COSM NEWS
On Saturday, October 11, 2025, the TERPS Club and Dr. Kathryn Craven (Biology) participated in the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography’s Marine Science Day with our terrapins. The event was a great success, drawing many families and several alumni who now work with conservation nonprofit organizations.

When it comes to outbreaks whether from known or emerging pathogens preparedness is the foundationforarapidandeffectiveresponse.
Dr. Lorenza Beati (School of Earth, Environment and Sustainability) co-leads a USDA-ARS sponsored project in Uganda focused on building that preparedness by training students and public health professionalstorespondtotick-bornediseases
IncollaborationwithDr IanGoodheadfromSalfordUniversity(UK),theteamlaunchedthefirstinaseries of workshops hosted by Dr. Patrick Vudriko and his students at the RTC Laboratory, Makerere University (Kampala).
Theworkshopcoveredtwokeytopics:
Tickbehavior,ecology,identification,andclassification
OxfordNanoporeTechnologiessequencingandbasicdataanalysis
This collaborative effort marks an important step toward strengthening local and global capacities for managingtick-bornediseaseoutbreaks.
