Happy Fall! I hope everyone had a great summer and I think we all are looking forward to some cooler weather.
Hermann Sons Life has been working closely with a trusted partner to develop an electronic application system for our annuity products. We are in the final testing stage and can’t wait to share this new tool with our agents.
Once launched, we will begin the process of expanding our e-Application capability even further. This project has taken a great deal of planning and effort, but we are confident it will
save our customers valuable time and make the entire application process easier and more efficient.

That is why our dedicated team of licensed agents is here to guide you through your options, explain plan benefits in plain language, and help you make confident decisions about your health coverage.
But our commitment to your well-being does not stop with Medicare. Retirement security is just as important as health-
care, and we want to help our members plan for the future they deserve. Our Multi-Year Guaranteed Annuities (MYGAs) offer guaranteed interest rates currently ranging from 4.85% to 5.4%. Our annuities are a safe, predictable way to grow your savings and supplement your retirement income.

President's Message
We are more than just an organization, we are family
By ROBIN CZARNEK President and CEO
The tragic events of September have left a lasting mark on us all. It’s difficult to comprehend how hearts can become so hardened that they are capable of carrying out such horrific acts. In reflecting on these events, I am reminded of how truly blessed we are to be a part of Hermann Sons Life and to belong to an organization where compassion and a spirit of community shine through, even in the darkest times.
Every day, so many of our members and lodges exemplify the true meaning of fraternalism by helping one another, preserving our history of community service and working to strengthen the bonds that unite us.
Across Texas, countless stories unfold quietly, reflecting the heart of our mission. While there are far too many to share, here are just a few of the recent examples of the impact Hermann Sons Life’s members and lodges make:
After months of dedication and hard work, Karnes City Lodge
recently celebrated its grand reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, unveiling its beautifully renovated lodge hall and honoring the hard work of legacy members Vernon and Henrietta Fenner. Inside their lodge hall, members have proudly displayed historical relics and photos that pay tribute to the lodge’s deep roots and rich legacy.
The Karnes City Lodge celebration isn’t just about preserving history, it’s also about rejuvenation. The lodge has revitalized its youth dance program, inspiring the next generation to connect with our traditions while creating new memories. This balance between honoring our past and investing in our future is what keeps Hermann Sons Life thriving.
Hermann Sons Life Gulf Lodge recently donated items to completely furnish kitchens and bathrooms for 15 new homes by Everybody’s Place – Agape Village in Galveston County. The homes will house families who are experiencing homelessness.
ATTENTION LODGES!
Lodges who would like to have a Home Office representative attend its Christmas party should contact the Member Benefits Department by calling 210-226-9261, ext. 238. The deadline to be added to the holiday schedule is Friday, Oct. 31, 2025.
Lodge Reports
Once the homes are complete, the lodge also plans to furnish bedding.
This spirit of generosity is at the core of what it means to be part of a fraternal organization. It’s not just about belonging to a lodge, it’s about being there for one another when it matters most.
Gulf Lodge’s efforts reflect the quiet generosity seen in so many of our members during times of crisis.
Harmonia Lodge is gathering together for an Oktoberfest celebration. As a part of the celebration, they are raising funds for Kerry County Flood Relief. Harmonia’s Oktoberfest is scheduled for Oct. 9. To contribute to Harmonia’s flood relief efforts, please reach out to Brad Dietrich at: brad.dietrich@yahoo.com.
Fraternalism isn’t measured in years, but in lives touched and traditions shared. Few embody this better than Mary Ann Pintaric, a 104-year-old member of Vineta Lodge who has been part of Hermann Sons Life for an incredible 87 years.
SAN ANTONIO – New content and a new format is coming to the Hermann Sons Life Newspaper in 2026.
In preparation, HSL invites all members to share their stories!
Did a HSL policy make a difference in your life? Does your HSL membership go back generations? Do you have fond memories of lodge meetings, camp or dance? We’d love for you to share them with us.
Mary Ann has lived through so much history, volunteered in countless ways, and shared heartwarming stories about what Hermann Sons Life has meant to her and her family. Her journey is a living testament to the power of community, the lasting bonds we create through our lodges and the tremendous impact we make in helping others.
These are just a few of the many stories happening every day within our organization. From grand celebrations to quiet acts of kindness, Hermann Sons Life thrives because of you—our members, lodges, and volunteers who give so generously of your time, talents, and hearts.
As we reflect on recent events, we are reminded of the true strength of our community. Whether it’s rebuilding, comforting, teaching, or celebrating, our members step up without hesitation.
We are more than an organization.
We are family. Together, we make a difference.
Are you famous? Let us know! Submit to Communications Director/Editor Elaine Soto at elaines@hermannsonslife.org or mail to Communications Department, P.O. Box 1941, San Antonio, Texas 78297.

