We knew we had a huge project in front of us, but we weren’t thinking of the redemptive and healing nature of restoration. I knew I wanted a way out from my consulting job and after closing down operations overseas a couple years prior, it was no secret I was burnt out and lost. 97 Sanderling was an abandoned dream of the original builder, and I never would have thought two broken things could make a whole. But we wanted something more out of life – a different rhythm, a different point of view, and a place where our family could invest together, build together, and dream together. This home became not just a remodel project, but a restorative one, both for us and the building. As the story got out, people just started coming. At first it was old friends who wanted to help, experts who could advise on aspects of the restoration and finish that we needed. Then it was our guests and clients who wanted a space where they could enjoy the mountains and views and open space, but the intimacy of a cozy home. There was something different here – an atmosphere. The restoration had healed not just half-built rooms, but the feel and air of the space. We hope the thousands of hours of labor and love poured into this space is felt and shared by everyone who enters. Saturday morning they rose early and drove by the home before our showings began. The Seller was collecting her things to leave and Bill and Denise decided to see where she was going. She arrived at King Soopers and as she was walking in the store, they pulled up in their cute lime green Subaru Crosstrek, rolled down their window and said “Hey, want to sell your house to us?”

The current owners made a promise to the family to keep the integrity of the home when they purchased it off market from them in 2011. They spent one entire year rehabbing, restoring and reclaiming the original structure with their own blood, sweat and tears. They groomed the entire five-acre site and have made their home and property the local central gathering place for their friends, family and neighbors.
