Lem TragNguyen was born in Germany, grown up between Germany and Vietnam, the constant movement between the spectacle of eastern and western cultures has blurred her own identity borders. From doubting the existence of the physical body, her practice is the sequence of searching for “the breath” though climate-sound-images, which move constantly. Lem had her first artistic experiences in painting at the age of 8. After studying painting at Ruhr Academy, she exchanged to Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design, where she delved even more into her art practice and does not limit herself to any particular artform. In the third year of college, she decided to move to Vietnam and discovered performance art as “a land” of an existing series of behaviors which could be imagined as a post-psychic state where presents the void of loss. Recently, she works across performance, installation, moving image, and sound. She interests in questioning the relationships between the individual and culture, the porous borders that separate the public from the private, the fleeting nature of human relationships, the mutability of our sense of origin and belonging, and an acute awareness of temporality, mobility and displacement.