Shriners Children’s provides specialized pediatric care
GALVESTON – Located just blocks away from the beautiful beaches of the Texas Gulf Coast, Shriners Children’s Texas, a non-profit hospital, stands as a beacon of hope and healing for pediatric patients and families often facing serious medical challenges. For almost 60 years, the hospital has provided advanced, specialized and compassionate care for children with acute burn injuries; and more recently added services for children facing complex orthopedic conditions and cleft lip and palate.
In addition to offering expert surgical and rehabilitative care, the hospital’s orthopedic service line also includes technological assistance from their Motion Analysis Center. Known as the MAC, this innovative lab provides a high level of information about a patient’s current range of motion that can be used to drive more effective treatment decisions for children with a wide range of conditions.
Use of this technology is one example of how Shriners Children’s provides the most amazing care anywhere, regardless of the family’s ability to pay. Not

SAN ANTONIO – Last month we discussed Original Medicare, which is made up of two Parts, Part A and Part B; and this month we’ll cover Parts C and D; and Medicare Supplements.
Remember from last month’s article, Original Medicare does not cover everything, plus there are deductibles and coinsurance for services under Parts A and B. The majority of people with Original Medicare purchase additional coverage to help reduce their out-of-pocket costs.
There are two “paths” you can take for additional coverage.
Making a Decision
Which “path” should you choose?
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all when it comes to choosing a Medicare Plan; it depends on your individual needs. That's why it’s best to work with a licensed insurance agent you trust; he/she represents multiple carriers and is trained to help you compare Medicare wPlans and help you find the plan that will best meet your needs. It’s also best to review your Plan every year during the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15-Dec. 7) as your needs may change and Plans change. Make sure you do a Plan review with a licensed agent to ensure you know about all the changes to Plans and make an informed decision about your health coverage.

Benefits:
● Medicare Advantage plans cover all the benefits covered under Part A & B of Original Medicare

