This gallery is worth a visit just to see the creative work on display, but it makes a point of drawing attention to the values, attitudes, beliefs and cultural background of the artists involved. Montville Art Gallery is located in a delightful turn of the century Queenslander opposite the site of the original Montville Art Gallery, which was tragically destroyed by fire in August 1995. First established in 1972, the Montville Art Gallery is currently owned and operated by Tracey and Wayne Malkin.

Steve has won many awards and been a finalist in major art prizes including Sunshine Coast Art Prize 2011, Redland Art Award 2010, Border Art Prize 2015 & 2007, Tattersalls Club Landscape Art Prize 2009, among others.
This month we are featuring the work of Gold Coast-based artist Steve Tyerman. Steve has been a professional artist since 2002, and developed a lush heavy impasto palletknife style of painting. As an artist, he is inspired by the landscape, birds and native animals of his hinterland home, and he uses direct observation, sketches, plein air painting and photographs

ABOUT ANTLERS Deer Antler is not horn, it is bone. It is the only animal that grows bone outside its body! Antler growth on the male deer occurs in the warm spring and summer months. In the early stages of growth the antler is soft and full of blood. The outer layer has a soft coating that looks and feels like velvet. The antler progressively calcifies and the out layer dries and falls away, leaving a calcified antler. As the antler fully calcifies the males testosterone level rises and peaks around the Full Easter Moon. The animal uses his antlers to mark territory and to fight rival males during the mating season. This lasts for 6 weeks, then the males rest over winter. Nature provides new growth in the spring, the old antler falls off and another begins to grow.

Ishkhan is not only the owner, but also the onsite jeweller and designer who began his jewellery career at 16 and has worked in many countries gathering insurmountable knowledge and skills. Arriving in Australia in 2009, he has worked in the jewellery industry in a number of different states. Laurisha Jewellery began in a back-yard studio in WA in 2014 but when Ishkhan and Laura had their son, Raffi, they decided to move back to Qld. Ishkhan then set up his workshop within Latitude Gallery, Montville and has been there since March 2016. Now taking the opportunity to take over the lease.

SCULPTURE ON THE EDGE Sculpture on the Edge is a contemporary three-dimensional (3D) award exhibition, presented by Arts Connect Inc in the Sunshine Coast’s Hinterland over twenty five days from 29 Sept 23 Oct 2017. The exhibition has been presented at Spicers Tamarind Retreat in the gardens since 2012.

One of our feature artists is Lindsay Muir who has been a favourite of Secrets on the Lake years before the gallery was built. You will find his framed wall hangings in all of our treehouses incorporating the themes of each treehouse in his work. His ceramic sculptures of frogs on leaves are delightful and intricate, with an great eye for detail, his work is highly sought after with our gallery and accommodation guests. The natural beauty of this area has attracted many artists over the years and is also an ideal setting for showcasing finely crafted works of art. Peterson) and even unique leather mask sculptures (Michael Taylor).
