Sporting ready to take on Margao SC TEAM HERALD sports@herald-goa.com

PANJIM: Reigning Super Cup champions, Sporting Clube de Goa take on Margao Sports Club in their opening GFA Pro League match at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Thursday. The kick off is at 4.15 p.m. This will be Sporting Clube’s first match at the venue since clinching the Goa Super Cup in the very last minute against Sesa Football Academy in May. Sporting Clube have since recruited the likes of Liberian striker Jerry Boima Karpeh and attacking midfielders Beevan D’Mello and Cajitan Fernandes from Salgaocar Football Club to bolster their squad, while their

top goal scorer for the past two seasons, Ogba Kalu has been retained. However, The Flaming Oranje will be missing the services of striker Dawson Fernandes who has been called up for the National team. On the other hand, Margao look to start their third consecutive season in the top flight with their focus remaining on the promotion of local talent. “We have had a very good pre-season. The players understand what is expected from them and we would like to start the season with a bang and give our supporters plenty to cheer about,” stated Sporting Clube coach, Oscar Bruzon.

MARGAO: A first half strike by Stanley Colaco helped Parish Youth, Nuvem overcome Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 1-0 to romp into the semi-finals of Our Lady of Merces inter-village football tournament organized by Sirlim Sports Club at church ground, Chinchinim, Wednesday. In an evenly poised battle, the teams adopted an aggressive approach and kept the crowds on their toes. The lone goal of the match came in the 28th minute when Stanley Colaco slotted past the rival

goalkeeper with a snap shot off well measured through pass from Minguel Baretto. Stung by the setback, Don Bosco piled on the pressure on their rivals but failed to get past the rival rearguard. Post resumption, Don Bosco showed urgency and attacked the rival goal. They had to blame themselves for the debacle as their forwards frittered away from ideal positions. At the other hand, Nuvem had a couple of scoring opportunities but their forwards blasted wide from handshaking distance.
