TheCOSMHHMIInclusiveExcellenceFacultyFellowsforPeerObservationofTeachingwilldesignand implementacollege-wideprogramforpeer-observationofteaching Theintentistoprovidean equitableprocessthatprovidesformativefeedbackintendedtoaidfacultyinimprovingthequality oftheirteaching. Thefeedbackmayalsobeutilizedintheannualevaluationandpromotion processesifsodesiredbythefacultymember. ThefellowwillservefortwoacademicyearsfromFall 2024throughSpring2026includingdevelopmentandplanningworkduringSummer2024and2025. TheFellowwillworkcloselywithnewlyhiredandearlycareerpermanentfaculty(estimated8-10 facultyperyear).Compensationforthefellowincludesastipendforthesummereffortsin2024and onecoursereleaseeachacademicyear. The College of Science and Mathematics has contracted with Hanover Research, a grant development firm headquartered in Arlington, VA, to provide grant consultant services to COSMfaculty.
Through their review process, Hanover grant consultants provide key insights into funding priorities and recommendations for improvement, increasing the competitiveness of grant proposalstofederalagenciesandtoprivateandnon-profitfoundations.
Our contract provides access to the Hanover Higher Education Grants Queue. In this program,weareprovidedaccesstotheportfolioofavailableconsultingservicesina“linear” queue – meaning only one project is being worked on at a time. Using this queue, it will be essential that faculty have continual conversations with the Dean’s Office, specifically Dr. Brent Feske, Associate Dean for Research as Brent manages the COSM queue. The COSM College Office of Undergraduate Research(COUR)invitesstudentproposalsforthe 2024-25 COUR Student Research Awards These awardsaredesignedtosupportundergraduate research in COSM by enhancing experiential learningforstudents Awardsupto$2500willbe made to the best submitted proposals to cover the following:
Up to $800 for travel associated with the researchproject(withtheexceptionof conferencetravel);
Up to $1200 for an undergraduate student stipend;and Upto$1000forequipmentandmaterials.

Doyouhaveanoutstandingundergraduateresearchstudentthatdeserves recognition for their scholarly achievement? If so, encourage them to apply for the COSM Transcript Notation for Dean’s Recognition as a Research Scholar. This transcript notation provides evidence that a student has demonstrated excellence in scientific research and certifies that a student has achieved proficiency in a set of research and scholarly benchmarks as outlinedbytheCollege.
Toqualify,astudentmust:
Conduct research with a COSM faculty member for at least two semestersandearnatotalofatleastthreeresearchcredithours; Attendandpresenttheirresearchataprofessionalmeeting;and Prepareawrittenproduct(researchthesis).
Applications must be submitted four weeks before graduation for the notationtoberecognizedatgraduationwithacord,butstudentscanapply anytimewithinsixmonthsaftergraduation.
