Bates Family Law, P.C.
HELPING YOU MANAGE WHEN LIFE SEEMS UNMANAGEABLE
Divorce can be an overwhelming and challenging process, filled with uncertainty and endless questions. In times like these, having a reliable and empathetic legal team by your side can make all the difference. That’s where Bates Family Law comes in. With their streamlined approach, Alison Bates, a dedicated family law attorney, and her husband, Jeff Egburtson, a professional divorce mediator, provide couples in the Rochester area with an efficient, economical solution.
Experience matters when it comes to divorce and family law cases, and Alison Bates has an impressive record. As one of the most soughtafter Rochester divorce attorneys, she has represented thousands of clients in contested and uncontested divorces, child custody matters, and child support cases.
While most cases are settled outside the courtroom, Bates Family Law has over a decade of trial experience, enabling them to make informed decisions about when to compromise and when to push negotiation points to court. Additionally, they collaborate with financial advisors, business evaluators, and accountants to provide clients with comprehensive solutions.
Uncontested Divorce
An uncontested divorce is the fastest, most affordable path to divorce. Whether divorce is a recent decision or one decided years ago and you are now ready to move forward, Bates Family Law has streamlined the process to minimize costs. They will assist you every step of the way to help determine grounds for your divorce, educating you on all the decisions that need to be made to receive a Judgment of Divorce in New York, and they work with you to make these decisions. Depending on your situation, it can be as simple as filling out the Net Worth Statement and their Uncontested Divorce Questionnaire.
Bates Family Law is committed to their clients’ best interests. In their respective roles at the practice, Alison and Jeff’s goals emphasize communication. They value introspection and actively listen to their clients’ concerns, recognizing the emotional turmoil that naturally accompanies divorce. By creating a safe, supportive environment, they help clients feel understood, validated, and guided through the process with clarity and compassion.
At the heart of their practice is a genuine passion for helping people. Alison and Jeff understand that divorce is often the lowest point in someone’s life, marked by uncertainty, sadness, anger, and fear. They provide a safe space for clients to express feelings without judgment, offering clarity, compassion, and support.
Education is also key with Bates Family Law, as they strive to educate individuals about alternatives to traditional litigated divorce: mediation and uncontested divorce. Both options are faster, less stressful, and more cost-effective than hiring separate attorneys. Visit their blog posts on their website for more about this topic.
The Net Worth Statement is a NYS-required divorce form in which you list all of your monthly expenses and marital assets and debts. With that information and answers on the Uncontested Divorce Questionnaire, they quickly prepare your Separation and Property Settlement Agreement. This written agreement defines your divorce terms and includes decisions regarding spousal and child support, child custody, and distribution of debts and assets. In addition, they handle all documents filed in the case of an uncontested divorce. Unlike a contested divorce, in most cases neither party generally needs to appear in court.
Mediation
Bates Family Law also offers Divorce Mediation, providing couples with the opportunity to work together and reach an amicable resolution while saving money. The process typically offers lower cost, greater control, better fitting outcomes, a shorter process, avoids involving one’s children, and better communication between you and your spouse. Mediation is a voluntary, less formal, and often much less expensive method of navigating the divorce process. The average cost of a divorce today is $12,900 per person with typically $6,500-$10,000 required up front to retain an attorney. Mediation fees, on the other hand, are significantly less expensive—around $195 per hour—and are paid as time is utilized. Once a couple reaches agreement on all necessary areas, the legal paperwork can be scribed, and the divorce finalized for an additional $2,750 split between the couple—a significant savings.
Mediation makes you an active participant in the divorce process and outcomes. Often less stressful, mediation involves no court dates and no attorneys unless you choose to involve them. Couples decide how often to meet and how long to meet for at each session, as well as custody arrangements and allocation of assets and debts.
At Bates Family Law, Jeff, acting as a neutral, third party, educates each party of their rights under the law and of decisions they need to make. The parties craft their agreement from there. Each party makes decisions for themselves rather than having the court decide for them. Mediation is always voluntary and either party can discontinue the process at any time.
Importantly, the mediation process is nonbinding, so it is a risk-free way of exploring possible resolutions. Changed minds are not broken promises. The goal, and the difficult part, is to get couples to agreement. Once couples agree, putting those agreements down on legally binding paperwork is a simple process. Mediation can help facilitate difficult conversations, help couples better communicate with each other, and help them save money.
