NSC donates Table Tennis equipment to Primary Schools on the Corentyne After doing some training in the game of table Tennis recently, schools on the Corentyne Coast were given an opportunity to allow their students to enhance their skills. Tw o o f t h e s c h o o l , Leeds Primary and Corriverton Primary were recently the beneficiaries of Table Tennis equipment from the National Sports Commission (NSC). They receive table tennis tables, racquets and balls. The equipment was handed over at the Ministry of the Presidency, Department of Social Cohesion, Third Annual Harmony Village day which was held at the Scotsburg Community Center ground, No 76 Village Corentyne. The donations were made by National Table Tennis Coach attached to the NSC Linden Johnson to Sherry Jacobs, teacher of Leeds Primary School and Tiandi Heyliger teacher of the Corriverton Primary School. Convincing victories for defending champions, Regal Masters have guaranteed them a semi-final spot in the annual New York Softball Cricket League’s Independence Cup in New York. When the action got underway on Friday the defending champions easily knocked over Corriverton SVC Masters and New York Softball Cricket League (NYSCL) Masters at Canarsie Park, Brooklyn to keep an unbeaten record heading into day two of the three-day three tier tournament. Playing in the Masters category, Regal opened their account with a 46-run victory over Corriverton SVC before stopping NYSCL Masters by 22 runs in sunny and humid conditions. In the opening match, Regal Masters opted to bat and got to 149-4 with contributions from Ramesh Deonarine with 56, Eric Thomas 39 and 21 from David Harper with no Corriverton Masters bowler being spared the assault. In reply, Corriverton
Masters were bowled out for 103 in 17.1 overs with only opener S. Sadloo showing application in the top score of 34. Left arm spinner Laurie Singh spun webs around the batsmen to claim 3/9 and got support from Troy Kippins 3/ 24 and 2/28 from speedster David Harper. The good performances continued in the second preliminary match when the defending champions limited NYSCL Masters to 107-8 in reply to their 129-9. In Regal Masters’ innings, opener Unis Yusuf blasted 27 (3x6), while Deonarine’s consistency continued with a patient 17. There was an entertaining 17run 9th wicket partnership between Laurie Singh (01 not out) and Parsram ‘Pacer’ Persaud (15 not out) to get the respectable score after some good bowling from the hosts. Faizul Ulla lead NYSCL Masters bowling with 3/19, while Kumar Chickery snared 2/23 and Imtiaz Ali 2/27 in blazing sun. In reply, they could not handle the pace of Regal Masters and crawled to 107-8 when their 20 overs
expired. Bobby Parasnauth lead the rout with 3/16 and got support from Laurie Singh 2/ 24, while ‘Pacer’ Persaud and Kippins had one each. Regal Masters were set to wrap up their preliminary round of matches when they took on Canadian Legends at 10:00hrs yesterday morning before their semi-final match at 15:00hrs. Also in the Master’s category is Fishermen Masters, the only other Guyanese team who drew the bye on Friday morning before winning their second round match to put themselves in a good position for a semi-final spot as well. The other categories are Open which attracted eight teams and the Legends (Over 50 years old) with seven teams. There are also seven masters (Over 45 years old) teams. The teams are grouped in two groups for round robin competition before the top two teams advance to the semi-finals that were set for yesterday afternoon. The three finals are set for today at Roy Wilkins Park.

The All Female ‘Our National game of Circle Tennis’ one Day competition which was scheduled for tomorrow July 1, has been rescheduled to a later date. Region 6 Sports Officer Godwyn Allicolk will be hosting a one day Our National Game of Circle Tennis Mixed team competition in New Amsterdam at the All Saints Church Ground tomorrow instead. of School Year Edward Cobenna Memorial Primary schools Georgetown champions Trophy action tomorrow, continues inside the National Gymnasium with play starts at 10:30am and will see girls and boys in action. Schools expected to be in action are: North Georgetown, Winfer Garden, Saint Margaret’s, Smith Memorial, Saint Pius, Grahams Hall, Mae’s, Tucville and Kettley. Parents are being asked to come out and support their child or children.
