ABOUT ANTLERS Deer Antler is not horn, it is bone. It is the only animal that grows bone outside its body! Antler growth on the male deer occurs in the warm spring and summer months. In the early stages of growth the antler is soft and full of blood. The outer layer has a soft coating that looks and feels like velvet. The antler progressively calcifies and the out layer dries and falls away, leaving a calcified antler. As the antler fully calcifies the males testosterone level rises and peaks around the Full Easter Moon. The animal uses his antlers to mark territory and to fight rival males during the mating season. This lasts for 6 weeks, then the males rest over winter. Nature provides new growth in the spring, the old antler falls off and another begins to grow.

ARTIST OF THE MONTH At the Garden Haus Gallery: SHANNAMAY. A born Artist, her inspiration stemming from an innate connection with nature, birds and animals, Shannamay has never sought out any kind of training or correction to the natural flow of her creative expression. Choosing rather to follow intuitive feelings, visions, and life experiences, flowing into sculpture and onto canvas. Her works are often imbued with a sense of other worldliness, ethereal, mix of confronting raw emotion, working with whatever energies are presented at the time. For Many years living in the hills of Nimbin, her art was a living canvas, nurturing her family of four children, through home based learning, surrounded by many animals friends, creating precious memories, music, and magical gardens filled with roses and healing herbs.

11

Art Gallery OPEN Monday to Friday: 9:00am - 4:00pm Saturday & Sunday: 8:00am - 4:00pm

With children now grown, and after losses of all her life’s works in a fire, she traveled through Europe, photographing life and art and connecting with many artists in different countries . One particular magical experience was a left turn, arriving on the doorstep of ‘Angeles Gallerie’ in Vallauris France, and spending an afternoon in the home and garden of Flore, who told of her many childhood memories of Picasso, a family friend, who frequently stopped by for coffee and chat, with her artist father on his way to his studio. With an open invitation extended to attend the prestigious ‘Air Valluaris’ world artists in residence, she may yet return to Europe. But for now Shannamay is happy to call Maleny home, the beauty of the mountains at her front door, the comforts of country side, and the unique nature that is Maleny, a good match. After previous exhibitions in both Tambourine mountain and Nimbin. She would like to thank the ‘Garden Cafe’ for the opportunity to present her current Exhibit - ‘SELFIC HEALING’. She will be in attendance on Mon & Tues morning 7 & 8 Aug.