Couples usually save time, with mediation appointments made on each party’s time, as often as weekly and as long as several hours, as desired. Rather than setting dates months apart due to attorney and court availability, couples make steady progress through structured discussions about decisions to address in order to divorce in New York State.
There are a few situations in which mediation is not recommended. If either or both parties are suspected of hiding things such as assets or debts, mediation may not bring them to light. If there is a power imbalance or domestic abuse preventing one of the parties from advocating for themselves, mediation may not work. Or if both people become so entrenched in their positions and will not compromise despite attempts to mediate, they may require court intervention. In these cases, hiring an attorney may be best.
In most cases, however, mediation is highly effective and results in a high degree of compliance, helping couples better communicate with each other, which is important as they continue to converse about their children for the foreseeable future. Sensitive topics such as parenting and holiday schedules are discussed in structured, low-risk, non-binding terms until— hopefully—reaching mutually acceptable agreements.
Free mediation consultations are available. We are happy to answer your questions, discuss the mediation process and its value, and help you and your partner decide if mediation is right for your situation.
Bates Family Law offers a holistic, compassionate approach to family law, focusing on both short- and long-term outcomes to support you and your children through challenging times. Conveniently located between Rochester and Canandaigua, they serve clients across Monroe and Ontario Counties, providing free parking and a discreet entrance for privacy. Flexible meeting options, including phone and virtual conferences, ensure accessibility.
By choosing Bates Family Law, you gain a dedicated, empathetic team committed to your best interests, guiding you through the divorce process with expertise and care for the best possible outcomes.

SHOP LOCAL COMMUNITIES BENEFIT WHEN CONSUMERS
More money kept in the community
Shopping locally means that more money will stay in the community. According to recent research from Civic Economics, local eateries return nearly 79 percent of revenue to the community, compared to just over 30 percent for chain restaurants. Overall, for every $100 spent at a local business, around $73 remains in the community, versus roughly $43 when shopping at a non-locally owned business.
Get a personal touch
Local business owners typically are inclined to go the extra mile for their customers and are personally invested in the services and products they are selling. As a result, shopping locally tends to be a personalized experience. Furthermore, a local business owner may be more amenable to ordering products for specific clientele. Such personalized service is typically not accessible when shopping big box stores or other shops where owners are off-site.
Lines are short
Waiting in long lines for checkout or to pick up merchandise ordered online can drain consumers’ energy and contribute to stress. Local businesses tend to have short lines and small crowds, which can lead to a more pleasant shopping experience.
Generates tax revenue
Local businesses generate more tax revenue per sales dollar, according to Rubicon, a digital marketplace for waste and recycling businesses. Taxes paid by local small businesses go to support schools, parks, roads, and other programs that benefit the community as well.
Support non-profits
Local businesses often support good work in the community, such as non-profit groups. These can include schools and sports teams, among other groups. According to Dr. Sue Lynn Sasser, professor of economics at the University of Central Oklahoma, studies indicate non-profits “receive 250 percent more support from small businesses than larger ones.”
Support other local businesses
Local businesses support other local businesses by buying and selling among each other. A local, independently owned restaurant may source its ingredients from local farms, which means visitors to such eateries are supporting multiple local businesses each time they dine out.
Small
businesses are a
boon to the economy,
particularly local economies. These enterprises help their communities in a multitude of ways.
A family-owned haven for natural wellness
Acadia Canna & Kratom, established in 2019, is a locally owned family business that strives to educate the community by offering holistic alternative wellness practices for those experiencing pain, anxiety, or sleep disruption. The family started Acadia as a small boutique selling hemp-derived salves and tinctures that reduce inflammation and aid in pain management. Their passion for alternative practices stem from the mother in the family, one of the owners, needing spinal fusion surgery. She experienced the full benefits of the hemp plant firsthand through a strong topical CBD salve that reduced inflammation and helped her avoid surgery. The firsthand experience of CBD’s transformative power fuels the family’s passion to break the stigma on plantderived wellness practices and seeks to shift people’s perspectives to include unconventional approaches to achieving overall well-being.
