Who was your model? Surely my uncle, Pietro Cerrotta. He is one of the oldest hoteliers on Capri Island and his experience developed over the years spent meeting and getting to know writers, artists and actors of his times. What have you learned from him? His simple and informal hospitality became a trademark of our business. My brother Domenico and I try to offer our guests the same kind of friendly hospitality. Along with the San Felice, Pietro Cerrotta also ran his restaurant at Torre Saracena and the Weber with great passion. Those were the fabulous 1950s and celebrities such as Clark Gable, King Faruk of Egypt, Tza Tza Gabor, Aristotele Onassis and Maria Callas used to spend their vacations on the island and were patrons of the restaurant. What else do you remember? Gloria Magnus, former dancer from England, who was in love with the island and uncle Pietro, known as ‘Uocchie Argiento’ because of his silver-blue eyes. The simple and refined ambiance was her idea. She was our uncle’s companion and shared his fame in those times. What do you do to honor this business? My brother and I now manage what he created and proudly draw inspiration from a man who means a great deal to us. We have been introducing innovative aspects and continue to work on making the San Felice the small gem of an unforgettable island.

Qual è stato il suo esempio di vita? Sicuramente mio zio Pietro Cerrotta. È stato tra gli albergatori più anziani di Capri e la sua esperienza va ricercata in un passato pieno d’incontri e conoscenze con scrittori, artisti e attori dell’epoca. Cosa vi ha insegnato? Fece dell’accoglienza semplice e informale gli elementi essenziali del nostro lavoro. Come lui io e mio fratello Domenico cerchiamo di dedicare agli ospiti simpatia e cordialità. Insieme al San Felice, Pietro Cerrotta seguiva con passione il suo ristorante a Torre Saracena e Weber. Erano i magnifici anni ’50 e personaggi del calibro di Clark Gable, Re Faruk d’Egitto, Tza Tza Gabor, Aristotele Onassis, Maria Callas frequentavano l’isola e il ristorante abitualmente. Cosa altro ricorda? L’ambiente semplice e raffinato fu anche merito di Gloria Magnus, ex ballerina di origini inglesi che, innamorata dell’Isola Azzurra e di zio Pietro, detto ‘Uocchie Argiento’, per il colore blu argento dei suoi occhi, lo accompagnò e divise con lui la notorietà dell’epoca. Cosa fa per rendere merito a questo lavoro? Io e mio fratello oggi guidiamo le attività da lui create, e con orgoglio ci ispiriamo a un uomo che per noi rappresenta molto. Abbiamo iniziato un’escalation d’innovazioni, investiamo continuamente per continuare a far essere il San Felice un piccolo gioiello di un’isola indimenticabile.
