Located at the base of the Ko'olau Mountain Range, the Hawaii State Hospital is a 160,000 square foot forensic psychiatric hospital offering 144 in-patient beds. The facility will provide a safe and secure space for staff to treat patients and will offer a therapeutic environment for patients to heal.

Helix 's scope of work includes electrical distribution; detention and commercial grade lighting and controls; fire alarm; telecommunications pathways and wiring; distributed antenna systems for wireless carriers, emergency responder radio and FM radio repeating; security electronics pathways and wiring; 2000 kW generator; and ATSs. The team is installing a new backup generator capable of supporting the entire facility for up to 72 hours. They are also tying into the hospital's existing campus to supply power to the new building and central utility plant.

John Widener, a Journeyman Electrician on the project, commented on his work at the hospital, stating, "I’m really happy for the opportunity to be working on a project for the State Department of Health. I’ ve only been with Helix for a few months, but I have a great team here that I can count on. I especially enjoy working on the complex security systems on this project.
