President's Message

HSL members take Friendship, Love & Loyalty to heart

With Christmas around the corner, we have started coordinating with our team to send officers from the home office to as many lodge Christmas parties as possible We are excited to be able to see so many of you, and we are looking forward to sharing a meal and fellowship

This joyful season is a wonderful reminder of how blessed we are to be a part of such an incredible organization as Hermann Sons Life Our members embody kindness and compassion year round, but those characteristics shine even brighter this season

It is evident that our motto of Friendship, Love and Loyalty means something amongst our Hermann Sons Life family, and we can see that so many of you take it to heart through the impact you make each day

Looking ahead to the new year, we’re excited about the future of Hermann Sons Life With convention just a few months away, we’re thrilled to share the remarkable progress we’ve made and the plans to come . Despite some challenges in 2025, we are proud to report

HSL will provide desserts for Boysville Christmas party

The Home Office invites members to donate store bought cookies, brownies, cupcakes or candy. Monetary donations will also be accepted to purchase desserts. Items or monetary donations can be dropped off at the Home Office on Dec. 17 and 18 during business hours 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 515 S. St. Mary’s St. in San Antonio.

Monetary donations can also be mailed (before Dec. 15) to P.O. Box 1941, San Antonio, TX 78297-1941

Lodge Reports

that Hermann Sons Life has had an incredible year We are hard at work to ensure that Hermann Sons Life can experience another wonderful 160+ years and to grow our 501(c)3 youth foundation (HSL Youth Foundation, Inc ) so that we can continue to thrive and support the youth in our community and leave a positive impact anywhere we can

With the help of our lodges, Hermann Sons Life was able to help our neighbors that were impacted by the devastating floods in the Hill Country We were able to make a $15,000 donation to the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, a further demonstration of the generosity and compassion of our members

One of the ways we support the youth in our community in addition to the HSL Youth Foundation, Inc is through supporting TruLight127 and Boysville

Both of these amazing organizations look to provide support and homes for children dealing with difficult circumstances

You will find links to the charities mentioned at the end of this article These organizations need your help now more than ever as donations have decreased significantly in recent years

Dave and I wish that each of you have holidays filled with peace, laughter, and the company of those most dear to you

With heartfelt appreciation for all that you do to make Hermann Sons Life the incredible organization it is, we send you the warmest of Christmas wishes!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Life insurance and annuities are meaningful gifts

A Gift That Lasts

As the year winds down and many families exchange gifts, it is a good time to think about what truly brings long-term value to the people we love. While most presents are enjoyed for a season, some gifts can make a difference for decades. Life insurance and annuities are among those rare financial tools that offer lasting security, stability and peace of mind.

A Foundation of Protection Life Insurance has long been

Learn about our MYGA!

In May we added a new annuity to our product line and the interest and response have been incredible. Our Multi-Year Guaranteed Annuity (MYGA) offers guaranteed interest rates with 3 and 5-year options. If you have CDs or savings accounts that are not earning a strong guaranteed rate, now is a great time to reach out to our sales team to learn more!

one of the simplest ways to protect a family’s financial fu -

ture. In the event of an unexpected loss, it can help cover final expenses, replace lost income and ease the financial burden during a difficult time. It is a gift that provides security and protection for your family.

Guaranteed Growth in Uncertain Times

Annuities, particularly MultiYear Guaranteed Annuities (MYGAs), have become increasingly attractive for individuals looking to safeguard their savings. With guaranteed interest rates that often outperform traditional CDs or savings accounts, annuities can

provide dependable growth for retirement or long-term goals. Annuities offer certainty in today’s financial climate.

More Than a Present

Choosing life insurance or an annuity as a gift is not about replacing the joy of the holidays. It is about adding something that supports your family long after the wrapping paper is gone.

These products can help pay for final expenses, education, fund future milestones, or supplement retirement income. In many ways, life insurance and annuities are the gifts that con -

tinue giving.

A Simple Step Toward Long-Term Security

For families looking to strengthen their financial plans, life insurance and annuities are accessible options that provide clarity and confidence. Whether you are starting a policy for a child or grandchild, or reviewing your own coverage, a small step today can build a foundation for tomorrow.

This season, consider giving a gift that truly lasts. Your family’s future may be one of the most valuable things you can ever invest in.

Camp News

Camp registration now open with discounts!

Registration for Hermann Sons Life Camp has opened for the 2026 summer camp season.

Early enrollment has been brisk with many parents taking advantage of the Early Bird pricing – $175 off the registration fee for all enrollments processed with a deposit before Dec.15, 2025.

Last summer there was a waiting list for week-long enrollments. To accommodate more campers, more week-long sessions have been added for 2026. The 10-day and mini-camp options are no longer offered. To accommodate younger junior members, the eligible age has been lowered to seven.

