IampleasedtoannouncethatStephenGreimanhasacceptedthepositionofAssociateDeanfor ResearchandGraduateStudiesstartingJanuary,2026,aftercompletinghisFulbrightFellowsin Vietnam

GeorgiaSoutherncontinuestoworkthroughthebudgetprioritizationprocessfortheFY2027budget EachdivisionwillpresenttheirbudgetrequeststoPresidentMarreroandtheCabinetsoon. Early indicationsarethatsomeofCOSM’sbudgetrequestsareincludedintheAcademicAffairsrequests. I don’thavethespecificdetails,butIcontinuetobeoptimisticaboutourrequests. Additionally,COSM received$45,000asaone-timereimbursementfortheextraoverloadsandadjunctsneededtocover thelargerthananticipatedFall,2026enrollment. Eachcollegewasreimbursedforoverloadsand adjunctsinlowerdivisioncoursesonlyaswescrambledtoaccommodatethelargestfreshmanclassin GeorgiaSouthernhistoryaswellasextraenrollmentdemandsatthesophomorelevelfromthe80.4% retentionratefromlastyear’sfreshmanclass.

Afterallthedusthassettled,thefallenrollmentnumbersareessentiallyfinalized. Herewhere things currentlystand:

GeorgiaSouthernoverallenrollment-29,634students(up80%)

Armstrongtotalenrollment-5,167students(up43%)

Graduatetotalenrollment-4,038students(up32%)

Newfreshmanundergraduateenrollment-5,989students(up182%)

COSMOverallenrollment-2,71students(up13.7%)

Armstrongtotalenrollment-496students(up15.3%)

Graduateoverallenrollment-136students(up7.9%)

Newfreshmanundergraduateenrollment-674(up21.4%)

ThegraphshowsCOSMoverallfall enrollmentbycampusfrom2018. WhiletheoverallCOSMenrollment isstilldownascomparedtoFall 2018,wearereboundingnicelynow. Itwillbeimportanttocontinuethis momentummovingforward

JoinProfessorMichelleJ Eady,currentFulbrightScholaratColumbusState,foranengagingand thought-provokingsessionthatbringstolightthesimilaritiesbetweenHighImpactPractices(HIPs)and Work-IntegratedLearning(WIL)acrossAustralia,Canada,andnowtheUS Withdecadesofexperience toshare,DrEadywillexplorehowtheHElandscapeneedsSoTLmorethanever,andshareanexample ofhowthe principlesofexperientiallearning,communityengagement,andstudentvoicecancome togethertomakepositivechange!

OurfirstsessionofthefallwillbeonThursday,October16thfrom12:30to1:30pm Thissessionwillbe focused on implementing and interpreting mid-semester student feedback surveys. Faculty are invited to bring their lunch and contribute to the discussion. Participation will count as part of the 'Evidence Based Teaching' badge track for those that are working on it, but it is open to all COSM faculty (and other programs/departments that may be interested, so please invite other colleagues!).

The Department of Biomedical Sciences participated in Eagle Preview over the weekend, joined by Dr. MarkdelaCerna(BCP),Dr.MitchWeiland(BCP,andDr.ScottMateer(Biology).Studentswhostoppedby had the chance to take part in some fun hands-on experiments and activities. It was a great turnout andaverysuccessfulevent!

Last week, Dr. Georgianne Moore (Biology) and members of her lab team worked on processing tree samplescollectedfromSapeloIsland.Theirresearchinvolvesharvestingentiretreesandanalyzingleaves andbranchestomeasureoverallbiomass,leafarea,leaftraits,andsaltcontentinbothleavesandstems.