Acadia is no stranger to consumer awareness and staying ahead of market trends. Within the first two years of business, Acadia expanded its inventory to include other plants such as kratom, kanna, and kava. Acadia remains at the forefront of the functional mushroom and
nootropics movement for health and wellness benefits. In 2024, Acadia customers queried employees about other products such as functional, non-hallucinogenic mushrooms, to reduce brain fog, increase mental clarity, and increase stamina energy. Mushroom varieties such as Reishi, Chaga, and Lion’s Mane are known to promote calm, focus, and overall wellbeing. As a result of consumer and employee input, Acadia is launching their flagship line, “Grow,” which includes various blends of nootropics and functional mushrooms to aid in sleep, mental clarity, and increase overall well-being.
Acadia demonstrates a strong commitment to community impact through fundraising, community service events, and donations. In the past year, Acadia has donated children’s gifts to the Golisano Children’s Hospital during the holiday season, musical instruments for the music therapy department at Holy Childhood, and books in other languages to the library at local hospitals. During the holidays, staff rally to gather toy donations and funds, which Acadia matches and delivers to children. During the Thanksgiving season, Acadia donates non-perishable goods to the food cupboards in each town where an Acadia location exists. Acadia also organizes city clean sweeps in the spring which are open to the entire community.
When customers step into an Acadia location, they enter a thoughtfully curated interior reflecting the company’s care and commitment to inclusivity. Each layout is designed and built by the owners, with carefully chosen wooden shelving and plants for the Acadia jungle-like interior. Succulent plant walls, tropical plants, curated light fixtures, and lo-fi instrumental music set the tone for the space and are hallmarks of the Acadia brand.
Acadia team members strive to educate each consumer on available products, the history of each plant, and the correct way to utilize products. The team’s depth of product knowledge is a point of pride. While the team cannot give medical advice, they are well-educated on the products and can explain potential interactions with customers’ daily medications. Transparency is a core value at Acadia – third party lab test results and certificates of analyses are available for every product.
Acadia has three New York locations – Monroe Avenue, Penfield, Victor – and one location in Stroudsburg, PA. Visit Acadia in-person or online for international shipping at Acadiacanna.com.
In the heart of Upstate New York, Advent Automotive has been serving the community with unwavering dedication and expertise for nearly 25 years. Joe Bevacqua and Michael Callarana are the driving forces behind Advent Automotive, a name synonymous with reliability, honesty, and exceptional automotive care. With a journey that started from a passion for “hot rods” in his youth, Joe has built a reputable establishment that stands out for its customer-centric approach and commitment to quality.
As owner and founder of Advent Automotive, Joe and Mike’s story is one of self-taught expertise and unyielding dedication. Fondly recalling his automotive beginnings at the age of 15, Joe has seen it all – from tearing his parents’ cars apart to mastering the art of auto mechanics through a Boys Scouts Explorer Program. From there, he climbed the ladder within a sponsoring company, transitioning from auto mechanic to Assistant Manager and finally to Manager. At the cusp of his late 30s, Joe ventured into the realm of entrepreneurship, creating Advent Automotive.
What sets Advent Automotive apart is its distinctive approach to business. Unlike many in the industry, Joe and Mike’s business operates on an hourly basis rather than commission-driven models. This ensures that every repair is prioritized based on necessity, eliminating any incentive for unnecessary services. With a bustling parking lot filled with cars and trucks in need of care, Advent Automotive handles an impressive average of 35-40 vehicles each day. The overwhelming demand led to the establishment of a second repair shop, expanding their service to the community.
Upstate New York’s harsh winters and salt-ridden roads present unique challenges for auto repair. Yet, Joe’s team thrives in this adversity, addressing rusted springs, deteriorated shock absorbers, warped brake rotors, and more. For Advent Automotive, tackling these challenges is a testament to their expertise, and they’re up for the task.
At the heart of Advent Automotive’s success lies the cornerstone of customer trust. Joe’s proudest moments come when a customer places their faith in
the business, dropping their keys on the counter with the assurance that their vehicle is in capable hands. This trust is earned through a commitment to integrity, as Joe, Mike, and their team approach every job with honesty and a dedication to genuine work.
Looking to the future, Joe and Mike’s ambitions remain unwavering. With a team of eleven dedicated employees, he envisions passing the torch to their sons and business partners, ensuring the legacy of Advent Automotive lives on for generations to come. Joe humorously contemplates scaling down his own role in the business, quipping that he might reduce his workload to “three days per week until he is about 90.”
