4.12 Porsche Torque Vectoring
The 911 Carrera S is equipped with PTV/PTV Plus as standard. PTV/PTV Plus is offered as an option for the 911 Carrera. PTV includes a mechanical rear differential lock with an asymmetric action (22% traction, 27% deceleration) and is always offered in combination with the standard 7-speed manual transmission. PTV Plus includes a fully variable electronic rear differential lock and is always offered in combination with PDK.
Unlike the previous models, in which only one locking differential was offered to additionally support the driving dynamics, Porsche Torque Vectoring/Plus (PTV/PTV Plus) now provides a much improved product feature for all transmission variants.
PTV/PTV Plus mainly improves the steering behavior and steering precision of the vehicle when driving very dynamically by selectively braking the rear right or rear left wheel. PTV/PTV Plus offers distinct advantages, particularly when steering into a bend. Selective braking is applied on the inside rear wheel as soon as the steering is turned. This gives the outside rear wheel higher drive torque in comparison with the inside wheel. This difference in torque gives the vehicle a yawing moment that also supports the steering angle of the vehicle. The braking interventions for PTV/PTV Plus are also active when Porsche Stability Management is deactivated (PSM OFF). With regard to agility and steering precision, the active braking interventions offer advantages at low and mid-range speeds (up to approx. 100 mph/160 km/h). At higher speeds, PTV/PTV Plus and the rear differential lock offer additional driving stability, in addition to advantages of driving dynamics.
