WINTER HIGHLIGHTS
Winter Season from 15 December 2025 - 8 March 2026

LET'S CHERISH TIME, TOGETHER

This year, we add a playful touch as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Pink Panther film, shot at the Palace. Much like this timeless character, the Gstaad Palace has always had a sense of humour, charm, and lightness that make it truly special.
I personally witnessed parts of the filming here at the Palace, an experience that remains one of my fondest childhood memories.
For many of us, the Palace is more than just a place to stay, it is a world of its own, almost like a movie set filled with fascinating characters, be they guests or employees. It is a place where
stories unfold every day, where friendships are made, and where each season brings its own sparkle.
Whether it is a great encounter, a funny incident, a memorable evening, a lasting relationship, or simply a wonderfully relaxing day, there is always something that makes this place feel alive.
As you read through these pages, I hope you will sense that same spirit, a blend of warmth, curiosity, and a few delightful surprises along the way. We look forward to welcoming you back for the Winter Season, beginning on the 15th of December.
Sincerely,
Andrea Scherz

WELCOME TO THE GSTAAD PALACE

Anna Siroka, Executive Assistant Manager Sales & Marketing
When Anna Siroka took a break from her very successful career in one of Switzerland’s leading luxury hotels, she knew she would only come back to something truly special. This makes it an extraordinary honour for us to welcome her as our new Executive Assistant Manager Sales & Marketing.
Anna, what was your journey to becoming Executive Assistant Manager Sales & Marketing at the Gstaad Palace?
Even as a child, I was fascinated by beautiful hotels. I always wanted to spend time in the lobbies of luxury hotels, for some reason, that is where I felt most at home. So, a career in the hotel industry came naturally to me. I had the privilege of being part of the opening team at Park Hyatt Zurich, later continued my education in communications, marketing, and PR, and then spent nine years at the Dolder Grand in Zurich. There, I moved through different levels and gained comprehensive experience. After taking a break, I knew I would only return for something truly special and iconic. And that is how I arrived at the Gstaad Palace.
What attracted you to our hotel?
I have been visiting Gstaad for many years and love the region, the nature, the openness, and the atmosphere. The Palace is an icon of hospitality – as a guest, I was always captivated by the unique spirit of this family run house. But the decisive factor for my “yes!” to the Palace was Andrea Scherz: he leads the hotel in the third generation with heart, passion, and a genuine interest in people. His way of being present and connected with the team, combined with his generosity in thought and action, left a deep impression on me.
What are your main goals as Director of Sales & Marketing?
My goal is to make its unique atmosphere and spirit even more visible. To tell the story of the Palace values,
traditions, and history in such a way that people connect with the hotel across generations. At the same time, being close to the team is very important to me: to support, encourage, and empower them, so that everyone can unfold their strengths.
Where do you see your main contribution to the Palace?
My contribution lies in making the unique atmosphere of the Palace tangible and creating experiences that guests can find only here. We want to create moments that become memories – the feeling of arriving, of being at home, and at the same time of being part of something extraordinary. When people connect emotionally with the hotel, sustainable growth follows – not only in numbers but also in the radiance and soul of the brand.
What are the biggest trends or opportunities you see in our industry right now?
Guests today are looking for authenticity and genuine encounters. Luxury today is all about individuality, sustainability, and well-being; about depth, meaning, and uniqueness. At the same time, guests travel more consciously, stay longer, and increasingly seek second home experiences. For hotels like the Palace, these trends are a great opportunity to combine authenticity with innovation and to deepen our position ourselves as both a traditional house and a forward thinking brand.
What excites you most about your new team?
There is great diversity within the team: everyone brings their own strengths, perspectives, and experiences. This variety makes us creative, vibrant, and full of ideas. At the same time, I feel a strong sense of energy and momentum – young, hands-on, solution-oriented. Everyone is ready to jump in, react with agility, and find solutions together. This mix of creativity, professionalism, and pragmatism is what empowers strong hotels.
Can you describe your leadership style in one sentence?
Cooperative and coaching – I involve the team in decisions, encourage ownership and innovation, and empower everyone to grow through responsibility.
What inspires you outside of work?
I am inspired by learning new things, staying open, and remaining curious. I value exchanges with people and different perspectives. Personally, I aim to regularly shift perspectives – even in challenging situations. It helps me to see the positives and to draw something valuable from every experience. Sports and meditation give me additional energy, clarity, and balance. I also draw a lot of inspiration from culture, music, and art – they open up new worlds and spark my creativity.
Do you have a favourite place or location at the Palace?
The Piscine. In summer, I often swim my laps there or enjoy the sun with an after-work snack. I especially love the atmosphere – the mix of locals, hotel guests, chalet residents, and employees. It is great to meet everyone in a non-work setting; it allows for deeper connection and lends the place a very unique quality.
Looking ahead, what do you hope to achieve in your first year with us?
My main goal is to build strong trust and foster a spirit of collaboration across all teams. I want to move away from silo thinking and create a culture where we look at the bigger picture, our shared goal. When we work together in this way, supporting and empowering one another, we can achieve so much. This joy and energy strengthen the team from within – and translate directly into memorable guest experiences.
GSTAAD PALACE GOES PINK
In the late summer of 1975, the tranquil elegance of Gstaad was about to play host to a touch of Hollywood mischief. The “Return of the Pink Panther” starring the inimitable Peter Sellers was set to premiere in Europe and not in Paris or London, but right here at the Gstaad Palace, where much of the film had been shot.
It was Peter Sellers himself who brought the Palace and its legendary GreenGo nightclub into the heart of a major motion picture. By then, Sellers was one of the most recognisable faces in cinema, thanks to his role as Inspector Jacques Clouseau the hapless detective whose genius lies as much in accident as in deduction. Directed, produced, and co-written by Gstaad resident Blake Edwards, the film saw Clouseau chasing a jewel thief and the fabled Pink Panther diamond straight into the marbled halls and chandeliers of the Palace.
The Palace played its role with flair. There was Clouseau, tumbling fully clothed into the hotel’s brand-new indoor pool, then later strutting onto the GreenGo dance floor in his 1970s finest kipper tie, Zapata moustache, and sideburns to match. For audiences, it was escapist fantasy. For those in Gstaad, it was almost documentary. Guests were delighted to appear as extras, and while the Pink Panther diamond was a work of fiction, the Palace was no stranger to dazzling jewels.

