Ingredients

Method

25g butter

Melt butter in a heavy large frying pan over medium heat. Add the chicken and brown on all sides for about 7 minutes. Transfer to a plate.

2 chicken breast fillets, diced 1 onion, sliced 4 garlic cloves, minced 3 tablespoons curry powder 1/2 apple, diced 1 stalk celery, chopped 1/2 red pepper, chopped 75g (3 oz) sultanas 500ml (17 fl oz) chicken stock salt to taste

Add the onion and garlic to the same frying pan and sautĂŠ for about 6 minutes, or until translucent. Stir in the curry powder. Return chicken to pan.

Add the apple, celery, red pepper, sultanas and stock. Season with salt. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes, or until the sauce thickens. Serve with rice.

WORKING AT HEIGHT? Sirocco Safety www.siroccosafety.co.uk How often within your business do you Work at Height? Do you eliminate it wherever you can? Do you plan the works and have suitable and sufficient risk assessments and method statements in place to control Working at Height? Do you know that there are Regulations in place for Working at Height?

Your answer to the above might well be mixed and you may not be aware of what is constituted as “Working at Height”. In the UK in 2014, 29% of RIDDOR fatalities were as a result of Working at Height. Scary thought?? Indeed it is.

So what exactly is Working at Height? Well the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) give Working at Height as “Work at height means work in any place where, if precautions were not taken, a person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury.

You are working at height if you – Work above ground/floor level Could fall from an edge, through an opening or fragile surface or Could fall from ground level into an opening in a floor or a hole in the ground Work at height does not include a slip or a trip on the level, as a fall from height has to involve a fall from one level to a lower level, nor does it include walking up and down a permanent staircase in a building.”

Working at Height is covered by the Work at Height Regulations 2005 which aims to prevent deaths and injuries caused each year by falls at work. The Working at Height Regulations set out 3 simple rules for work at height which are:

AVOID work at height if you can – if you don’t need to work at height then don’t!

If work at height cannot be avoided then you MUST PREVENT falls by selecting and using the right access equipment i.e. independent scaffolding, mobile tower scaffolding, mobile elevated working platform (MEWP) etc.

MINIMISE the impact of any fall.

OK, so you’ve considered the above.

Now what do you need to do? Well, it is essential that when working at height that the works are carefully planned, are supervised and are carried out by a trained, experienced and competent person who can erect / use / dismantle or operate any Working at Height access equipment i.e. independent scaffold, mobile scaffold tower, MEWP (cherry picker, scissor lift) etc.

It is essential that you have task specific risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work in place. These must include the relevant hazards, risks and also the methods of controlling the risks.

You must ensure that you restrict access to all working at height access platforms to all nonessential personnel and this includes members of the public.

As H&S professionals, we are often asked by Clients and contractors if a ladder is an acceptable piece of access equipment for Working at Height. Our response to that is that when a risk assessment has identified that using access equipment offering a higher level of fall protection is not justified because of the low risk and short duration then yes a ladder is suitable. For instance you would not use a mobile access tower to change a low level light bulb fitting – it simply isn’t reasonably practicable to do so. Having said that, if the task was going to require using a ladder or stepladder for more than half an hour then we would recommend that alternative access equipment is used. In any event, the ladder must be sited on a level and stable surface and wherever possible be secured.

Ladders must be subject to pre-use checks to ensure that they are fit for purpose and do not have any defects.

Why use an implant?

Like any other restoration dental implants can be damaged by trauma and affected by gum disease and poor oral hygiene. An initial implant assessment is therefore essential.

Rob graduated from Leeds Dental Institute in 2003. After graduation he spent a year as a Senior House Officer in Maxillofacial Surgery then went on to successfully complete further training in placing and restoring implants. He has subsequently been awarded a Diploma in Implant Dentistry from College of Surgeons, Rob has many years' experience in the use of intra-venous sedation to help relax anxious patients or to aid the patient when they are apprehensive about surgical procedures such as implants,