Results are in – first coed camp season a success! Camp
By IAN BRASSETT Executive Camp Director
Greetings from Comfort!
The summer of 2025 was extraordinary for so many reasons. This was the first summer that Hermann Sons Life Camp was a completely COED summer camp experience for our campers. Planning for the summer, my job was to create a blend of traditional and new fun and exciting activities for all campers.
Knowing that the camp would feel different, the concern I think we ALL HAD was how would the campers react to this new camp program with boys and girls together.
Every Friday since 2019, we have surveyed the campers and have asked the same questions. After re-reading the surveys, I was amazed and genuinely pleased at how much the campers loved the new program.
Survey results:
Apart from the food, all the scores were better than previous summers.
Food is always tricky. It doesn’t matter what I serve, the statement you can’t please everyone comes to mind. Three of the meals that were the campers’ favorite, spaghetti, Chinese and pizza were also found on the campers’ least favorite food list. The food we serve was consistently good. We always have pb&j at every meal, fresh whole fruit (apples, oranges, bananas, peaches and plums) and a complete salad bar at every lunch and dinner.
The score I’m most pleased with was the counselors’ scores. The counselors averaged 4.79/5 which was amazing. The kiddos really loved their counselors this summer.
See CAMP, Pg. 9
Camp
Camp session schedule for 2026 released
Cont’d from Pg. 8
The new coed program, the pre-camp online training program, the new traditions that we began this summer and the catastrophic flooding in the Hill Country was “not what the staff were used to.” They took it all in stride and provided the campers with a safe, caring and fun summer camp experience. When we asked the campers what their favorite part of camp was and what was their least favorite part of camp, again we got some interesting results – three items appearing on both lists. Rest period, various daily activities and after dinner activities.
When you compare these scores, I’m proud of the hard work that our staff put into providing a quality summer camp. The parent survey results backed up these results. When asked would you consider Hermann Sons Life Camp for your child again next summer?, 88% of the parents responded “absolutely” with 10% stating “yes” and 2% stating no. The parent response to all questions was higher than the averages for previous summers. We operated at 98% capacity for the entire summer for our
regular camp sessions. We had waiting lists even for sessions following the devastating flooding that affected so many of our neighboring camps. Due to enrollment demands, we will be opening up two additional weekly sessions for the summer of 2026.
The sessions for 2026 are listed in the chart. In 2026, we will again operate one coed camp. We will open camp for 7- to 14-year-olds (as of Sept. 1, 2026) and we are eliminating the mini-camp program. We have also decided to put a pause on the 10-day session next year.
Campers aged 15 (as of Sept. 1, 2026) are eligible for the CIT-1 program. We love this program! It gives our campers a taste of what it’s like to be a counselor and an opportunity for camper management classes. I will have emailed the eligible campers by the time this newspaper prints. Please let me know if you did not receive the email . CIT-1 campers are required to complete an application, interview with the executive camp director and provide two references.
We will offer the same exceptional camp experience in 2026 as we did this past summer!

Howie’s Happenings
Howie, Beau claim bed as their own
By ROBIN CZARNEK President and CEO
NEW
BRAUNFELS
– I recently attended an American Fraternal Alliance conference and was out of town for a few days. Howie and Beau saw it as their opportunity to move in and slept in my spot while I was gone. Despite Dave’s claims he doesn’t want them to, they were allowed to without much resistance. I’m pretty sure it’s all bark and no bite with Dave. Beau has decided that means he gets to sleep with us all the time now. He climbs in between us and stretches out. There’s nothing like having a nearly 90-pound dog sleep in between you for a good night’s rest.
Howie has suddenly claimed a blanket that was gifted to me from a friend years ago. He has decided it is now his pillow and bunches it up every night to
snuggle with. Their sweet faces are hard to resist, so we caved and it’s now his blanket.
The boys have had several outings to go get treats like pup cups and chicken nuggets. It is entertaining to let them know we’re about to make a trip. They absolutely lose their minds with excitement, and we have to get them calmed down so we can get them safely into the car. One of the outings was BaskinRobbins and the person helping us in the drive thru happened to show Beau a squeak toy they have for sale and made sure to show him it makes noise. It was all over then…Beau had to have it!
Howie and Beau wanted to remind you about their friend, Princess. Though this beautiful girl has already been featured, she has not found her home yet. Princess came in with her mom and three siblings at only
three weeks old. All or her siblings have been adopted, but she’s spent her whole one year of life in the shelter. She is a precious girl with such a sweet personality. She is extremely affectionate, playful and super smart. She loves giving kisses, enjoys other dogs and likes playing with toys. Though she has a mild liver shunt and needs special food, she is a normal active puppy with a lot of love to give.
If you’re interested in meeting Princess or any of the amazing other pups at HOTK9, please email hotk9rescue@yahoo.com to schedule a visit. HOTK9 is a 501(c)(3) no-kill canine shelter dedicated to rescuing pups in need. For more information or to view the amazing dogs available for adoption, visit heartoftexasspca.com or find Heart of Texas SPCA/HOTK9 Rescue on Facebook.
Howie and Beau love their outings for pup cups and chicken nuggets.
Beau has decided he prefers to sleep in Mom and Dad’s bed.