Peter Sellers filmed in our pool
Among the highlights: the 47-carat sister stone of the famed Topkapi emerald and a necklace featuring three sapphires weighing a combined 150 carats. Security was discreet but intense; legend had it that behind every glittering vitrine stood a man in plain clothes.
During the filming, life and art blurred.
Andrea Scherz, just six years old at the time, remembers standing for hours by the Palace entrance, watching Blake Edwards and his stars film take after take.
In the early 1970s, Gstaad had become a magnet for the world’s elite and for the luxury houses catering to them. Parisian jewellers arrived with cases full of extraordinary stones for clients who might have forgotten their sapphires or fancied a change of diamonds. On one occasion, the Palace hosted what the Tribune de Genève breathlessly called “la plus fameuse collection de bijoux du monde” — a treasure guarded by “les gorilles du Général de Gaulle.”

Shooting an epic scene inside the Restaurant

Sellers, heavily burdened with props, would stumble again and again through the revolving door before being rescued by a bellboy, to whom he had deadpan: “Tell me, how long have you been a bellboy?” One-night, mysterious pink footprints appeared across the village. Rumours spread quickly, especially after word got out that a diamond on display at the Palace had been “stolen.” The village policeman, Chlaus Küng, investigated alongside Clouseau himself, until the truth emerged: it was all part of the act, a story within the story, designed to amuse the locals.

