Unsung Heroes recognised at Awards Ceremony Unsung heroes are being honoured at the Babergh Community Achievement Awards on Wednesday 18th March 2015. The awards ceremony, which has been organised by Babergh District Council with generous sponsorship provided by Prolog, will take place at Stoke-byNayland Hotel, Golf and Spa at 6pm. The event will recognise 23 individuals and groups that have given many hours of their time to help the communities in which they live. Over 30 nominations were received for this annual Awards ceremony which recognises those that provide endless hours of community service in the areas in which they live. Cllr James Long, Chairman of Babergh District Council, who will be presenting the Awards, said: “The Babergh awards have been running for over 20 years and have become an opportunity to celebrate with individuals and groups to recognise and thank them for their hard work and achievements. As Chairman, I am delighted to be able to meet the people that can make a big difference in some of our smallest communities.” Robert Audley, Executive Chairman of Prolog said “I feel incredibly proud to sponsor
the Babergh Community Achievement Awards again this year; the event recognises so many selfless individuals and groups that are giving up their time to support others. I would like to congratulate all of the winners whose drive, determination and commitment make the Babergh District a better place to be.” Local Winners include: Beryl Holmes, Lavenham; Rita Hoyle, Hadleigh; Jan Dicks, Hadleigh; Helen Landon, Whatfield; Ray & Liz Parker, Whatfield; Gwen Runnacles, Burstall; Keith Raby, Burstall; Linda Newbigging, Kersey; Sue Fayers, Lavenham; Fred Breyer, Hadleigh; Penny Spraggon, Hadleigh As part of this year’s ceremony, the Council have been working with media students from Suffolk One to produce a short film on all winners, which will be shown at the awards ceremony. The film highlights the individuals or groups work and also features the nominator explaining why they felt an award should be given. Anyone living in the Babergh District and who works in the local community, on an unpaid, voluntary basis, was eligible for nomination. This community work could come in any shape or form, from fundraising work, to campaigning for improved local services, or providing a long-term service to the community.
