2021 saw the continued growth of chef-owner Vincenzo Betulia’s culinary footprint in Southwest Florida. In April, North Naples welcomed a second location of downtown hotspot Bar Tulia with the opening of Bar Tulia Mercato, boasting a greatly expanded menu and outside dining, yet retaining the intimate atmosphere, renowned craft cocktails and culinary excellence of the original.

Back downtown, Betulia’s landmark The French Brasserie Rustique received a record number of guests, including many new residents of Naples who were enamored with the restaurant’s hallmark tree-lit courtyard, authentic brasserie fare and dedicated and welcoming service. Meanwhile, Osteria Tulia continued to be an essential destination in Naples dining.

HEART CARE

Physicians Regional Healthcare System’s cardiac surgery program recently earned a distinguished three-star rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for its patient care outcomes in coronary artery bypass grafting procedures. The three-star rating, which is the highest category for quality, places Physicians Regional among the elite for heart bypass surgery in the United States.

The top designation from STS, a national accreditation body for all cardiothoracic surgery programs in the country, comes just a year after establishing the heart surgery program in June 2020 with the addition of cardiothoracic surgeons, Drs. Dennis Stapleton and Scot Schultz.

The score is based on a variety of quality metrics surrounding patient outcomes, including low mortality and complication rates and other indicators. Only 6%, or 56 of 917 cardiac surgery programs nationwide, earned the distinction for bypass procedures.

Prior to launching the cardiothoracic program, Physicians Regional completed a multimilliondollar facility renovation that included two new cardiac operating rooms, three new cardiac cath labs, and specialized intensive care beds for preprocedure and post-procedure cardiac care.