Advent is more than just a repair shop; it’s an integral part of the community. Through sponsorships and partnerships with local events, schools, and emergency services, their business gives back to the community that supports it. From Log Days in Farmington/Victor to Cobblestone Performing Arts Center, from hockey to baseball teams, Advent Automotive is there, offering a helping hand. Advent also helps repair and maintain Farmington Ambulance, and Victor and Farmington Fire Department vehicles.
Advent Automotive is all about trust and assistance. From its humble beginnings rooted in passion to its present status as a pillar of trust and reliability, Advent Automotive is a testament to the power of commitment, expertise, and community spirit.

VICTOR DENTAL CARE
For over three decades, Victor Dental Care has been a steadfast pillar of oral health and wellness in the Victor community. Dr. Kevin Bolger and Dr. Meaghan Bolger have been the owners since 2021 but the practice was started in 1989 by Dr. Mark Tornatore. Under his supervision the practice evolved into a thriving office providing comprehensive care, a tradition the Bolgers plan to continue.
A local success, Dr. Kevin Bolger was once a patient of Dr. Tornatore and found his enthusiasm for dentistry through his experiences with local dentists during his schooling. He obtained his dental education at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, where he also met his wife, Meaghan. After nearly ten years of practice in Buffalo, the Bolger doctors returned to their origins, establishing themselves in Victor to pursue their common goal of providing exceptional dental care.
Victor Dental Care stands out as a beacon of excellence in the dental industry, driven by its commitment to thoroughness and patient comfort. At Victor Dental Care, a dedicated team blends advanced dental technology with a personal touch, ensuring a comforting experience. The doctors’ commitment to learning keeps the practice at the forefront of oral healthcare, creating a modern yet familiar atmosphere.
The heart of Victor Dental Care beats with a sense of unity and camaraderie among the staff, fostering a supportive environment that translates into exceptional patient care. From passionate hygienists who educate and empower patients about oral hygiene to compassionate assistants who guide patients through their treatments, every team member plays a crucial role in making your visit a positive one. The administrative team’s expertise in navigating insurance matters and addressing scheduling concerns adds another layer of seamless service.
The driving force behind Victor Dental Care’s success is deeply rooted in its dedication to the community. Drs. Bolger find inspiration in serving the very community they call home, helping patients enhance their oral health and confidence. This connection is particularly profound as they continue a family legacy of community service. Dr. Kevin Bolger’s grandfather served on the Victor Central Schools Board of Education for over thirty years and his mother was a teacher at Victor’s middle school for almost twenty years.
Victor Dental Care’s commitment extends beyond its office walls, reaching into the heart of the community. Across the street from the Victor Farmington Food Cupboard, Victor Dental Care regularly donates dental products and hosts food drives. The practice also participates in local events such as the village Halloween scarecrow contest and supports other local causes and organizations, underlining the practice’s dedication to making a positive impact beyond dentistry.
As part of its ongoing journey, Victor Dental Care aims to expand its presence as a vital dental care resource for the rapidly growing community.
The Bolgers’ personal goal of continuous learning reflects the practice’s unwavering dedication to offering the best possible care. With an open door to new patients, Victor Dental Care welcomes you to experience the pinnacle of dental excellence.
To all their cherished patients, Victor Dental Care expresses gratitude for their trust and support. For those seeking a dental home where modern expertise meets a welcoming, community-oriented approach, Victor Dental Care is just a phone call away at 585-924-8940, or you can visit their website at victordentalcare.com.

ON TARIO
Written by the COUNTY CHAMBER of COMMERCE
When people ask us, “What does the Ontario County Chamber of Commerce do?” — the short answer is: we help businesses thrive. But the full story is so much more meaningful.
The Ontario County Chamber (ONChamber) provides connection. We create opportunities for local businesses to meet, collaborate and build relationships that strengthen not just their operations, but our entire community.
“We’re here to be a resource, an advocate and a connector for the businesses and organizations that make Ontario County such a great place to live and work,” said Tracey Dello Stritto, president and CEO. “Our mission is to be a partner to our members and provide the support and connectivity needed to create a thriving economy — and we take that to heart every single day.”
