WELCOME FRIENDS, SUPPORTERS, AND ADVOCATES - WE ARE THRILLED TO HAVE YOU JOINING THIS YEAR’S IMPACT GALA! In recent months, we’ve wrestled with tremendous changes in how we pursue our mission of helping Portlanders experiencing homelessness. COVID-19 has forced us to strike a new balance in our deeply connected work by being present in new ways. To safeguard the health of our team and the hundreds of people we assist each day, we’ve adopted new safety protocols, adjusted our engagement strategies and found ways to create physical distancing in our work. With an operating model based on establishing close connections, these have been challenging adjustments. But they’ve been successful, allowing us to continue operations across the full range of the agency’s services. While I’m grateful to see our work continue, there’s no escaping the fact that the road ahead will be rough. Jobs have disappeared, savings have evaporated, and rental debts have soared, pushing ever more people towards the brink of homelessness. But in trying to imagine our world anew, my spirits are buoyed by faces like the ones you see here of George and Delia, two of the first residents of our new, deeply-affordable housing development, Argyle Gardens. Both moved out of shelter and into apartments of their own in the midst of this pandemic – a perfect illustration of resilience in the face of great adversity. As we look ahead to an uncertain future, the Transition Projects team will continue to draw inspiration from George, Delia, and the more than 1,000 others we’ve helped into housing over the past year. With your support tonight, we can continue to build a future where all our neighbors have a place to call home. Thank you for helping make that future a reality! With great appreciation,

George Devendorf Executive Director
