Kiruna Wagon’s Side Dumper combines a proven unloading technology with an ultralight and modular design that takes your productivity to new levels.
The sealed wagon is designed for secure transport of all types of bulk commodities, including sticky, dusty and hazardous materials. For great long-term fleet economy, its standardised chassis can be used together with different, tailor-made load carriers.
The Side Dumper system has an unloading capacity of 15,200 tonnes per hour when four unloaders are used simultaneously. Kiruna Wagon manufactures both the wagon and the cost-effective unloader.

The Side Dumper offers secure highproductivity transport of all types of dry bulk, including sticky, dusty and hazardous materials.
The wagon has a sealed roof for environmental protection, with two design options depending on loading technique, and comes with a robust and cost-effective unloader.
The wagon consists of a standard chassis that is used together with different types of customised and interchangeable load carriers, which can be swiftly changed depending on your current transport and maintenance needs.
With its modular design and ultralight construction, the Side Dumper offers great long-term economy and a flexible answer to your dry bulk project.
The Side Dumper can be constructed with a sliding roof suitable for shute loading, like the wagon designed for ICL Iberia Súria & Sallent, pictured left, or with a roof suitable for wheel loading, like the wagon designed for Boliden, pictured below.

The new and updated Side Dumper offers the world’s highest productivity when it comes to roofed, side-tipping wagons for heavy dry bulk. The wagon is more than 20 percent lighter than its predecessor and considerably lighter than most comparable wagons on the market.
With a low tare weight of only 21.2 tonnes, the Side Dumper wagon can carry more payload on every trip. For our customers, this means major gains in productivity and important savings in energy and the environment.
Through a new and revolutionary design concept, we have been able to remove the stabilising underframe and hinges from the wagon and thereby making it ultralight. The unloading station acts as counterhold during tipping and forms, together with the wagon’s pivot, the hinge which the load carrier is rotated around. The innovative modular and ultralight construction offers major production advantages, such as high payload, high maintainability and accessibility, and easier-than-ever intermodal transhipments.
In a scenario where the annual transport volume is 1,000,000 tonnes, the Side Dumper can save 1,000 wagon loads per year when compared to a wagon that weighs 27 tonnes and operates on a 25 tonnes axle load railway, with a total wagon weight of 100 tonnes.
The wagon has been proven by Boliden in northern Sweden’s subarctic climate since 2009, with excellent performance during all seasons.

Our newest Side Dumper, pictured far right, is based on our proven side-tipping technology that has been used by Boliden since 2009. By transferring the intermediate frame’s functions to the unloader, we have been able to make the new-generation Side Dumper ultralight.
We are extremely happy with the Side Dumper and its performance. It is extraordinary compared to other wagons. Especially during the cold and snowy winters that we have here in northern Sweden.

The Side Dumper is based on our patented modular logistics system in which a standard chassis is combined with different, customised and interchangeable load carriers that are easily changed, depending on the type of cargo to be transported.
The system allows for increased production flexibility and represents a safer long-term investment. The modular design also facilitates a smooth transhipping between rail chassis made for different track gauges, and from trains to road trucks and ships. The wagon enables you to integrate your bulk logistics into secure and seamless door-to-door intermodal operations.
The modular design enables high accessibility and maintainability of individual load carriers and an increased availability of the entire logistics system.
A COMPLETE LOGISTICS SYSTEM WITH SIMULTANEOUS DISCHARGE
When acquiring the Side Dumper logistics system, you receive an optimised combination of wagon and unloader, both of which are designed and manufactured by Kiruna Wagon.
We consider the whole logistics chain and deliver complete systems for efficient transport at the right total CAPEX and OPEX.
The robust and low-cost Side Dumper unloader is ingenious in its construction but at the same time a very simple solution – all hydraulic components are of the standard type that is used for example in wheel loaders and trucks.
For greatest discharge capacity, up to four Side Dumper unloaders can be used simultaneously. This gives an unloading capacity of up to 15,200 tonnes per hour.
