Ms. Woods’ 3rd graders responded to the following challenge: You are offered a special allowance for one month. Which option would you choose and why? a.

Each day you get double the number of pennies you received on the previous day.

b.

You can have a million dollars

I chose the million dollars because if I chose the pennies, it would be WAY less. I would donate half to charity and keep the rest for myself. I would buy a tree-house for my backyard. I have forever wanted a tree-house and that way my dad wouldn’t have to build it for me. ~Sidney Puchner I choose to double the pennies because I think it will be more. I would exchange all the pennies for dollar bills, donate a quarter to charity and another quarter to animals and save half. ~Brinley Berger

If I was given a one million dollar allowance I would give some money to charity. Then some to my mom and dad for our house. I’d use the rest for a business so I could make more money. I would buy gamer gear and be a YouTuber and make even more money. ~Graham Mellert I would choose one million dollars because I would want to donate to charity like the American Heart Association. With the rest, I would get an American Girl Doll, a car, a phone and a gift for my family like a picture frame with a picture of all of us. ~ Noriah Hamdani I chose the million dollars because if I doubled the penny, whatever amount of pennies I got, I would have to divide it by 100 to see how many dollars I get. What I would get with one million dollars is… a bunch of American Girl dolls and every single pair of jeans at Old Navy. I would also donate half to charity. I would like to get Gucci and Hollister clothing and accessories too (handbags and jewelry especially!!) ~Rose Ciotta If I got a million dollars I would give half to charity. Then I would have $500,000 left and with that I would pay the bills and buy a phone. ~Eyupcan Yazici I chose the one million dollars because if you double the pennies 30 times it’s only about $2,000. I would donate half of the money to charity and use the rest to buy something for my family. ~ Katie Ioannou Images by Google
