In this issue we give you some tips on how to successfully consult remotely. As usual, we also answer this quarter’s most Frequently Asked Questions and spotlight one of our outstanding Advisors. If you have questions or feedback, please reach out to let us know!

TOP ADVISOR FAQS OF THE QUARTER 1. How can I maximize the number of consulting opportunities that I receive?

2. How much will I be compensated for a completed consultation?

Keeping your Advisor profile up to date allows Guidepoint to identify which projects you are eligible for. Please be sure to provide detailed descriptions of your current and recent roles, including your specific responsibilities and accomplishments, in your Biography. You should also note any areas of specialized experience and knowledge. You can view and edit your profile at any time at the Guidepoint Advisor Portal.

Guidepoint issues your payment using the hourly rate noted on your profile (which you can view any time at the Advisor Portal) at the time when you accepted the project. Unless otherwise noted, payments are prorated by the minute based on the duration of your consultation (the total time that you and the client spend speaking with each other). Please note that all payments are issued from the US in US Dollars.

When you receive a project request, we recommend accepting as soon as possible to maximize your chance of being selected by the client. We find that Advisors who provide detailed 2-3 sentence screening responses are most likely to be selected. If you receive a project request that is not a good fit, please select “Decline� to help Guidepoint better understand the topics on which you can and cannot consult.

4. Can I refer a colleague to be a part of the Guidepoint Advisor network?

Yes, you can! All Advisors have the opportunity to refer colleagues. All referrals should be made through the Advisor Portal. If your referral is accepted into the network and has a paid client interaction within 6 months, then Guidepoint will issue you a referral bonus of US$100.

3. How can I contribute to the Guidepoint Advisor Blog?

If you are interested in contributing a post to the Guidepoint Advisor Blog, please email advisor.relations@guidepoint.com and note a topic that you would be interested in writing about if selected. Possible topics include recent industry and market trends, noteworthy disruptions, and long-term outlooks. Contributors hold senior roles in their industries/fields, and they have highly developed expertise on the topics that they write about. A Guidepoint representative will reach back out if they feel that you could be a good fit for the Advisor Blog. Please note that, while contributions are not compensated, they are a great opportunity to build your personal brand and receive recognition as an expert in your field.

5. Can I be both a Guidepoint Advisor and a Guidepoint client?

Yes, you can! After consulting with our clients, many Guidepoint Advisors see the value of our services firsthand and choose to become clients.

GETTING THE MOST OUT OF REMOTE CONSULTING It is no question that remote work is on the rise and becoming mainstream. COVID-19 is also effecting how almost all businesses operate. Even before the pandemic many people were choosing a remote work lifestyle over the traditional 9-5 office life. Working remotely offers so many benefits, the main one being a more flexible lifestyle. It also doesn’t have to be said that cutting out commuting lowers stress levels in those that work remotely. As a Guidepoint Advisor you already have a taste of the remote lifestyle as your interactions with us and clients are all done over the phone and computer. If you are thinking about working and consulting remotely full-time or part-time here are some tips to help you:

Know your work style One of the most important things is knowing your work style. Do you work better in complete silence or would you work better with some background noise like television or music? Chances are if you are new to remote work it might benefit you to have some background noise to mimic the noise levels of an office environment.

Something else to consider is if you’re an early bird or a night owl. Do you work better in the earlier hours of the day or later? This is another benefit of remote work, getting to choose the hours that are best for you.

Keep in touch in real-time When you’re a remote worker you need to be visible and productive. The existence of communication and collaboration Apps like Slack, Microsoft Teams, Skype and more help you with this. By being online and readily available, you can collaborate with clients in real-time and cut down on all the back and forth emails and meetings.

These apps are also a great way to maintain human connection while working remotely. We are social beings after all.

Learn to “Unplug” When working remotely it can be easy for the work-life balance line to start to blur. Making sure you stay conscious of work-life balance is extremely important so you do not burn yourself out. Set aside a time of the day where you officially log out whether it be 5 or 6pm. Let whoever you are working with know you are logging off for the day and turn off your work notifications. If you are working from a home office take a walk or take up a hobby that gets you out of the house and gets you moving.

MORE TIPS: • Set daily deadlines and work towards them.

• Get dressed up! Keep the same morning routine as if you are actually going into the office.

• Don’t be afraid to take breaks. Get up and move around.

• Meal prep! In can be tempting to cook full meals working from home with a full kitchen at your disposal. However, you should try to prep your meals the night before, so you aren’t using work time on non-work related tasks.

• Last but not least, invest in your workspace. Your workspace should be a place you enjoy and where you can be more productive.

How long are they willing to support it? Remember, transformation is a process that can take years, not months. What amount of change will the culture of the organization truly support? How will the leader complement other members of the team each day and enhance their performance? What is the risk that a transformational leader be rejected by the organization?

Consider your own experience with identifying and hiring a transformational leader. How quickly did they build a new box? What could have been done better or differently to accelerate their success? Are other leaders also building a new box now? Are they operating in concert or in conflict? Answering these questions presents an opportunity to discuss your people strategy.

As you work to build a positive, mission-driven culture, think about the impact that transformative leaders can make in your organization. To ensure the success of every leader, organizations must be clear about the type of leader they need in every role.