Chlaus Küng, the real village policeman (right), was truly engaged for the film
When Clouseau “solved” the case, Sellers was made an honorary member of the Gstaad police force, a gesture as charming as it was surreal. It was only fitting, then, that the film’s premiere took place on the Palace terrace.
That summer evening, the guest list glittered almost as brightly as the jewels: Julie Andrews and her husband, director Blake Edwards; Henry Mancini, the composer of the iconic Pink Panther theme; Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton; Curd Jürgens; Tony Adams; and, of course, Peter Sellers himself.
As midnight fell, wool blankets were handed out to ward off the alpine chill, and Julie Andrews began to sing Moon River. But the night was not without its own Clouseau-style twist: when Liz Taylor, seated in the front row, loudly complained the music was too loud, Henry Mancini in a moment entirely unscored turned to her and, quite unmusically, told her to “Shut up!”
In true Pink Panther fashion, the evening ended not with a scandal, but with a laugh the kind of story that still drapes the Palace in a little Hollywood sparkle half a century later.

A BLOOMING PALACE, INSIDE OUT

Andreas and Marlene, Master Florists
They keep the Palace in bloom: meet our florists, Andreas Hülck and Marlene Jäger. Masters of their craft, they bring floral joy even in winter and share their passion — along with the secret to true flower happiness.
Marlene and Andreas, what first inspired you to work with flowers and plants?
MJ: Growing up on a farm, surrounded by fields and flowers, I quickly developed a love for working with plants.
AH: For me, it started at my grandfather’s funeral. I was captivated by the florist and the beautiful flowers and decided: one day, I will be a florist.
When do you start planning for the seasons?
MJ: Ideas come all year, but proper planning begins at the end of each season so we can start the next with energy.
AH: I am always thinking ahead. By the end of each season, we review upcoming events and the needs of different departments.
Which season or event is your favourite to design for?
AH: Each season is special — summer outdoors in the Palace Garden, winter with cosy Christmas decorations. I love them all.
MJ: My new favourite is the redesigned Salle Expo. Its colours give me perfect freedom for floral creations.
What feelings do you want to evoke with your arrangements?
AH: I want guests to feel at home and happy. Flowers bring joy, especially to children.
MJ: For me, flowers spark memories and smiles, creating well-being and appreciation.
Where do you draw inspiration?
MJ: My training in colour theory, plus moods and spontaneous ideas.
AH: From real life — suppliers, nature, and my own imagination.
How do you balance personal style with the Palace’s atmosphere?
MJ: I add creative accents while ensuring
harmony with the Palace’s luxury.
AH: Gstaad has a cosy mountain style, natural yet modern — for example different from St. Moritz’s minimal look.
Pro tips for keeping flowers fresh?
MJ: Careful handling, fresh water with diagonal cuts, indirect light, and regular checks.
AH: In hotels, flowers must look alive daily. We check each plant, avoid overusing fertiliser, and replace only when needed.
Biggest logistical challenge?
MJ: Ensuring availability and timing so fresh flowers are always at hand.
AH: Having everything ready for opening day. We prepare long-lasting arrangements first, then plan step by step.
Do you collaborate with other departments?
MJ: Yes, from F&B to Housekeeping, Events, and Guest Relations.
AH: We have clear rules, but also freedom. For special projects like Christmas trees, managers’ approval is needed.
Do you test designs before the season?
MJ: We create mood boards and prototypes to check cost and technique.
AH: I sometimes prepare a mock-up for my manager, Michaela. So far, it has always been a yes.

WELCOMING WINTER
Dear Winter,
We write with delight in our heart, For soon, your performance is due to start.
The halls are adorned, the fires aglow, Awaiting your entrance, your whisper of snow. Our windows wear frost like glittering lace, As candlelight flickers with delicate grace.
The mountains stand tall, the skies hold their breath, Awaiting your dance, your stillness, your depth.
The spa is a haven, serene and refined, A place to let go, to soften the mind. In the kitchen, the chefs compose their score, A menu of comfort, indulgence, and more.
The chalets are quiet, the slopes lie bare,
But soon they will echo with joy in the air.
Your snowflakes will twirl, your silence will sing, Transforming the valley with each gentle wing.
We have polished the glasses, turned down the bed, Hung garlands of pine and ribbons of red.
The staff wear a sparkle, a smile, a cheer
All ready to welcome your wonder each year. So don your white cloak, step into the light, And cast your cool magic across every night.
Gstaad is your theatre, the curtains are wide And here at the hotel, we wait with pride.
With warmth and wonder, Gstaad Palace

