Hebe Dragons Christmas Party 2021
The snowman was standing regally at the entrance to the Garden Bar to welcome guests to the Hebe Dragons Sailing Centre Christmas & Awards Party 2021, on Thursday evening, 23 December 2021.

The ringing of a bell announced the arrival of Santa Claus, who settled centre stage besides the decorated Christmas tree. There he called for young dinghy sailors and their parents to join him for a seasonal photograph.
Meanwhile, the sailors had a chance to have their log books and certificates updated by their instructors.
Rear Commodore (Sail Training), Harvey Jessop, then welcomed everyone and explained the Club’s Sailing Pathway which provides an opportunity for 7- to 8-yearold Optimist sailors to progress to the Elite Dragons Squad and even join the Hong Kong Sports Institute national sailing teams. Three youngsters – Peter Jessop, Daniel Chan and Tommy Wong – who have recently been invited to join the Institute were introduced.
He went on to give details of the Spanish hand-crafted Astro Optimist dinghy that he has donated to the club. Head Racing Coach, Alfred Okoth, will select a worthy youngster who will have the use of the dinghy for the next year. The selection is expected to take place in April.
Commenting on the Club’s commitment to encouraging development of youth sailing over the past four years, the staff of the Sailing Centre were recognised, including the Manager, Rob Allen, Head Coach, Alfie, along with the Instructors, including Clement Lam (Green Fleet Coach).

Jessop先生繼續分享了他捐贈給 遊艇會的西班牙手工製作 Astro Optimist 小艇的細節。 首席賽艇 教練阿爾弗雷德·奧科斯（Alfred Okoth）將挑選一名年輕選手， 將於明年使用小艇， 評選預計會 在四月進行。

Guests were then served with hot dogs, fries, ice cream and chocolate brownies with free flow orange squash. All sailors were issued with rash vests and T-shirts.
This was followed by Peter Jessop and Seb van Ommeron’s talk about the Hebe Dragons and the Youth Worlds in Italy.
The youngsters were divided into seven teams and, with formalities over, the games began.
The first involved four of the parents of each of the teams being wrapped in toilet paper in a fun magical snowman challenge. After that was a musical chairs session with chairs replaced by parents’ knees. Very entertaining and very funny! The teams returned to their tables where, having studied a schematic of the Sailing Pathway, they were required to memorise it and then reproduce it.
The evening concluded with a dancing musical statues competition when the dancers, parents and children, had to freeze when the music stopped. This was won by the Abel and Clothier families.
Points were awarded to each of the teams based on their performances in each of the games, with the undisputed overall winner Team 1, the G.O.A.T.S.
Another competition was to guess the weight of the snowman whose actual weight was 8.4kg. Paulo and Eliza came closest with guesses of 8.7kg to be worthy winners.
It proved a fun evening demonstrating the Club’s commitment to youth sailing and the excellent team it now has in place, which is beginning to reap success with the performances of the young sailors, including Patrick Feng, winner of the Hong Kong Race Week and Laser Nationals.

