This means that the hospital sits atop 126 base isolators rather than resting on the ground. The base isolators act similarly to car suspension, absorbing ground motion and allowing the hospital to withstand major seismic activity. Building services, including electrical, were designed to accommodate the movement type without damage. The solution makes LLUMC the world’s first 3D seismically isolated hospital.
LLUMC's community impact is extensive. Outside of LLUMC's patient benefits, the hospital offers local health fairs and educational programs, and sponsors community events and causes.
The project is a joint venture between Bergelectric and Helix. This team is responsible for all electrical and low voltage systems.
Helix 's team at LLUMC is honored to be part of a project that brings hope, compassion and healing to its local community. The team continues to work tirelessly, pulling on their collective experience and expertise, to finish the job.