In this interview, he takes you behind the scenes of our magical hotel – and the filming of The Return of the Pink Panther.
What inspired you to become a maître d’?
During my summer break as a student in 1960, I worked as a commis at the Hotel Britannia in Cesenatico, my hometown, where I discovered the fascinating world of hospitality. I decided to enrol in the Hotel School in Stresa, and that was that.
What was your journey at the Gstaad Palace?
After my first winter season at the Gstaad Palace in 1968 - 1969, Monsieur Mordasini, the legendary maître d’ at the time, told me to return for the summer season. I accepted, and the years just flew by! I still thank the good Lord for all the wonderful experiences I had in this unique hotel.
Can you describe the atmosphere at the Palace in the 1970s?
The Palace was a simple and elegant hotel. Every department had exceptional staff, and everything was overseen in grand style by the
Scherz family and the remarkable management that supported us. All of this gave the hotel a warm, family-like atmosphere – always with great discretion.
The Palace has always welcomed an international crowd, including celebrities, artists, and many others. Are there any encounters that stand out for you?
I remember the filming of The Return of the Pink Panther very well; it was an infernal but wonderfully organised chaos. The atmosphere amongst the staff, the actors, directors, and all the technicians was fantastic. The assistant director would stop every morning in the middle of that chaos and say: “First things first, good morning.” And I remember thinking that Monsieur Peter Sellers was funnier on set than in the film.
What is the secret to mastering the art of service as a maître d’?
In our hotel, “no” is not an acceptable answer. The maître d’ and staff always try to fulfil every wish, always.
If you could relive one single evening or event at the Palace from your time there, which would it be, and why?
The opening night of The Return of the Pink Panther! It was held at the Gstaad cinema;

afterwards, on our lobby terrace, Henry Mancini and his grand orchestra performed. He had placed the drums at the front of the orchestra, and in the first row of the audience sat Liz Taylor. The drummer was pounding away, and Liz signalled to Henry Mancini that it was too loud for her. The Maestro’s response was simply, “shut up.”

Looking at the Palace today, what changes stand out to you the most?
The world changes, and so does the Palace –and I think for the better. The renovations in the different departments have been very successful, and the staff are impressively efficient and highly motivated. Bravo!

At the Gstaad Palace, food and hospitality have always gone hand in hand. This season, one of the hotel’s most iconic spaces has opened a new chapter: after 15 years, Le Grand Restaurant has been given a fresh look.
The redesign was entrusted to the renowned architectural duo Fischbach & Aberegg, who approached the task with great sensitivity to the hotel’s heritage. The result is a space that feels both timeless and contemporary. Warm materials, stylish furniture, and carefully integrated historical details create an ambience that combines elegance, comfort, and understated luxury perfectly in tune with the spirit of the Palace.

Yet beyond the new appearance, it is the culinary philosophy that continues to define Le Grand. Staying true to tradition while embracing new inspirations, the menu offers an impressive 75 dishes.

Guests will find beloved Palace classics alongside signature creations and an expanded choice of dishes prepared directly at the table. This approach reflects what has always been at the heart of the Palace’s cuisine: authenticity, freshness, and the freedom of choice for every guest.
What truly sets the experience apart, however, is the art of service. Few places still celebrate “service à table” in the way the Gstaad Palace does a performance that is as much about theatre as it is about taste.
At the heart of the dining room, skilled service staff prepare dishes with precision and flair, creating a sensory experience that delights young and old alike. With its renewed design, refined offerings, and living tradition of hospitality, Le Grand continues to embody what makes the Gstaad Palace so special: a place where history and innovation meet, and where every meal becomes a moment to remember.

We are delighted to announce that Le Grand was awarded 15 Gault&Millau points