ONChamber supports businesses of every size and industry. With more than 500 members, we serve solopreneurs working from home, growing non-profits, family-owned shops, the county’s largest employers –and everything in between.
“What a specific member needs may be different from what another member needs, and we understand that,” said Marisa Enzinna, director of member relations and communications. “We offer a wealth of programs and benefits — all designed to empower business and economic growth.”
Through professional development workshops covering topics such as human resources, marketing and workplace communication, we help members stay informed and connected to the broader business community.
Leadership development is a cornerstone of our work at ONChamber. One of our initiatives is Leadership Ontario, a 10-month program designed to cultivate both personal and professional growth. Participants work with a leadership coach and connect with peers from across industries, but what truly sets this program apart is its focus on community immersion. Through program days exploring topics such as local government, education, economic development and county demographics, participants gain a deeper understanding of the issues shaping Ontario County
— and how they can make a difference.
“We’re not just building better leaders for their companies,” said Tracey. “We’re building engaged leaders for our entire region.”
“In addition to helping businesses grow their leadership teams, we also love celebrating our members and telling their stories,” added Marisa. “Through Member Milestone Monday features, Chamber ON The Road visits and our Megaphone newsletter, we connect our members with the greater community and help raise their visibility.”
Recognizing that business success also depends on workplace well-being, we recently piloted a new partnership with Family Counseling Service of the Finger Lakes, offering mental health support for employers and employees alike.
“Mental health support is crucial to employee performance and retention,” said Marisa. “We’re thrilled to offer the EESS program for just $28 per employee per year — about the same as a single co-pay in other programs!”
We also strive to give our members a collective voice on the issues that matter most to them. This past May, the Chamber team traveled to Albany for our first Advocacy Day.
“It’s crucial that our elected officials know the concerns of business owners in our community,” said Tracey. “Before we visited Albany, we surveyed our members and brought those results directly to Senator Pam Helming, Assemblywoman Andrea Bailey and Governor Kathy Hochul’s office.”
This annual event is now a permanent part of our advocacy efforts.
Our work is driven by a bold vision: to be an essential pillar for business success, providing promotion, connectivity and advocacy that empowers business and economic growth in Ontario County. And that’s exactly what we aim to deliver through everything we do — from monthly networking mixers to leadership programs and marketing support.
Whether you’re launching a new venture, expanding your business or simply looking to connect, the Ontario County Chamber is here to help. Stop by our office –113 S. Main St., Canandaigua -- or visit www. onchamber.com to learn more.
VICTOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
OFFICE
We are an umbrella agency consisting of Economic Development, Victor Local Development Corporation, Discover Victor, NY and Community Events – serving as a one-stop shop for business resources.
Mission: To be the catalyst for a successful, strong, and thriving community.
Vison: Promote and lead local businesses through our innovative partnership created to be a single resource for business support.
Let’s break it down…
Economic Development is a department of the Town of Victor, located at the Victor Town Hall – 85 East Main Street. The Town of Victor appreciates the importance of retaining and attracting business to the area to maintain and grow the economic vitality of this community. The Town advanced those efforts by forming the Economic Development Department and funding the operations of the Victor Local Development Corporation.
Victor Economic Development representatives provide an array of services to assist with business start-up, expansion and relocation to Victor. We are able to accomplish this by partnering with economic development entities such as the Ontario County Economic Development Corporation, and the Victor Local Development Corporation to tailor the best possible incentive packages for our customers.
Victor Local Development (VLDC) - established in 1999 as a resource to revitalize the downtown area. The organization has spearheaded many initiatives focused on the Village of Victor. Those initiatives include recruitment of businesses, providing business support by offering low interest loans and acquiring grant dollars to fund building and streetscape improvements. These successful initiatives positioned the Victor LDC as the logical driver of economic development for the Village and Town of Victor. In 2014 the Town established the Economic Development Department and took on the financial responsibility for the VLDC. The Victor Local Development Corporation exists to further the Economic Development initiatives for the Town of Victor by providing low interest loans, façade improvement funding and administering grant funds from state and federal agencies to local businesses.
The VLDC is a 501(c)(4) corporation and oversight is provided by a seven member board of directors.
