The community of Haileybury Rendall School acknowledges and pays respect to the Traditional Custodians of the land on which it is based, the Larrakia People, and pays respect to the Elders — past and present.
We pay due courtesy to the Traditional Custodians of the lands of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and commit unwaveringly to our shared journey of improved understanding and trust whilst providing equity and excellence in Indigenous education.
We acknowledge the deep sense of responsibility we have as a school community to promote and build a more reconciled nation through education.
Haileybury Rendall School is an independent co-educational day and boarding school located in Darwin in the Northern Territory. Enrolment numbers during 2024 remained constant at around 1,020 students. The School includes:
> an Early Learning Centre of around 70 three-year-old and four-year-old students,
> a Junior School with two classes at each level from Transition to Year 3, and 3 classes in Years 4, 5 and 6,
> a Middle School with an average cohort size of 120 students per year from Years 7–9, and
> a Senior School that is growing in size, with approximately 220 students from Years 10–12.
Haileybury Rendall School is proud of being recognised as a Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Education. Approximately 15% of students at the School in 2024 were from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.
Haileybury Rendall School is also a boarding school. In 2024 there were up to 100 boarders living at the School. Most of these students were Indigenous and came
from remote or very remote communities across the north of Australia. The boarding school also housed international students with students from Singapore, Vietnam and China enrolled. The School welcomes domestic boarders from across Australia. The boarding population comprises approximately 10% of the School population.
Haileybury Rendall School is proud of its affiliation with Haileybury Melbourne where there are five different campuses with over 4,800 students in 2024. This includes Pangea, our online school, with registered students from the Northern Territory and Victoria. Haileybury also operates a campus in China. There are strong connections between staff and students from Darwin and Melbourne. The schools share a common curriculum which is partly why Haileybury Rendall School is the only Northern Territory School that runs the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) through Years 10–12.
Our graduates are all welcomed as life members of the Old Haileyburians Association.
Haileybury Rendall School supports the broad One Haileybury vision of being a great world school.
In 2024, Haileybury Rendall School (HRS) celebrated its seventh year of operation, achieving significant milestones. The school experienced continuous growth in enrolments, starting the year with approximately 1,020 students, including 100 boarding students. The Junior School saw particularly notable growth, with two classes at each level from Transition to Year 3, and a first-time addition of three classes in Years 4, 5 and 6. As student numbers increase throughout the school, both the Middle School and, particularly, the Senior School are also experiencing growth.
The School continued to promote academic excellence, foster student wellbeing across all levels, and prioritise staff professional and leadership development. Our ongoing efforts to establish ourselves as a recognised Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Education continued. It was a source of pride that 15 Indigenous students completed their Year 12 education at HRS in 2024, showcasing our commitment to retention rates and our contribution to narrowing educational disparities through ‘closing the gap.’
A further growth in academic results was shown in NAPLAN 2024 online testing. HRS was recognised as the top-performing NAPLAN primary school in the Northern Territory for the fourth consecutive year. Our Indigenous students from very remote communities showed strong academic growth in numeracy and literacy from Years 7–12, with some students completing over three years growth within the year,
in aspects of their learning. Our NAPLAN results for very remote Indigenous students in Years 7 and 9 were several years above the NT averages.
We witnessed commendable VCE results and ATAR scores, which follows on a pattern of impressive outcomes over the past four years. For 2024, 26% of our Year 12 VCE students achieved ATAR scores of 90 or above, and approximately 50% achieved scores surpassing an ATAR of 80. These outcomes serve as a clear validation of the School’s academic environment, the dedication of our students, and the commitment and calibre of our passionate educators.
Haileybury Rendall School continues to build its reputation in the Northern Territory with the aim of being recognised as the premier school of choice across northern Australia. It was wonderful recognition to achieve Excellence Awards as Australian Regional School of the Year and for Best School Wellbeing Program in 2024 at the Australian Education Awards. The enthusiastic support from the local community is evident in the rise in enrolments, affirming our shared vision and aspirations. The School remains committed to ongoing growth, enhancement, and delivering a top-tier education, both inside and outside the classroom. At HRS, every student and every staff member matter every day.
