect the shaft threads for stripping and damage. Replace the selector shaft if damage cannot be repaired using a soft stone or crocus cloth, or if the shaft is bent. NOTE: Burrs or raised metal on the selector shaft flats (where the selector lever seats) may cause damage to the NSBU switch and selector seal if not removed or repaired. G. Inspect the detent lever slots for burrs, chips and cracks. Inspect the detent teeth for impact damage, step wear, bends and cracks. Replace the detent lever if damage cannot be repaired using a soft stone or crocus cloth. H. Inspect the spherical pin for nicks, burrs and deformities. Replace the pin if it is bent or if it has damage which cannot be repaired using a soft stone or crocus cloth.

I. Inspect the selector shaft nut threads for stripping and damage. Inspect the nut shoulder for burrs and deformities which might prevent proper seating. Replace the nut if damage cannot be repaired using a soft stone or crocus cloth.