Discover Victor, NY – Facebook, Instagram, and a website promoting Victor businesses and community events. The social media initiative was started in 2023 to extend the reach on local events and business news. Multiple FB pages exist that were established by local residents and get muddled with other content. Discover Victor, NY is designed to focus on local Victor businesses and community/business events.

INDĒ HOME REMODELING
Intuitive design that inspires
In 2010, two local building companies – Morrell Builders and Pride Mark Homes – decided to reinvent the new-build and home remodel experience for customers. Jeff and Scott Morrell, along with James and James Barbato, Sr., combined their years of expertise to create an opportunity for people in the Rochester and Finger Lakes areas to build the homes of their dreams.
The Indē (intuitive + design) Studio came to life. Located at 1501 Pittsford Victor Road, Suite 300, Indē is so much more than a studio; it is a home new-build and remodeling business that prioritizes two values above all: customer service and craftmanship. Instead of homeowners having to go to multiple businesses for their designing/building needs, Indē created an all-inone avenue to achieve the perfect home. Now in their fourteenth year of business, the Indē Studio and its team are just beginning to make their mark.
Indē originally started as a company focused on kitchens and bathrooms, but in the past decade, the business has expanded its reach. Today, the Indē team can build or remodel entire first floors – from kitchens and bathrooms, to flooring, built-ins, laundry rooms, pantries, closet systems, and full basements. Indē is the complete package for homeowners in the Rochester and Finger Lakes region.
Indē prioritizes you, the customer. Their customercentered values have made them a top home design and remodel company in the region. Their genuine care, passion, and compassion in each project means
customers often return for future remodeling or design needs. The team acknowledges how designing a new kitchen or other living space can be an emotional and personal experience; building trust in the working relationship is of utmost importance to ensure the greatest, most rewarding outcomes.
With three lines of cabinetry (Wellborn Cabinet, Kountry Kraft, and Showplace) to choose from, granite, quartz, and tile countertops crafted by Roma Tile & Marble in Syracuse, and an array of flooring options, the possibilities are endless. The Indē team offers customers impressive options to make their renovations and new builds spectacular.
The common phrase “my dream home” exists for a reason. Whether customers build that dream from scratch or remodel a few rooms in the home they love, Indē is ready to help realize their vision. With experts in their craft, designers to consultants to installers, Indē offers customers a seamless collaborative process that helps ensure customers enjoy interesting and unique homes at an accessible price point.

DREAM MUTUAL
Comprehensive Medicare solutions with Louis Giuliano
Louis Giuliano, a partner at Dream Mutual, recognized a critical need for Medicare guidance among his clients. This realization led him to branch out and become an expert in Medicare services, offering comprehensive assistance to clients navigating the complexities of Medicare.
Medicare is a dynamic field, with new plans and changes introduced annually. Louis emphasizes the importance of staying informed. “There are around 25 or so options for Medicare Advantage plans, and every year there are small changes to new and existing plans. It’s crucial for people to ensure they are in the best plans for their needs.” He encourages regular reviews of Medicare plans, especially if there are significant changes in health conditions.
Now with six years of experience in the field, Louis’s Medicare services offer a client-focused approach. Louis prioritizes education and clarity over sales. Louis takes pride in offering unbiased advice, focusing on explaining options and providing information so clients can make informed decisions.
As an independent advisor, he doesn’t work for any insurance company. Instead, he is licensed with various products to provide clients with the best options for their needs and goals. He says, “I have the flexibility to offer what suits them best.” His goal is to match clients with plans that cover their doctors and prescriptions most effectively.
What drives Louis in his business is the satisfaction of knowing he is making a positive impact. “Helping people is the most important thing,” he says. “If I wasn’t adding value to the community, it would be a waste of time.” This dedication is evident in his favorite moments – when clients express their gratitude for his assistance. “When people thank me for how much I have helped them, that’s what means the most to me.”
Beyond his professional commitments, Louis is passionate about giving back to the community. He played soccer at St. John Fisher and now donates to their soccer program. Additionally, he supports Lollypop Farm, reflecting his love for animals and his family’s experience in adopting a pet from there. Dream Mutual Founder John Summers, a past president and current member of the Victor Farmington Rotary Club, also embodies this spirit of community involvement.
Louis’s dedication to helping clients navigate Medicare is unwavering, and he remains a reliable resource for those seeking clarity and confidence in their Medicare choices.