一連串的分享過後，歡樂的聖誕比賽終於開始了！年輕人及小朋友被分成七隊，第一個進行的 遊戲是神奇雪人挑戰，當中每隊的四名父母被包裹在衛生紙中。 接下來，便是一個經典的遊 戲：一把音樂椅，但原先的椅子以父母的膝蓋取替，非常有趣！ 完成第二個遊戲後，他們便回 到座位上進行下一個遊戲，玩法主要是記住航行路徑的示意圖，然後再嘗試複製它。
晚上則以舞蹈音樂雕像比賽作為結束，當音樂停頓時，舞者、父母和孩子要馬上定格。 贏家分 別是亞伯和克洛蒂爾家族。每隊根據他們在每場比賽中的表現獲得相應積分，無可爭議的總冠 軍由第一隊G.O.A.T.S. 取得！而另一場比賽中，參賽者需猜測雪人的重量。Paulo 和 Eliza 以 最 接近的8.7 公斤的體重成為獲勝者（實際體重為 8.4 公斤）。
這一切都證明了這是一個愉快的晚上，年輕的水手們獲得了一直以來辛勤地工作的回報，同時 亦展現出遊艇會對青年帆船運動的承諾及回報，當中包括在香港賽艇週及Laser Nationals獲得 冠軍的Patrick Feng。
NEW YEAR'S DAY BEACH BARBECUE 2022 元旦沙灘燒烤日
From its informal beginnings in the 1980s, the Hebe Haven Yacht Club’s annual beach barbecue is now a permanent fixture on the Club’s social calendar. Taking place on New Year’s Day at Hap Mun Bay Beach on Sharp Island—Hong Kong’s smallest island country park—and regularly attracts more than 100 members, their families and friends.
The beach faces west and is fortunate to have a landing pier and basic facilities, including showers and toilets, provided by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department. The beach also features several barbecue pits but the Club tries, for as long as anyone can remember, to occupy the southern section of the beach where the facilities are more limited. BBQ grills, charcoal, forks, food and drink were carried across the beach and camp was established. The fires were lit and drinks were served. Those suffering from the excesses of the previous night took a while to get into the swing of things but, by midday, most had recovered and the party was on its way.
In previous years, the Club engaged the services of kaido operators from Pak Sha Wan to ferry people back and forth but, this year, a new service was introduced. Hebe One, the Club’s 43-foot powercat, took people from the dock out to the bay while two P4 sampans ferried them ashore. When the party was over, Hebe One took them home again, all for a reasonable HK$ 50 per head.
The first group arrived at 1130 and included newly installed GM, Paul Arkwright, dressed in a dinner suit and wearing trainers, ready to serve cocktails and mulled wine to all who needed perking up.
Out in the bay, a steady flow of boats began arriving. After dropping anchor, crews came ashore and joined the fun. By midday, there were a dozen boats of all shapes and sizes, power and sail.
The event was an opportunity to get members together from different backgrounds and to celebrate the New Year in a relaxed and friendly way. This year, the Club decided to donate 25% of the bar’s takings to the Sailing Development Fund and members were free to bring their own food, including the traditional roast pig cooked to perfection by chef Claude Yuen.
沙灘面向西面，擁有完善碼頭及基本設施，包括由康文 署提供的淋浴設施及洗手間，海灘還設有數個燒烤設 施。不過只要有任何人記得，本會曾嘗試去使用設施有 限的沙灘南部，可是最後選擇更舒適的西面沙灘。人們 準備了燒烤架、炭包、燒烤叉、食物和飲料並帶到沙灘 去，而「營地」亦逐漸建好。營火被燃點起來，人們紛 紛享用著提供的飲料，那些因前一晚的過度勞累的朋友 花了一些時間去適應，慶幸到了中午大部份人都恢復狀 態，而派對也開始了！
在過往幾年，本會曾聘請街渡服務來接送人們來回白沙 灣和碼頭，不過今年推出了一項新服務。這正是由本會 會船Hebe One，船身43英尺Powercat型號，由碼頭接送 人們到海灣，再利用兩架P4舢舨船接載到岸上。當派對 結束後，Hebe one 會船再次載他們回到碼頭，每人也只 收取合理的50元。
第一組在11:30時到達，包括新任總經理Paul Arkwright, 他 穿上晚禮服配以運動鞋，準備提供雞尾酒和香料熱紅酒給 那些需要提神的人。
在海灣外面，船隻陸陸續續地開始抵達。船員們在拋錨 之後上岸並加入派對當中。到了中午，已有十幾艘不同形 狀、大小、力量和帆的船隻。
今次活動是給予機會去聚集來自不同背景的成員，一起 以輕鬆和諧的方式去慶祝新年。今年，本會決定捐贈酒吧 收入的 25% 予航海發展基金。會員當天攜帶了自己的食 物，當中更有廚師 Claude Yuen 精心烹煮的傳統燒乳豬。
Missing this year were some of the stalwarts from the past. Mark and Juliet Ashton were in Langkawi awaiting an opportunity to come back and Kay Patterson had family matters to attend to. They were truly missed.
Nevertheless, throughout the day, more than 100 people joined the fun and ex-commodore, CK Chan, was pleased with the turnout. He would like to see more expats showing up, though, and says they make the event special. In the past, more than 80% would be foreigners but this year it was the other way round.
The venue is not too far away—all the more reason to get out there and have fun. The HHYC team put in a huge effort to ensure that everyone had a great time and a strong start to 2022.