Early Bird Special

While the cost of camp has increased to keep pace with rising prices, we have mitigated the cost of enrollment for returning families.

An early registration discount of $175 is available now through Dec. 15, 2025. With a $300 nonrefundable deposit, the discount will be automatically applied during registration through the deadline date.

Early registrants may adjust their session schedules later if needed, if space permits.

Registration fee installment payments will be accepted with payments due in February, March and April.

Sibling Discount

Families with multiple children can take advantage of a new sibling discount – the second child receives 5% off the listed fee, and each additional child (third and beyond) receives 10% off.

Multi-Session Discount

For families enrolling their child in more than one camp session, a $50 discount is available for each additional session. During the enrollment process, select the Multi-Session option. Please make sure you use this selection only on your second session for an individual child. Incorrectly selecting this

on first session will void the enrollment and require you to repeat the process for the first session.

Member Discount

Hermann Sons Life junior members (active policy hold ers) will pay $300 less in regis tration fees than non-members.

A code for the member only discount is required and is pro vided in an email.

CIT Pricing

The CIT registration fee is $310 per week (plus the $20 camp store voucher) through Jan. 30, 2026. After that date, it increases to $400.

All CITs must have sent in an application and interviewed with the Executive Camp Direc tor before enrolling.

Grief Support Camp

The devastating floods that hit the Hill Country in 2025 left thousands of families affected by its wake. We are again partnering with the Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas to provide two camps in 2026.

The first camp will be the traditional camp aimed specifically at children going through the loss of a significant family member or close friend (not just through the flooding).

The second camp will be a family camp in August with the aim of helping families with counseling to get through difficult situations and give them tools to help process.

We will be providing more details in coming months on how you or family and friends can take advantage of the wonderful work the CBCST do for the families and children of San Antonio and the surrounding area.

If you would like to help us and the CBCST in our efforts, donations are accepted for the Grief Support Fund during the enrollment process.

Mark Your Calendars Volunteer Workday

The annual Camp Volunteer Workday coincides with Join Hands Day this year. It is sched-

uled for Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

It would be wonderful to see one or two lodge members participate to help improve the summer camp experience for our campers. If you or your lodge can help by donating time or money to help with projects on this day, it would be greatly appreciated.

Camp Open House

The annual Camp Open House will be held Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

We’d love to see more families attend! There will be prizes, free swag and a raffle. Proceeds will benefit the HSL Youth Foundation, Inc.

Lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and tours held every 30 minutes from the dining hall.

HSL Camp merchandise will be available for purchase from 9:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Children will be able to the meet the counselors.

Activities will be held from

9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The pool will be open! Changing rooms will be available, in the Bobcat cabin for males and the Coyote cabin for females. Other fun activities will include Ga-ga, lawn games, arts and crafts and the challenge course. Closed-toe shoes are required for the challenge course. The challenge course will close for a 30-minute safety break from 11-11:30 a.m.

The campgrounds will close at 1 p.m.

Pups full of holiday mischief, not necessarily cheer Howie’s Happenings

NEW BRAUNFELS – I’d like to say the boys are full of holiday cheer, but I think full of mischief and chaos might be more fitting. Their version of holiday cheer looks more like extra treats and belly rubs under the tree!

Howie continues to perform his famous “chicken dance” every time his meal includes a chicken topper on top of his regular food. It’s a full performance of dancing around, tail wagging, prancing and a huge ear-to-ear grin.

We will only see this IF there is chicken. If we run out, you can forget a dance. He begrudgingly eats, but he isn’t happy if the chicken is missing. Thankfully, he is quick to forgive and is never short on sniper kisses!

Beau, on the other hand, saves his energy for the best part of his day – when we arrive home. Whether it’s minutes or hours, Beau makes sure you know he is thrilled you’re back and ready to play. Unfortunately, his enthusiasm led to a bit of a mishap for me. After work one day, we were running back in forth in my closet and I ran straight into the closet door and broke my toe. I have a stylish new boot for the next few weeks to recover from my graceful move.

Even though I am a little slower now, we’ve found ways to play. Both Howie and Beau are always ready for snuggles and playtime even if it’s not at the

same pace.

Howie and Beau wanted to share their friend, Nemo, with you. This darling boy is about four months old and is just about as cute as can be. He had a rough start to life with someone dumping him in a box by community mailboxes while just a tiny three pounds, but he hasn’t let it get him down.

He has a huge personality and loves attention and toys, especially when they’re bigger than he is.

He’s going to stay pretty small and won’t likely get much more than twenty pounds fully grown. Don’t let his small size fool you.

He is very confident and has so much adorable sass. He just made his television debut recently on Great Day SA too and would be happy to meet you to sign a “pawtograph.”

If you’re interested in meeting Nemo or any of the amazing other pups at HOTK9, please email hotk9rescue@yahoo.com to schedule a visit.
