Daycare «Find Your Way»

Adaptive Re-Use Project 3rd year

This project focused on wayfinding. A colourful wayfinding system will be introduced through floor tiles. Each colour is associated to a different age group and daycare suite. The children could essentially maneuvre around the building without getting lost just by simply following the coloured floor tiles. This will help for the children to develop their confidence and independence.

Since this is an adaptive re-use project using an existing building originally built in the early 70s, the existing structure is shown as purple in plan and any black lines are new additions. The rooms and suites are also catered to the building's existing structure.

Ce projet s'est beaucoup concentré sur l'orientation. Un système d'orientation coloré sera mis en place par les tuiles de sol. Chaque couleur est associée à un groupe d'âge différent et à une suite de garderie. Les enfants pourront essentiellement se déplacer dans le bâtiment sans se perdre en suivant les couleurs placés sur le plancher. Cela les aidera à développer leur confiance et leur indépendance.

Étant donné qu'il s'agit d'un projet de réutilisation adaptative d'un bâtiment existant construit au début des années 70, la structure existante est représentée en violet foncé sur le plan et les lignes noires sont les nouveaux ajouts. Les chambres et les suites sont également adaptées à la structure existante.

Street Analysis «Lively Vision for Durham»

This pedestrian street development project was focused on a once busy and lively downtown Sudbury street. It divided the site into three zones: a green space for park use, an industrial and urban space with scaffolding for restaurant seating, and a dynamic space for festivals, markets, and other local events. In the winter, the entire street would feature a skating path. The Durham Street analysis on the right looks at all the commercial spaces and potential development opportunities.

Ce projet d’aménagement d’une rue piétonne s’est concentré sur une rue du centre-ville de Sudbury autrefois très fréquentée et animée. Il a divisé le site en trois zones : un espace vert pour un parc, un espace industriel et urbain avec des échafaudages pour des sièges de restaurant, et un espace dynamique pour des festivals, des marchés et d’autres événements locaux. En hiver, la rue entière serait équipée d’une piste de patinage. L’analyse de la rue Durham, à droite, porte sur tous les espaces commerciaux et les possibilités de développement.

Building Design «Durham’s Centre»

Support Building

This building is a continuation of the previous pedestrian street design. The building is used to support the urban scape of the street, providing storage and interior private and public community spaces. The entire assignment’s concept was largely based on urban scaffolding seating being introduced along the street, and so this building’s facade is pulled off to allow scaffolding to lean against it without compromising views, access and natural daylighting for the building.

Ce bâtiment s’inscrit dans la continuité de la conception de la rue piétonne précédente. Le bâtiment est utilisé pour soutenir le paysage urbain de la rue, en fournissant des espaces de stockage et des espaces intérieurs privés et publics. Le concept de l’ensemble de la mission était largement basé sur l’introduction d’échafaudages urbains le long de la rue. La façade de ce bâtiment a donc été retirée pour permettre aux échafaudages de s’appuyer contre elle sans compromettre les vues, l’accès et l’éclairage naturel du bâtiment.

The concept for the bench was based around scaffolding. Downtown Sudbury is often occupied by construction with scaffolding lining the streets. With this said, our group wanted to put an urban spin on scaffolding. Allowing pedestrians to interact and use scaffolding that they might normally consider “ugly” or simply ignore it, will permit them to extend their stay and enjoyment in the downtown centre.

Le concept du banc était basé sur l’échafaudage. Le centre-ville de Sudbury est souvent occupé par des constructions avec des échafaudages bordant les rues. Cela dit, notre groupe a voulu donner une tournure urbaine aux échafaudages. Permettre aux piétons d’interagir et d’utiliser des échafaudages qu’ils pourraient normalement considérer comme « laids » ou simplement ignorer, leur permettra de prolonger leur séjour et leur plaisir au centre-ville.

«The Glacier»

The geological characteristics of the chosen site of the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area in Sudbury, Ontario, are the result of the glaciation which took part many years ago. The concept of this design is an abstract representation of the site’s history. The building is covered with vegetation and reflects the grooves of the rocks made by the glaciers. The perforated metal facade and wavy skin of the building reflect the characteristics of a glacier and the luminous CLT structure inside suggests a modern and natural touch.

Les caractéristiques géologiques du site choisi pour l’aire de conservation du lac Laurentien à Sudbury, en Ontario, sont le résultat de la glaciation qui a eu lieu il y a de nombreuses années. Le concept de cette conception est une représentation abstraite de l’histoire du site. Le bâtiment est recouvert de végétation et reflète les rainures des rochers creusées par les glaciers. La façade métallique perforée et la peau ondulée du bâtiment reflètent les caractéristiques d’un glacier et la structure CLT lumineuse à l’intérieur suggère une touche moderne et naturelle.

Design Build «L’Éponge»

This project is an attraction for the McEwen school of Architecture’s program. Half of the first semester is spent collaborating as a team to design and conceptualize a wooden structure that will be placed on the local Ramsey Lake skating path come wintertime. The structure is built from recycled wood, 2x2s, 2x4s, and 2x6s from construction sites and depots around the city. The concept for the structure began with a sponge and was based on an asymmetric cut out curvilinear shape with a bar on one side and a back rest on the other.

Ce projet est une attraction pour le programme de l’école d’architecture McEwen. La moitié du premier semestre est consacrée à la collaboration au sein d’une équipe pour concevoir une structure en bois qui sera placée sur le sentier de patinage local du lac Ramsey pendant l’hiver. La structure est construite à partir de bois recyclé, de 2x2, 2x4 et 2x6 provenant de chantiers de construction et de dépôts de la ville. Le concept de la structure est parti d’une éponge et était basé sur une forme curviligne asymétrique découpée avec une barre d’un côté et un dossier de l’autre.

Adaption «L’Éponge Afterlife»

The Ice Structure projects on the Ramsey Lake skating path are disassembled to reuse the wood for future projects. I had volunteered to take the structure home to prolong its life. I added lights around the curvilinear shape, stained the wood to protect it from the sun, fastened it to the ground and a tree to keep it stable in harsh winds, and added cushions for comfortable seating by the fire.

Les projets de structures de glace sur le sentier de patinage du lac Ramsey sont démontés afin de réutiliser le bois pour de futurs projets. Je m’étais porté volontaire pour ramener la structure chez moi afin de prolonger sa durée de vie. J’ai ajouté des lumières autour de la forme curviligne, j’ai teinté le bois pour le protéger du soleil, je l’ai fixé au sol et à un arbre pour qu’il reste stable en cas de vents violents, et j’ai ajouté des coussins pour m’asseoir confortablement près du feu.

Multi-Use Residential «Streetfront Housing»

This project is a co-housing residential building with affordable units which is designed to support young parents who are in search of help and community. Through design decisions and community spaces, Streetfront Housing aims to provide its users with communal spaces in which they have the opportunity to create community, relationships, and support through human connections.

Ce projet est un immeuble résidentiel en cohabitation avec des unités abordables qui est conçu pour soutenir les jeunes parents qui sont à la recherche d’aide et de communauté. Par le biais de décisions de conception et d’espaces communautaires, Streetfront Housing vise à fournir à ses utilisateurs des espaces communautaires dans lesquels ils ont la possibilité de créer une communauté, et des connexions humaines positives.
