TOP ADVISOR FAQS OF THE QUARTER 1. How can I maximize the number of consulting opportunities that I receive?

2. How much will I be compensated for a completed consultation?

Keeping your Advisor profile up to date allows Guidepoint to identify which projects you are eligible for. Please be sure to provide detailed descriptions of your current and recent roles, including your specific responsibilities and accomplishments, in your Biography. You should also note any areas of specialized experience and knowledge. You can view and edit your profile at any time in the Guidepoint Advisor Portal.

Guidepoint issues your payment using the hourly rate noted on your profile (which you can view at any time in the Advisor Portal) at the time when you accepted the project. Unless otherwise noted, payments are prorated by the minute based on the duration of your consultation (the total time that you and the client spend speaking with each other). Please note that all payments are issued from the US in US Dollars.

When you receive a project request, we recommend accepting as soon as possible to maximize your chance of being selected by the client. We find that Advisors who provide detailed 2-3 sentence screening responses are most likely to be selected. If you receive a project request that is not a good fit, please select “Decline” to help Guidepoint better understand the topics on which you can and cannot consult.

4: How can I contribute to the Guidepoint Advisor Blog?

A: If you are interested in contributing a post to the Guidepoint Advisor Blog, please email advisor.relations@guidepoint.com and note a topic that you would be interested in writing about if selected. Possible topics include recent industry and market trends, noteworthy disruptions, and long-term outlook. Contributors hold senior roles in their industries/fields, and they have highly developed expertise on the topics that they write about. A Guidepoint representative will reach back out if they feel that you could be a good fit for the Advisor Blog. Please note that, while contributions are not compensated, they are a great opportunity to build your personal brand and receive recognition as an expert in your field.

5. Can I refer a colleague to be a part of the Guidepoint Advisor network?

A: Yes, you can! All Advisors have the opportunity to refer colleagues. All referrals should be made through the Advisor Portal. If your referral is accepted into the network and has a paid client interaction within 6 months, then Guidepoint will issue you a referral bonus of US$100.

INTRODUCING OTHERS TO THE NETWORK If you are reading this newsletter you are a Guidepoint Advisor and you already know the value that being in the network brings — being able to make money by sharing your personal knowledge, writing blogs and participating in virtual roundtables. However you may want to introduce someone else to these benefits. Below are some talking points to help you explain to someone what being an advisor means and the benefits that come along with it: A subject matter expert is someone who consults on behalf of expert networks. They hail from different industries and sectors, and each brings valuable expertise to those who need it most. With millions of people having joined expert networks, it begs the question why should someone join one now and become an advisor? There are many reasons why people join expert networks and one of the main reasons is:

Professors, Doctors, Analysts, and many more professionals want to watch the world learn, and by being part of something bigger like an expert network they can push those goals even further. One may argue the main reason people join expert networks is for the money, which may be true for some. However, the fact is some of these experts do this work pro bono or even donate their earnings to organizations that are doing great things for our world.

You are joining a community of thinkers and doers who are pushing for the world to learn.

Sharing your knowledge with the people that need it most is an extremely fulfilling experience. Doing that and being able to get paid as well is a bonus. As a Guidepoint Advisor you yourself set up your own consultation rates and you get to do it on your own time. Whether it’s consulting on behalf of an expert network like Guidepoint, driving for Uber, or delivering for DoorDash, people around the world are seeing the value in having a “side hustle”.

When you join an expert network like Guidepoint, you will hear thoughts on a wide range of topics and ideas from your fellow advisors through blogs and newsletters that you yourself can also contribute to. Many advisors themselves also see the value in an expert network and in-turn end up becoming clients themselves.

Sharing knowledge is one of the most valuable things a person can do with their time. You may think your industry is boring and no one will have any use to the things you are an expert on, but that is simply not true. No matter how niche the industry is, we guarantee we have an expert on it, and someone will have a need for insight into it.

ADVISOR SPOTLIGHT This quarter we are excited to highlight Lloydette Bai-Marrow, an anti‑corruption expert and lawyer, with extensive experience working with companies and institutions to develop effective strategies to tackle fraud, bribery and corruption. Lloydette was a former Principal Investigative Lawyer for the Serious Fraud Office and was responsible for providing legal advice and practical leadership on some of the most serious cases of top tier fraud, bribery and corruption in the UK and abroad. She is a respected and sought after expert in her field and she regularly provides expert insight and analysis to a range of organisations including top investment banks, strategic consultancies, asset managers and hedge funds.

Does Your Organizational Culture Produce “Brave and Bold” Employees?

During the past few tumultuous months, the idioms about “a bad apple” or “a few bad apples” have been heard often in relation to law enforcement practices in the United States. Those idioms — and the proverb “one bad apple spoils the whole barrel” — are also relevant to the discourse about business integrity, and nurturing an organizational culture of ethical The right behavior.

While those who speak up may be motivated by a number of factors (both positive and negative), the decision to do so often marks the end of their career — unfortunately, with a myriad of other consequences for their lives and wellbeing. Yet they are a vital part of the ethical ecosystem of any organization. When leaders fail to embody their ethical values and principles in every area, a consequence is that employees who see the bad apples do nothing. The rot sets in, structures start to decay, and systems begin to fail.

Many organizations cultivate a “speak up” culture backed up by non-retaliation policies, and much progress has been made. However, those who speak up are often exposed and penalized instead of protected.

They are seen as a threat to doing business and to the way things are done, the status quo. Yet they are the ones with everything to lose and little to gain.

In the aftermath of the pandemic, when many indicators all point towards a notable increase in fraud and related behaviors, ethical organizations are going to need employees to be brave and bold — who speak up when they see egregious conduct.

Leaders can start by considering the three “R”s when faced with those who speak up in the midst of a crisis:

React – Employees may be forced to escalate their concerns outside the organization when its leaders will not even acknowledge the existence of those concerns, regardless of their validity. Reacting does not always mean starting a full investigation. But it does mean reassuring those who have spoken up that they have been heard.

ADVISOR SPOTLIGHT (CONT.) Respond – Organizations will often have hotlines, an internal reporting hierarchy, training manuals, and comprehensive systems and procedures, yet still earn criticism for failing to respond, or respond in a meaningful way. An effective response is one that distills all the relevant factors in a constructive and timely manner and sets out a clear plan of action.

Remediate – Every crisis can be made worse — much worse — by a “head in the sand” mentality. Follow through on the organization’s plan of action and do what is necessary to turn the situation around. Take the steps needed to ensure that organizational values and principles remain intact. That is ethical leadership in action.

Identifying transformative leaders involves an ongoing discussion around the meaning of transformation. It’s important to pinpoint whether the organization is seeking an improvement minded leader or a disruptor. Does the organization need a leader who will think “outside the box” or “build a new box”?

What is the appetite of the board, CEO, community, employees and other key stakeholders for real transformation for the organization? Transformation is a process that can take years.

You have to know what amount of change the culture of the organization will truly support.

How will the leader complement other members of the team each day and enhance their performance? You must think about the possible risks of a new leader being rejected by the organization.

As you work to build a positive, mission-driven culture, you have to think about the impact that transformative leaders can make in your organization. To ensure the success of every leader, organizations must be clear about the type of leader they need in every role. Taking the time to understand what talent you need up-front before hiring a new leader will pay dividends.
