Since 2015, Hempfield Township Parks & Recreation has worked to replace our aging play structure. Installed sometime in the 1990’s, the main playground for Hempfield Park had seen better days. Installing a new playground is a major financial and planning undertaking, but we knew the time had come! With over $4 million in improvements already completed at Hempfield Park, installing the new inclusive, destination playground would bring them all together.

In 2018, Hempfield Township received grant funding from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) for $369,000 to build a new pavilion and install an inclusive playground.

The total project cost for both projects came in at $944,000, far above our $738,000 raised in grants and matching funds. We knew it was time to turn to our community of over 40,000 residents and 1,600 business to support this project.

Hempfield Township is now seeking your support. Our goal is to raise $200,000 to support the purchase and installation of our new inclusive playground at Hempfield Park. We have identified you as a partner for this project due to your investment in our community, past philanthropy, and strong relationship with our residents. We know that you share our desire to effect change for our residents in Hempfield Township.

We are going to build a playground that is accessible to all, stimulates our children’s imaginations, provides opportunity for truly inclusive play for children and young adults of all abilities, and will be a gathering place from our youngest to our oldest residents and visitors. This durable playground will be here for the next 30 years, brining joy to our children now, and their children later.

Giving to the Inclusive Playground at Hempfield Park is quick and easy! Most gifts can be made directly to the Hempfield Parks Fund, by way of the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County. Donations can be made online with a credit card, by mail with a check, or in person by check.

Cash donations will only be accepted with a submitted Playground Pail.

For gifts above $1,000.00 USD, please contact Aaron Siko, Director of Parks & Recreation to notify us of your intention to give. Gifts of $1,000.00 or more can be made online to the Hempfield Parks Fund, but notification to the Parks & Recreation Department is highly recommended for donation tracking.

All donors wishing to make a pledged gift must first contact the Director of Parks & Recreation to complete our Pledge Form. Pledged gifts will be invoiced on January 1st of each year until the pledge is fulfilled.

My business, non-profit, or classroom would like to fill a Pail?

Businesses, non-profits, and classrooms supporting the Pail Pal fundraiser will have the initial pick-up donation waived. All other pick-up, pail return, and donor acknowledgement information still applies.

All pails must be returned to the Hempfield Township Athletic Complex to be counted for the Grand Opening.
